They used to have them every few years but I can't remember the last time there was a Worlds Fair.

Anybody know when and where the last one was and why they stopped having them?

Weren't World's Fairs used to showcase new technology and stuff? If I'm right I can only assume that there's no need for them anymore with the internet debuting everything before it's officially debuted and with everything having it's own little expo.

I was just thinking about "World Fairs" the other day.

They still have them and they are still big deals, they're called Expos now. Unfortunatly it takes many years for them to get to a country where you'll have easy access to them.

Here's a list of some of the world fairs in the past and the ones to come in the future and their locations:

1974 Spokane (United States)
1982 Knoxville (United States)
1984 New Orleans (United States)
1986 Vancouver (Canada)
1988 Brisbane (Australia)
1992 Seville (Spain)
1993 Daejon (South Korea)
1998 Lisbon (Portugal)
2000 Hanover (Germany)
2005 Nagoya (Japan)
2008 Zaragoza (Spain)
2010 Shanghai (China)

Like the Olympics, countries bid for the right to host the world's fair.

Yeah, they have them. We just haven't had one in the U.S. in ages. The biggest shame, though, is that they're not as cool as they used to be. Especially with the structures built for them. Structures made for the World's Fairs include the Eiffel Tower, the Crystal Palace, and that big statue thingy in Chicago. Now, they just make crappy buildings that look like my local aquarium. No one has any sense of style anymore.

Mucha designed a kick ass building for one too.

Thanks Red.:yay:

You're very welcome.

Seems a shame that North America hasn't had a world's fair in 20 years. Someone needs to really push for one on this side of the pond soon.

Meet me in St. Louis, Louis..meet me at the fair. Don't tell me the lights are shining, any place but there..

When I was a kid my parents took me to the 1982 World's Fair in Knoxville. That was definately an experience.
