Why hate FOX?

I wasn't upset the Mandarin didn't have the rings (though I think it could've worked and would've been great). I just wanted the terrorist Mandarin from the teasers to be real. Even without special abilities, the leader of a terrorist organization with a threat to Iron Man would've been sufficient, grounded and dark.

That being said, IM3 was still miles ahead of the FF movies and almost all other Fox Marvel movies (excluding X2, First Class and maybe XMen).

Ok, my question was after seeing how a majority here hated the twist (the poll) I was asking if something similar happened to GG what would the reaction be like? With respect I think also the real GG would not be called Osbourn and be another corporate CEO. He would also not use his iconic glider and punkin bombs, it would be something similar to perhaps Ultimate GG.

Yeah but Norman Osborn IS Green Goblin, it's in the comics and it's pretty much common knowledge. Without having to go to Wikipedia, can you name one of the aliases of comic book Mandarin or his real name? So why get all bent out of shape that Killian is Mandarin? Because they changed his race? Do you also have a problem that MCD was the Kingpin? Elba was Heimdell? Laurence Fishburne was Perry White?

It isn't like Mandarin's birth name(If they were ever to reveal it) is as iconic as Norman Osborn or Lex Luthor or Victor Von Doom.

There rightfully so should be more fan backlash over some other corporate CEO being the GG other than Norman Osborn.

Eh,I don't hate FOX.They've actually made me optimistic about the future of the X film series recently.(which is more than I thought possible)

I wish they'd give up FF to Marvel, though.

Ok I really didn't like IM3 but there is no need to be a D*** about it people. I should have seen this coming, FOX V.S Marvel. Why can't we enjoy ALL Marvel films?

Why should we be satisfied with trash like Elektra and Ghost Rider?

I've actually been quite positive about DoFP and aspects of The Wolverine that weren't called Viper. But in internet land I'm still a big Fox hating meanie, apparently.

Same reason Favreau didn't return for IM3, he's spoken about how they interfered so much with IM2 that he left as he wouldn't have any control over IM3.

Quite a shame as he was responsible for the only decent Iron Man movie.
Fox's draconian attitude towards directors predate their marvel films though. that stigma has ALWAYS been a part of fox as far back as the early 90's. probably more so than any studio...just sayin.

The only reason the Director's Cut of Daredevil wasn't the Theatrical Cut is because Fox executives butchered it to get a 100 minute film and PG-13 rating.
that's another thing i don't like about fox the madatory 90 min running time.

Things have been looking up since Rothman left. I do admit that.

But keep in mind how things have turned out historically. There was a period of EIGHT YEARS between X-Men United and First Class in which every single Fox Marvel adaptation was horrible. And similar problems with their other films (ex. Dragonball, Aliens vs. Predator, etc.).

That's how Fox got the reputation it has. And it isn't going to change overnight. Once the public perceives someone/something a certain way it is very difficult to change their mind.

exactly!.....

yeah, because Marvel did such an awesome job with the Mandarin :whatever:

Let's be honest though, all these peopl who were "up in arms" about the Mandarin...how many of them really cared about his character that much anyway? He was a B rate villain (and that's being generous). I didn't really care that they changed him, because I had no attachment to him to begin with. Don't get me wrong, I didn't think IM3 was great (it was meh to me), but I got really annoyed when all of sudden people started acting like Marvel ruined their favorite character, because I can bet you not many people had the Mandarin in their top ten favorite villains.

Galactus and Dr. Doom were two A-list villains that got shafted. I can definitely understand the anger for them much more.

If Mandarin didn't have so many fans people wouldn't have overreacted so much, simple as that. I heard many even sent deat threats to Shane Black, now, do you even think those are the kind of people that don't care about the character?

Budget? It came down to Rothman thinking giant robots would look too silly on screen and that Galactus would be better as a cloud.

Galactus is still worse, atleast Parallax kinda sorta resembled the comic version, was yellow (piss yellow, but yellow nonetheless) and also floated like the comic version. Galactus on the other hand, shared none of the traits like the comic version.

Look again. :o

I agree for the most part. The change never bothered me either. Always thought most of Iron Mans villains were always lame including the Mandarin. But he was always talked up about being the best villain he had. So I think these past 5 years of extreme Iron Man popularity and Mandarin speculation did increase his popularity at least with diehard film fans. There was a certain expectation that wasn't met.

Still, he was never well known enough in pop culture for it to truly impact the film other then online wom. Ha aint the Joker, Loki, Deadpool or even Bullseye imo.

Really? Because people online need to be diehard fans to overreact to something?:cwink:

And honestly, it wasn't all that big of a reaction, compared to what happens when people mess with popular characters. I don't know if you were reading the hype in 2007/2008 when the first pics of the Joker were released, but THAT is what it looks like when a popular character is messed with.

If you weren't here, let me sum it up: Anarchy. Seriously, the internet blew up. Within a day you had people forming two groups, there was one thread that proclaimed "I have faith in Chris Nolan" and one saying "I don't have faith in Chris Nolan." Brokebat mountain comments raged, people called the character Panda-eyes, said it looked like he was wearing bad lipstick etc. etc. And then when it became apparent he might be wearing makeup, the permawhite debates started, and lasted for months.

I'm not exaggerating with this either, they literally went on for months, right up until the movie came out. You had people saying that Nolan was going to make things too realistic, that the Joker wouldn't even have green hair probably, etc. etc.

It was insane. And the arguments would spill into the other boards all the time. Because the Joker is an A-list villain, and people cared about the character.

With the Mandarin, we got a little blip. Because, let's be honest, nobody really cares about the Mandarin. People were more pissed because Kingsley's performance as the Mandarin looked like it was going to be awesome, and we got shortchanged on that. I definitely felt that way. But I didn't really care that they changed the character.

I agree with everything here.

Iron Man wasn't exactly A-List either, Mandarin was popular to Iron Man fans, obviously didn't have a fanbase on the scale of the Joker or Loki (if he did you can bet the controversy would be bigger) but he certainly had one, he was still central in Iron Man's rogues gallery, which led to so many be outraged by what they did to him in Iron Man 3

Actually, if it was only hardcore fans being angry it wouldn't be noticeable. The backlash is only noticeable because it effected some casual fans and even the GA, because they loved/liked Kingsley's performance.

The only people I know mundanes or geeks who actually liked the Mandarin twist are on the internet. IM3 itself the mundanes seem to like pretty well but think its not great and my geek friends are sharply divided. I'm in the mandarin twist was one of the least of its sins crowd myself.
Maybe if it had been named the adventures of Tony Stark and the extremis Incredibles I wouldn't have so disappointed but I was. My son loved most of the things I hated though and he's as geeky as they come.

Honestly, I enjoyed the Wolverine much much more but I couldn't get any of my kids to try it.
