Why I think Story/Fox are starting off wrong

I don't think it's worth worrying too much about one sentence that Jessica Alba said long before the script was finalized.

We don't know if she was talking about the Surfer (or, as someone else mentioned, it could have been a joke about Franklin) and even if she was talking about the Surfer, the script very well could have changed since then . . . or Jessica may have been speculating that there would be something there even without any direct knowledge of the script.

In any case, there's absolutely no sense in making judgements on such a minor, vague mention.

Very true, but in my opinion, that as part of the storyline wouldn't be a negative.

I think the concern is that this dynamic of empathy and feeling threatned and so on works much better with Ben than it does with Sue. The reason is works so well with ben is because of the dicotamy which exists within Thing. He is both strong, yet vulnerable and insecure. to bring that insecurity to Mf.F really diminishes him, and also doesn't work as well because Mr.F isn't a "monster" on the outside. it's just a mistake all around to make that change when it could just as easily be done with the Thing.

Well it would certainly be my preference to see the Surfer/Alicia scenario play out in the movie just as it did in the comic, and Ben be the one feeling threatened.
Unfortunately they didn't develop Alicia Masters as a character much at all in FF1, so they'll have to develop her sufficiently at the outset in this film to make that dynamic work.

If thats not what they have written in the script then Ben being in the love triangle (i hate that term) won't work.

If they have taken directly from the comic, then ok, Ben needs to be the one along with Alicia. I don't think they've gone that direction, and therefore Sue, I think, is the best one to befriend the SS and show him that not all humans should be devoured. "so to speak" In that scenario, Sue is a much better character to do that than Ben.

I'm sorry, I just don't see this as a "love triangle" scenario, no matter what some may call it. I didn't think it was a "love triangle" in the first movie either. If people thought it was, then I have a very different definition than they do.

I hadn't thought of it that way. I guess in a film like this, it's tough enough balancing characters and giving them meaty roles. They may flip the roles partly just to give Jessica/Sue a better role. As much as I like it better with Ben/Alicia, I can understand why in a film like this - with a lot of characters and limited time, someone decided to let Sue be the one to make the connection.

If they do go that way though, I hope they don't make Reed Jealous. That fits Ben, but not Reed.

I agree, I see Reed being more in the confrontation over science than jealousy. That would mean he picked his head up from his inventions long enough to see it. :yay:

Well Doom's supposed to be sticking his nose into all this, reportedly to regain Sue's favor (that was one rumor anyway) so maybe he's the one who turns jealous over Sue's connection with the Surfer?

How hard is it to understand that Sue and her personality could very easily see the Surfer as a lost soul, and want to help him. He in turn is attracted to this beautiful, sympathetic woman who is far different than what he thought humans were all about. Reed could see his (surfer) as a physical attraction/ along with their competition as scientists.

To me thats not that hard to comprehend happening, nor is it that bad of a storyline. I think it would be cool, and VERY IN CHARACTER for this to happen.

I agree with Triple F on all accounts. Very well said.
