I hired a professional design company to do a website once...a company which had been named by a local magazine as the best in the region...and after thousands of dollars I got a finished product that looked like a 10 year old did it.

I hired a design studio to handle some artwork and such...a company with national clients and a very good track record spanning a few decades...and after tons of time and money...it looks like crap...just RIDICULOUSLY amateur mistakes. I downloaded the same software they use (which I had never used before and I have NO experience in this) and two hours later I had a BETTER looking product.

I hired a photographer to take some promo pictures...and...I don't know how those turned out, because a month later I still haven't seen any. This professional simply hasn't gotten around to making my contact sheet.

Now...I know what you're saying...I shouldn't deal with amateurs...but I'm NOT. I am willing to pay good money for good product. The problem is that even most professionals seem to turn out crap. I'm literally having to fly people across the country to ensure that I will get a good product.

And it isn't limited to artistic stuff...waiters seem to not give a darn whether I starve to death or not...I actually got cussed out by a cashier recently for saying "How are you?" because apparently that was none of my business...the list goes on and on.

I'm not a hard guy to get along with, so I can't be the only person experiencing a complete breakdown in professionalism...

My two cents? It seems to be like that because people in general feel numb about it.

Yeah, I think now a days with a bad economy, people are just so caught up in just having a job for the money, so half the time they aren't doing it with any heart. They're just serving their time for a paycheck, like a waiter or something similar.

I'm kind of in that situation now. I'm in a job that I never expected or wanted to have but its better than being unemployed. That said, I know that there arent any other jobs out there so I work hard to keep the job I have, because my fortunes could turn south at any time. Its never so bad that it cant get worse.

I'm in the same boat. Got a job finally, but it sucks. Am I gonna quit? Hell no. I'm gonna do my job as best I can, but if you want me to be happy about it, well, you can forget that s**t.

See, I don't understand that line of thinking...

I know a girl on Facebook who has two jobs...she wakes up every morning complaining about going to work...posts all day about how miserable she is and how she hates her job...then posts that she's on her way to her other job...and posts all night about how she wants to go home from this crappy job she cant stand. I guarantee if one of her bosses saw her complaints they'd fire her...and then she'd complain constantly about not having a job.

If you have a job when it's becoming the norm to be unemployed...be happy about it...and work hard to keep that job since there are people with college degrees in engineering trying to take that minimum wage job away from you.

Thats what I keep telling the old man. I'm grateful for my job but I dont have to like it. He doesnt get that, but he's the workaholic type.

Again, that is my situation. I have a degree and am working for almost minimum wage. It sucks but its better than being unemployed. Other people have it much worse.

there's a virtual cartel of incompetence.

It's a simple fact of life. Most of the working class hate their jobs and WANT a better one. But they NEED to keep the crappy job they got. Needs outweigh the wants. But that still doesn't mean you have to enjoy the s**ty predicament you're in. Sure, things could be far worse. Forget being unemployed, you could be unemployed in some s**t hole country. Where having a job making pennies a day would be a godsend. But that isn't the issue. It comes down to an age old adage. My Misery is the only Misery that matters to me. Trying to sit there and act as if your life is great because it could always be worse is......insane really. Just cuz you put syrup on s**t don't make it pancakes.

I think its a matter of perspective, really.

Or you could be happy with your life, while always trying to improve it.

Or be miserable, whatever works...

I've been on SHH for just over 6 years and have likely quoted 6 times.....so you're a member of a select few..:)....but when you're right you're right!!

I supervise in the vicinity of 40 employees (and as much as I hate to make this generational) the older folks my age 40+ take pride in what they do...they show up early to get their instructions from me as well as to plan the days events....the Generation Y'ers ***** moan and complain all day long.......

Generation Y'ers in my experience (and I understand that this is just anecdotal and is not proof of anything that can be generalized over the entire Y Population) that Y'ers want to start at the top....entrance level employ is an insult to them.......

I got my first job at 17 and was proud to say I culled fish in the freezing cold until I got a better job 4 years later ...I now manage an international pier in Canada and teach on the side at a local university and I'm no more proud of that than I was on the culling table.......

Instead of hating your job, put a little more time into becoming noticed at your job.....those who complain show it on their faces and in the manner at which they conduct themselves at work.....their road to success will be far longer and more daunting.

People are more concerned about money than anything else. I know that if I had treated people half as badly as they do now in stores, I would have been fired or written up. Now it seems like that piss poor customer service attitude is the new standard.

Before I quit my job , I had a lot of pride in my work. I was a landscaper by trade. I don't feel alive if I'm not earning money with my bare hands. I put in several applications in at Target , but they always tell me that position is full. I went over there once and observed one stockboy texting instead of doing his job. I was so f****** mad.

Anubis has said just about everything I was going to.

OH LOOK AT ALL OF YOU, WITH YOUR FANCY-PANTS JOBS.

I'm still unemployed :csad:...

That's the company I work for, and everyone of our employees loves coming to work everyday. There are still some of us out there! And when we do photo shoots we have every pic taken (no matter the amount) out to our clients within a week

:awesome:

Reminds me of a buddy of mine telling me about some lady at his school cussing him out for holding the door open for her (she had a load of books). Some people are just @#$%ing crazy. Or they take their anger at another situation out on some innocent bystander.

We live in the entitlement generation, folks. Everyone is expected to be handed the world, no matter what they do for it. :(

I say blame the parents for making the new generation lazy. Having been born in 1991 in a safe, comfortable environment, I can say that I have done little work to earn my luxurious rewards. At 19, I see that I have to pay my dues for a long time until any relief of an enjoyable career is in sight. Had I not been so pampered, maybe I'd have the patience and ambition to start from small beginnings....nope, i want a big fat pay check right now.:o
