I'd much rather have this blending of worlds, which has been done on a handful of occasions already, then to immerse either DC or Marvel characters in a Capcom or Midway reality.

I heard the excuse that it was because the characters are on different scales of strength and power, first of all, obviously if they can justify Superman fighting Scorpion, then we could make a case for Silver Surfer, Sentry, or the Hulk to do the same.

Could you imagine having the fun of duking it out using Batman against Moon Knight,or the Hulk versus Doomsday?

It almost seems illogical not to make the game, if they could get this built upon a functional engine, and work beyond the gimmick and deliver great gameplay it would be a best seller and an instant classic.

The short answer is money. First you would need a company to buy the licenses of BOTH Marvel and DC then you would need both companies to agree to a cross over game. Since there hasn't been a cross over comic in a while it is even less likely for a game to happen.

At one point EA had some of the DC characters or at least the movie rights. But Batman Begins was mediocre at best and Superman Returns was a boring game. EA also had Marvel, but dropped the ball there as well.

DC is also about as low as you can get when it comes to video game franchises overall(did ANYONE play that Aquaman game?) so they were probably looking around for someone to bring them up at a low licensing fee. In fact I heard the only reason that Capcom was able to get the Marvel license was because Marvel was doing really bad at the time.

Truth is the companies don't want to do it.Hell they won't let their characters cross over in comics anymore.{JLA/Avengers was the last one.}So I don't count on a Video game being made at least not anytime in the near future.

I just figured with the increasing attention super hero's are getting in Hollywood, that this would become more and more of a profitable venture.

Well, in a way, I can understand why they don't want to do crossover comics because if they want to make it any good, they'll be a winner and a loser, and neither side wants to downplay the power of their own properties while elevating that of an other companies character.

When it comes to a versus video game, they could have a very light, ambiguous story... Because the players skill will decide who wins, and an epic storyline, although beneficial, won't be necessary simply considering the cool factor involved.

When you reach the end of the game with whomever you've chosen, it'll give you a generic ending flattering to the character you've chosen, but it won't be canon, so it would be just for a really good time between you and your friends.

Whereas the companies might lose face when doing a comic crossover, they have everything to gain from making a game.

face it guys, weve wanted one of those for ages. never gna happen

Now now, never say never :o

Comic book characters will keep getting more popular as they keep pumping out new movies, more of the mainstream will recognize more obscure characters, and the idea of it will appeal to many people... Then, the market forces will make it happen! :woot:

I thought it would be simply a money issue, and I thought the lisence was who would brand and produce the game.

Here is a good starting point, few good matchups there.
I can only hope.

Ya, I highly doubt it'll happen. However I would like to see a fighting game, and co-op beat em up game at some point. As much as a fighting game would be fun, I've always liked the idea of an online 4 player (each has their own screen) go thru the lvl deal with Marvel and DC. Something along the line of Thanos and Darkseid teaming up, and you have to go thru legions of thugs and crap. The flying heroes like Supes or Thor can take out aerial enemies, guys like Wolverine or Batman can take out ground troops, or vice versa with maybe ladders on the side of buildings. Basically make it 3d and add scope so the game isn't just going down a predetermined path.

The thought of playing 4 player co-op like that, with a giant alien ship attacking the center of NY or something, and working your way towards it with whatever route you want would be awesome :). Also you could have guys like Green Arrow or Hawkeye snipe and such, basically back eachother up.

There's a lot of bad blood between companies.

This is just JLA vs Avengers, not Marvel vs DC since I don't see any X-Men in this pic. But yeah, I'd love for a game that pins these two comic book behemoths against each other, but due to ego and license difficulties, it might never happen.

Yeah, as long as both Joe and Dan are in charge you'll never see a crossover. At the Chicago Comic Con 2-3 years ago Bendis was talking about a great idea he had for a Daredevil/Batman crossover, but said Dan won't agree to it while Joe is still in charge. Dan even came out to say, all that's keeping this from happening is Joe being in charge.

What the heck happened between these two?

As a Marvel fan, I have grown to dislike Joe's tenure as EIC at Marvel, and I'd like to see him being replaced by someone else. Spider-man's BND storyline is imo terrible.

The last time there was one with those 2 it was a dissapointment, so he probably did us a favour.

That was never the excuse, seeing as Marvel and DC have had several successful cross-over comics in the past. Just not games for some reason.

Because if a Marvel and a DC character are in the same room for too long, their universes... implode.

Bendis is a great Daredevil writer though and his idea sounded really cool. It was 3-4 years ago though, so I can't remember exactly what it was.

Yea daredevil is the only thing Bendis aced.

Because technology hasn't advanced enough for a movie or game to do it justice.

Okay, so assume it did come out. What characters and abilities would you like to see?

I'd like it to be like this.

DC:
Superman
Flash
Batman
Wonderwoman
Supergirl
Green Lantern
Nightwing
Green Arrow
Aquaman
Darkseid
The Joker
Dr. Light

Marvel:
Hulk
Captain America
Ironman
Spidey
Storm
Wolverine
Marvel Girl/warbird
Johnny Storm
Dr. Doom
Venom
Absorbing Man or Rhino

I don't want to exactly make identicals from dc and marvel because in terms of gameplay the game would be repetitive. Quicksilver vs. Flash wouldn't be fun because they're the same guy with different outfits. But playing Flash vs say Spidey might be fun in terms of things they say to each other and how the player responds to attacks.

For secret characters:

DC- Teen Titans: Beast Boy, Cyborg, Raven and Starfire (comic-style)
Marvel- Fantastic Four: Sue, Reed, Ben, She-Hulk

Robin and Johny are already playable. And their team costumes such as Robin or Human Torch in FF outfit are alternate costumes.
