Why So Serious? Needs YOU

But you can only play his characters which makes it a Batman RPG...
You can only play Gotham City residents. Saying it is a Batman RPG is onesided. If you say that, you can say its a Nightwing RPG, or a Huntress RPG. Anyone in Gotham is available. Plus a few heroes we cheated in and guest stars.

But you can only play his characters which makes it a Batman RPG...

Look. Either sign up or quit complaining. It was approved, nothing you can do about it. You should have commented while it was in the approval process.

Byrd, remember your lent promise. I still got a few days dammit! :cmad:

I too can air my opinion whenever I want. I wasn't complaining...I was asking. Apparently there isn't a difference around here. :whatever:

Sorry, but it seems like you're nit-picking something that could have been done when the RPG was up for approval in late November.

It would perhaps feel a lot less like a "Batman" RPG, if it wasn't basically taking off from Batman Begins. I am not in that RPG, nor do I know much of what is going on...but I recall Cyrusbales making a comment as an RPer in that RPG not liking how people are basically "guessing what is going to happen in TDK", thus like writing a sequel to where the RPG takes roots from.

Perhaps anything from Batman Begins (like establishment, bearing no roots to it at all) should be removed to make it feel less like a "Batman" RPG and what it should be: a Gotham City Noir RPG.

Personally, I always liked the idea of the WSS RPG. I wish I had known about it sooner so I could play as a character I would've kept for a long time. I think there should be more RPGs like this one. (I consider it a "mini-RPG", seeing as how players are limited to only Batman characters - with the exception of one-month guest stars).

I personally agree with Trusty. The Begins characters being added are what I think makes it seem less Gotham and more Batman. I would totally be interested in a straight out Noir Gotham RPG like Batman Halloween.

I also think this Gotham RPG should be an expection to the rules on "one universe character" RPG's. I can understand the Gotham one since it has a certain mood and style that sets it apart from the other DC RPG's, but anymore I think would be overkill.

I never intended for it to become a 'Batman Begins' RPG, even though it gradually became that, in some ways. I always looked towards Gotham Central as a much stronger inspiration for what I wanted it to be, but at the same time, I knew no one would want to just play characters like Batman and The Joker as background people. I guess that's where I messed up, in the concept... I didn't anticipate that so many would want those types of characters, even though I should have seen it coming.

However, I will say that it took me a long time to even consider guest stars, whether they be one or several. Bringing them in took away from the point I was trying to emphasize. This is Gotham, not Gotham and Metropolis or Gotham and Star City.

Yea, I could tell that the point was to have a Noir, GCPD basically RPG emphasized on Gotham Central, but not everyone has read that, or at least, not enough know of some of the lesser known characters who appear in it.

So that really narrowed down the list, to where it came down to people basically picking up Bat Rogues.

Well the reason I'm not joining is because even when some of us came up with some ideas so we could help out and play, every one of them was shot down by the people playing in the RPG (except for Byrd agreeing with the custom character idea) and we were told "There's so many more characters to pick from!" and that irks me. If you want more players, than at least consider some ideas or help us pick a character by giving us a list of unplayed characters (like OU). I don't really know any other characters other than ones already played, and i'm not the only one either, and that's why this RPG is dying IMO. Most of us are not joining up because we're not obsessed with everything Batman/Gotham. Although that sounds harsh, I'm not taking any stabs at anyone, but that's how I feel, so I mean no offense to anyone who loves the character and the city he inhabits.

While I don't agree with Blacklight 100%, I do think a list of untouched characters like OU does would help you guys to see who is available.

I think it depends. With DC: New Age, I just provided a short list of characters that were already established, but no longer played.

I agree. Unless you know everything about Gotham Central, which most don't (they may have an idea but not for sure), your not going to know who the smaller roles are.

Most people don't know the smaller roles in comics, period. That's why lists like in OU could be so helpful.

Honestly, the smaller characters are less likely to play. I think a lot of people will only play a character if they know them or have an idea about their motives, actions, personality, etc.

That needs to be changed, in my opinion. Every now and then, someone takes a C-Lister and makes them a central part of the RPG. That should happen more often - but no one wants to take that leap.

There's essentially a list of unused characters. We've got a list detailing the structure of the GCPD, and the crime families.

Yea, only issue is, as we have said over and over again, apparently not many people know any characters in Gotham Central. Do you really want someone to play a character they have NO idea about? If it were an RPG like UDC, where you basically make the character what you want them to be, that is different.

For example, I have read the newest version of Brother Blood's appearances, and Despero's as well...but I didn't really know the characters. But in an RPG like UDC, you don't have to necessarily. Reason being is because you change things about them but keep the main thing that makes them who they are.

Whereas with WSS, all those cops and families you guys list out? If you haven't read Gotham Central, you are screwed: wiki can't really help you. The player cannot change things about those characters.

EDIT: I realize some Bat Rogues have been slightly skewed, but that is a lot harder when you are talking about a cop or mob boss. What can you really change about them? You have to know the characters.
