Please excuse my ignorance, I'm not really a big DD or Elektra fan but I just saw the movie and as far as action flicks go, it wasn't too bad.

This wasn't the same Elektra I saw from the "Man without fear" mini and the deviation was way off but I still enjoyed it as a standalone movie.

Garner was not bad at all. Can someone explain the hate?

I liked the Elektra movie but I never read an Elektra comic so I had no expectations for what the character was supposed to be.

As an adaptation, it was pretty bad, but as an action movie on its own, I enjoyed it as well.

-Really annoying kid.

-Stick was Blind but he might as well not have been. It's like if Batman Begins had Gordon say he was blind and not change anything else in the script.

-Ridiculous villains who turn into green smoke when dying for some reason. There's a point when a guy who can turn a couple of snake tattoos on his back into a thousand flying serpents with glowing heads makes me take a step back and ask "WTF am I watching!?" DesPite Matt Murdoc's "power" Daredevil was at least grounded in a slightly eccentric reality. This was Dr. Strange/Thor/Ghost Rider territory.

-The bangs. It's bad enough Jen Garner looks as much like Elektra as Carrot Top looks like Superman (nothing black hair dye and a tan couldn't fix) but no variation of her signature bandana/doorag didn't help at all. Later on, Brat-girl tries to emulate her new heroine by matching her do. Makes about as much sense as Robin emulating Batman by getting a mohawk.

-It's really difficult finding a market for a female superhero movie. EsPecially a loner like "E". They come across as difficult for either male or female audiences to relate to. So godsPeed, Wonder Woman.

My problem is that they tried to turn Elektra into a hero, when really, she's never been that. Even in the comics, she always has her own reasons for doing "heroic" things, and half the time is a straight forward villain who just happens to have Daredevil in love with her.

Well the movie wasn't that great, but it wasn't as horrid as people make it out to be. I'm not much of a fan of Elektra and didn't think she deserved a solo to begin with.

Well I do dig the ink and paint Elektra-and this movie blew. Joker and Ratcrawler had it right.
This was more about Garner than Elektra...

When you have these dark characters like Elektra and Ghost Ridder you have the obligation to set up a dark theme for the film...Garner has moves, but the costume wasn't even close-which would have went a long way. Dr. Kovach was really more of the Back ground as was Terrance Stamp...who gets a pass, cuz he is Zod and Stik...still

I liked Ghost Ridder as a movie better, but I like Elektra as a character better. Frank Miller should have adapted this movie from his own work on the series from the '80's instead of bastarizing the Spirit.

The problem was the story. Elektra is not a hero, the film should have been dark, and brooding. The story should have focused on her being an assassin for hire.

The first 5 minutes are really good, the rest of the film should have been just like that.

Can someone explain the hate?

Avi Arad and Kevin Feige said in an Empire interview that Elektra was their biggest mistake so far (this was in 2006 when Arad was CEO and Feige was his deputy).

The people who actully made the movie think its a disaster.

THe movie couldn't figure out what direction it wanted to go. It was actually a pretty good movie for about 10 minutes, & then it spiraled downward from there.

Simple. It wasn't Elektra. Elektra is one of the fiercest killers in the Marvel Universe. She would have killed Mark Miller and Abby like that. The fact that Abby survived also let her go ahead and drag down the rest of the film. Apart from that, most of the villains appeared for five seconds and then died. Any character that was from the comics like Stick or Typhoid Mary barely resembled the character they were supposed to be. In terms of acting, Jennifer Gardner spend most of the film staring at people blankly, which I assume are the moments she's trying to display some emotion. She wasn't even a good choice for Elektra. She was fine in Daredevil because Elektra was still starting out, but as a trained killer she doesn't look threatening at all.

Overall, it's also a pointless movie. It's not exciting or compelling on it's own and it doesn't live up to the comic on which it's based on.

EDIT: I don't know why I keep getting double posts like this. >_>

Christ, in my film study class, someone picked this film for their final project to analyze. I felt embaressed watching this frankly.

I second that.

I love Chris and Blinky, but I wasnt huge on their Elektra. I do like is Catwoman however.

It was just mediocre to me. I felt no connection to the characters and it seemed to just be running through the motions. Out of all the comic book movies to be released since Blade, this felt the most like a waste of time and money to me. I can at least laugh at bad movies. This was just...there.

Well, this Elektra certainly has a much better ass than Jennifer Garner...:yay:

If this was done by amateurs then it's actually really good. One of the best fan films I've seen. If these are actually up and coming actors and actresses then...keeeep practiciiiing.>_<

I did like the story and filmography, though, and there's an excellent martial artist in there. Whoever's doing the stunts (clearly they only have one person).

It was okay, but nothing too great.

I didn't like the addition of a "cute kid" to bring out the maternal side of Elektra. And while they didn't push it too strongly, the "sexual tension" between Elektra and the kid's dad (ER/Spartacus guy) didn't seem to exist and shouldn't have been forcefully added to the characters/script in the first place.

There was maybe a touch too much "mystical" stuff given Daredevil had been pretty grounded in reality, although obviously they needed to include at least some mystical magic to bring Elektra back from the dead. The "baddies" were okay, but each of them seemed pretty cool by themselves and I would have been happy just to have Typhoid Mary (for example) with more screen-time devoted to building the characters of the baddies instead of just introducing them, showing their powers and then killing them off.

The fight scenes also seemed to have been edited a little roughly, particularly the final fight scenes in Elektra's mansion. I know there was some stuff deleted, but the fact she pulls a giant sai out of nowhere just annoyed me (in deleted scenes I think she was shown burying the sais in that area years earlier, but they cut that all out so it just looks like she pulled the sai out of her azz).

Cheers.

the deluxe 2-disc dvd is worth it.. could have been better, but I didn't look at it as a disaster.. too bad jennifer's celeb status couldn't push it further..
i'd still want to see the cameo from "Matt"..
