Ok so Eden games is doing the new AITD game, Near Death Investigation. It's due out between march 2007-march 2008, so you have plenty of time to learn up on what is looking like the most underrated next gen title so far.
The only worrying point is that the publisher, atari, has been going through some rough times. But assuming it makes it to shelves, it will be worth it, and here's why.
The graphics are fantastic, cgi like. It basically seems like the graphical engine of fight night 3 transported into a horror setting, thick with atmosphere.
The weapons system looks to be fairly innovative. You use the analogue to swing melee weapons such as chairs and led pipes. The physics of these weapons seem unparalled. Things such as chairs can be used as is, or broken off into smaller weapons, or set on fire.
That brings us to the game's first and formoest weapon against the supernatural spooks on offer....fire. It can be used in almost any situation. If you have some gasoline, you can set traps by making a trail and setting it on fire. Or you can trap the monsters in say a wooden structure, and the fire will spread even faster. This will also be useful for weapons like motolov cocktails and torches. But it can also back fire as fire is impossible to control, and you may need to keep a fire extinguisher with you.
Cars. It apparently has all the interactivity of the cars in say test drive unlimited. You can lock the doors, roll up the windows and turn on the lights to ward off nasties. You can also wire the car to get away if the last occupant unthoughtfully didn't leave keys in it.
A strong, tight narrative that looks to combine this with unparalled interactivity and atmosphere..
If you're still not excited, quit gaming
But seriously, this is up there with Bioshock, Crackdown and Possession on my want now list.
