Lords of the Fallen on mobiles is 'brand new,' not a port
(12 hours ago)

The Lords of the Fallen game coming to iOS and Android isn't a port of this year's console and PC game. In a statement provided to Joystiq, CI Games CEO Marek Tyminski confirmed the mobile game is instead a "brand new" experience. Tyminski also said the Lords of the Fallen sequel announced earlier this week is in development for PS4, Xbox One and PC.

Tyminski's statement in full reads:
"I can confirm that the statements made recently to the local Polish media at a press conference earlier this week in Warsaw, and mentioned on Facebook by Executive Producer Tomasz Gop, are true: a Lords of the Fallen sequel is currently in development for PC, PS4 and Xbox One. The reaction from fans to the news has been tremendous so far, and we're eager to take on the challenge of improving upon the solid experience that has been created with Lords of The Fallen.

"I'd also like to offer some new information - we're currently working on a mobile game that takes place in the Lords of the Fallen universe, which we're aiming to launch on iOS and Android in 2015. It will not be a straight port of the game though, but rather a brand new Lords of the Fallen experience. More details on that are still to come."

The ‘Ancient Labyrinth’ downloadable content for Lords of the Fallen first announced in November will launch next Tuesday, March 3 (March 4 on PlayStation 4 in Europe), CI Games announced.
Find a summary of the content below, via CI Games:
Ancient Labyrinth incorporates an all-new storyline set in a long-forgotten library that exists somewhere between the human and demonic realms. With the DLC, players can explore the uncharted wilds of the Labyrinth, discover hidden secrets, and fight never-before-seen enemies with new weapons, shields, and armor, all in the name of destroying the evil that has shattered civilization. Players can expect the same challenging gameplay as fan-favorite Lords of the Fallen, but with more rewards for playing through multiple times and exploring every dark corner of the Ancient Labyrinth.

Lords of the Fallen 2 will be developed by the New York City-based Defiant Studios, publisher CI Games announced.

Defiant Studios was established in 2016 by David Grijns, the former studio head and game director of Just Cause 3 developer Avalanche Studios New York, and is composed of “veteran staff with proven track records in developing top-selling AAA games.”

CI Games describes its partnership with Defiant Studios as an “important step”

in delivering a high quality second entry in its 2014-launched action RPG series, as well as a key component in its strategy to collaborate with “strong external teams to deliver quality gaming experiences with the player in mind.” The first Lords of the Fallen was developed by Deck13 Interactive and sold over two million units.

Find comments from both parties below.
Marek Tymi?ski, CI Games Chief Executive Officer
“We talked to a number of globally respected studios that had shown a strong interest in making the next Lords of the Fallen, and received several solid pitches. We finally decided to move forward with Defiant because we were impressed with their game concept, production expertise, and the pedigree of their developers. Defiant is made up of some the industry’s most talented creators, and we are thrilled to have them create the sequel to Lords of the Fallen. We look forward to bringing their next big game to the global market on consoles and PC.
“Signing the next Lords of the Fallen with Defiant is a very important step for CI Games as a publisher. We look forward to continue teaming up with third-party developers to help bring their projects to global audiences, and are invested in building long term relationships. For the past several months we have been in discussions with many talented studios from around the world, and will soon have more to share about the outcomes of those discussions. This marks the beginning for CI Games in terms of the games portfolio we have been building for the coming years.”

David Grijns, Founder and Managing Director of Defiant Studios
“We have been talking with CI Games for several months now, and went through a detailed process of getting to know one another’s expectations and motivations in regards to Lords of the Fallen 2. We are happy that we can commit our studio to developing a great game in a well-established franchise. Our team has been excited about the chance to make the next Lords of the Fallen from the moment we started to work on our pitch for CI. We are particularly thrilled about the creative freedom that CI Games is willing to offer.”

Sorry to bump a dead thread but I figured it was better than starting a new one. I had never heard of this game until a couple weeks ago when I saw it on PSNow. Just beat it today. It’s frustrating as hell at times but once you get the hang of it, it’s pretty fun. Graphics are crazy good if you’re a fan of Diablo-style monsters and armor.

I will say though that this game has some of the worst NPCs of any game I’ve played. After playing Dragon Age and Fallout and games where NPCs feel like fully formed, compelling characters, the A-holes throughout Lords of the Fallen are pretty grating. When I was faced with the choice of either killing that huge demon or letting it live (in about the last third of the game), I killed it just to spite Yetka because she was so useless to me throughout the game. Anyway though, one good thing about how challenging the bosses are in this game is that when you finally take one of them out, it feels like a real accomplishment. Now to go attempt Dark Souls 3 again (and probably die another 30 times at the hands of the FIRST boss)...

Oh right...this was a thing. I wonder if the sequel will still happen.

I’m not sure. I feel like, after playing through the first one, that the game was rushed. Certain aspects of it just felt like they needed more background. Like, at the end of the game (SPOILER ALERT), it’s not even really clear what exactly happened to Artenas that turned him into a 15-foot ball of limbs. I thought we’d get some sort of dialogue and transformation scene but nope. I feel like they ran out of time and just skipped some stuff. And the intro scene is just totally out of left field and seems to have almost no connection to the game other than Harkyn’s presence.

A little late on this but apparently the sequel to this game is still happening and it’s due out in 2023. Next-gen (or is it current-gen now?) systems only, which I guess isn’t much of a surprise.

Weirdly, I think I’m one of the (very) few that prefers this to the Dark Souls games, and not just because it’s easier. While LOTF doesn’t hold a candle to Elden Ring, after beating ER I went back and attempted DS3 again. I got farther in DS3 than I had before (I think ER really helps you understand the mechanics of these types of games) but DS3 is such a gloomy, ugly game that I lost interest after a while. While I’ll admit the story in LOTF is crap, I do really like the design of the creatures and world they created, and the XP multiplier is a really cool mechanic that I wish FromSoftware would adopt for their games.

Anyway, I hope this sequel happens because I think there is a lot of opportunity here to improve upon the first game with some better writing and fighting mechanics. I’m sure it won’t be as good as something like Elden Ring but I think there’s a lot of potential here.

I didnt get far into the game, but what I played I enjoyed more than the Souls games. Glad to see it's getting a sequel.

It’s worth finishing, IMO. It feels really condensed compared to something like Elden Ring but the boss battles are cool and the Rhogar world looks awesome. The characters all kinda suck but whatever.

I'll give it another try. I've just got to delete something on my PS5 so I can install this game.

I think I spend more time installing and deleting games than playing games.

It does take a long ass time lol. And when there’s an update? Ugh.

First look at the sequel. Loving the design and I’m glad that you’re playing as a new, customizable protagonist. Not crazy about Eddie from Stranger Things doing the narration; hopefully that’s not part of the actual game. And while some old school Danzig is always welcome, the last time a fantasy game emphasized heavy metal in a trailer, we got that abysmal Dark Alliance game. Graphics look good but we’ll have to see if the actual gameplay is comparable to the cut scenes.

Lords of the Fallen is back, and this time it begins with ‘The’

Never played the first game. But I'm intrigued by this next one. However I'm really not into the whole Soulsborn type difficulty crap. I don't expect their gonna be changing that up.

Well, the first one was a bit easier than most Souls games. To be clear, it’s still a hard game but not as brutal as Dark Souls and such. This one is made by a different studio and seems more ambitious than the first one though so the difficulty will probably be cranked up to 11.

Definitely on board with fully supported co-op, start to finish. No more of this summoning, co-op but not really business haha

New trailer for the sequel (THE Lords of the Fallen). Looks like a vast improvement over the original, which I also liked, despite its many flaws.

I’l be all over this, looks amazing!

Indeed. It looks like they really listened to the criticisms that Soulsbourne fans had about the first game and crafted something truly epic. One thing I hope they kept for this sequel was the XP multiplier; that’s one mechanic that FromSoft should really consider incorporating into their games because it encourages players to gamble a bit and keep playing rather than constantly running back to bonfires/sites of grace/lamps to level up.

So is this like Souls-lite?

As much as I liked Elden Ring, the difficulty got tiresome and wanted a middle ground between regular difficulty and something challenging.
