Shouldnt we be comparing Avengers to something like Spider-man 4 or even Iron Man 2???

this is waaaay more anticipated then wolverine was, millions of people would saee this and will see this even if it tanks

am i the only one who thinks that avengers has the potential to break all records including titanic and tdk?

I Feel the same way, even if this is poorly put together (which i dont think it will be), it's gonna have the Star Wars effect, it's gonna make millions no matter what, i have great faith that this is going to be just as perfectly put together as Iron Man was, this has the potential to not only break ALL Marvel movie records, as well as comic book movies period, but i bet this stands a good chance to break major movie records, like you said, tdk or titanic

i mean.. Iron Man made SOO much money and gained a non-comicbook fan base, im almost positive that Captain america and thor will do the same. Hulk did good but i think because its crappy predecessor it was a setback. but i mean this is the AVENGERS!! Marvel's best heroes teaming together as one, and as long as they keep the heroes cast the same (ie. iM=downey jr, hulk= nortan, thor= Hemsworth, etc..) they cant go wrong

Agreed, this is bound for greatness

It should. If Favreau does indeed direct this pic and everything comes together, it should be fun. Wolverine was an awful disappointment.

I don't think anyone needs to worry about Cap, Thor is the one to be worried about.

Is Avengers going to be more 616 or Ultimate??? Seems like the latter since Samuel L Jackson is Ult Fury

we all know ironman2's gonna do phenomenally well, if thor and cap follow suit, the hype for the avengers will be off the hook

I know it's way too early to be predicting box office for a film 3 years away but if I had to throw some numbers out there... I'd go...

IM2: 380 Domestic 600 plus WW
Thor: 120 domestic 300 WW
Captain America: 200 domestic 380 WW
Avengers: 480 domestic, 1 billion WW.

Do you think that the Avengers will do better than Wolverine has done?

Assuming nothing unforseen happens in the next few years on a global scale, like a plague wiping out half the world's population, or that it suddenly becomes trendy to stay away from theaters on Friday and Saturday in favor of staying home alone and reading...you can pretty much count on it.

Could the mods close threads that are old so that people can't randomly go back and revive them? That would prevent folks like UL from senselessly disrupting the flow of the boards by bringing old crap bobbing to the surface.

The Avengers will do better at the Box Office, but I think The Wolverine will be the better movie by far. Avengers will be a pretty good smash em up, but The Wolverine will be a great character study, it has a good chance of being anyway, given it is based on a specific text that is already acclaimed.
The Avengers will have no such time to explore the characters, it will be a beat em up game with some good lines from Whedon as they argue and stuff, but no deeper than that.

eh, the Avengers board is pretty slow at the moment anyway, and it's still a relevant question if you are intersted in projecting about such trivia. There's no harm in resurecting it.

Actually, there is.
The problems with necroposting are that you're resurrecting discussions with posters who are, by and large, no longer with us; you're resurrecting discussions and speculation based on information that was available years ago, when people didn't have access to current news ("hey, who do you think will play Captain America?" "Aaron Eckhart, without a doubt. And it'll be set in modern times, 2008, instead of WWII"); and you're pushing relevant, active threads down a peg --- possibly off the page.

Simple rule of etiquette: if you're digging through old threads and you find some interesting topics, but the thread is more than a year old, start a new one. With relevant, *current* discussion with relevant, *current* forum members.

Well, there were people responding, and there are new posters all the time, that 'pushing another thread off the page' argument does not hold much weight imo, if it was at the bottom of the page anyway, who is to say it would have necesarily got more posts given that it had been untouched for a while?
It's not a big deal. Depends on what thread is resurected and how busy the boards are, these boards usually only have a couple of active threads at a time, so there is plenty of room for other threads to pop up. He only resurected *one* thread in here, it would be different if he had resurected a few.
I know he has done it on other boards, but it's the same deal, he only does one a board, what is the point of the search button if you can't ressurect a thread that you are interested in that was posted before your time as a poster?
