One of the most iconic images in Batman's comic lore. I am sure Nolan has been inspired by alot and used alot of comic material. There is also a reason why he chose Bane as a villain as well and this plot-line will do wonders.

We see in the trailer that Bruce Wayne is walking in a cane...It can take years, maybe 8 for it to heal back to an extent

Now, based off the things we have in front of us right now...
Does Nolan have Bane break Batman's back?

I don't think so.

I just think that Bane severely beats him.

No. Recovering from a broken back with the pace Nolan keeps in these films wouldn't be feasible.

I'd be sorely disappointed if Bane didn't give him some catastrophic injury. Bane is more than just a beast, he's a beast who can beat up Batman

His spinal cord won't be severed, if that's what you mean. He might fracture a few vertebrae, along with a bunch of other injuries Bane gives him before putting him down the well.

Bane will probably beat Bats to a bloody pulp, leaving him severely bruised and in a way broken. i doubt Batman's back will be broken, but perhaps his leg will which explains the cane. in addition to leaving him emotionally broken.

then Batman will come back with a vengeance and take down Bane once and for all :word:

Yeah, Bruce may suffer a small fracture to his back to serve as a homage to Knightfall.

Im doubtful that his back will be completly broken per teh realism.

Ya there ya go, I said it.

One thing is for certain IMO... Bane is 'breaking' Batman in the physical approach, not just the mental. How severe he's going to do so and how he could realistically recover from it is the question.

Agreed!

I doubt he'll break his back per se as that would take YEARS to come back from....and even then a full recovery is a bit unrealistic in real life. As this all takes place 8 years in the future, I suspect he'll just leave Batman seriously beaten and broken, but with injuries that will only take months instead of years to recover from. Hence the cane in the trailer which is a far cry from the wheelchair he'd be in after an injury like the one in the comics.

He will break him,
but likely not his back.
Though, we shall see how this manifests.

Of course!

Bane will break the Bat in some fashion. Keep in mind though, Bosef stated that his back will, indeed, be the target. We shall see on July 20th.

He's going to break a couple ribs, an arm, a leg, but not the back. In fact, I'd prefer Batman be broken in more than one place.

It would be obvious to think his back will be the target,
and of course it's fitting, something I would be thrilled to see on the big screen.. but with how things are appearing so far I can't commit to that idea - and am veering away from it for the time being in my consideration of what fate will befall Bruce at the hands of Bane.

He is definitely going to get mangled on a few different levels, though, that much I am certain of.
I can feel the sense of Batman's trepidation when approached by Bane in the footage we've seen thus far, their confrontations are going to keep us on the edge of our seats for sure... in consideration, the whole dynamic of their rivalry brings so much more to the confrontation/action sequences expected compared to what we've seen in the previous films. Bane's attack on Bruce will be incredibly intense regardless of how he physically breaks him.

Back is a possibility. Bruce doesn't just loolike a guy that got his ass kicked. His chin seems to be tucked in an aweful lot and pretty immobile as he is looking at Bane with his eyes and not turning his head towards him.

I think he's going to beat the piss out of Bruce, and the scars will be both physical and emotional; based on the trailer, it seems like this be a brief chronology of the events:

1. Wayne throws Harvey Dent memorial around the fall (it is a masquerade ball; and there are officials saying that Gordon will be replaced in the Spring)
2. Wayne gets mollywhopped by Bane at party (were those people being THROWN from the top of Wayne's huge staircase?)
3. It take Wayne some months to recover (we know it's football season when Bane really starts wreaking havoc)
4. Batman comes BACK to end what Bane started in the winter (and possibly visits the lazarous (sp) pit to recouperate)

just my take on the trailer . . .

also, given the size of Bane in this movie it's not realistically possible to pick a grown man up and snap his back like he did in the comics . . . I am actually about the same size as Tom Hardy (maybe not as burly) and I wouldn't be able to do that to a grown man . . .

Well to paraphrase Nolan, these films are about extroardinary characters measured in a setting perhaps not so extroardinary or different of a world from our own. I expect Bane to accomplish some feats you wouldn't think possible in real life, but I suppose there is a boundary there. We'll have to see. Hardy at least "mimiced" the back breaking with that PA guy in that photo that leaked :awesome: But again, that was probably just a massive fanboy request and unrelated to anything we'll see on film.

for sure this will be gritty as I never saw a single drop of blood in TDK, but this time in the trailer Bruce has a bloody nose and mouth

No.

But he will eat Alfred while forcing Bruce to watch

Batman will break Bane's back.

I think he will be severely beaten, but not a literal broken back. I think there is a little more to what the tagline of the poster says, and how he becomes "broken".
