i have a feeling once the city is saved and bane is defeated - batmman will hang up the cape and cowl.

in the last pic, we say of bale he had a streak of grey in his hair.

it would be the perfect and realistic way to end the series.

TDK said Bruce will always need to be Batman.

I don't want that to change because that's who Batman is.

"Tell us about yourself, Bruce."
"I did a 2-year stint some years back as a masked crimefighter for the city of Gotham. Good times."

Who do you care about more? Bruce or Batman? One is actually a human being who is suffering. One is the cause of the suffering.

If you believe Batman Begins, Batman is Bruce's real face, Bruce is just his mask.

Then why was Rachel waiting for the "real Bruce" to come back some day?

The real Bruce Wayne died when his parents were murdered. He hasn't been back since. He's been suffering for so long Batman's become his outlet for his aggression and ideology. But he hasn't lived a life.

No. It's Batman. He's like Stan Lee. Retiring isn't an option.

She didn't. She said MAYBE some day when Gotham no longer needs Batman she might see the man she fell in love with again. By TDK, she realized that is never going to happen because Bruce is always going to need Batman.

So if you think Bruce Wayne is dead then why are you asking me who do I care for more if Bruce Wayne doesn't exist any more?

He's stopped tons of villains..

He was 30 in BB, 22 or 23 when he left to train as batman.

TDK was 6 months to a year after BB.

SO 31.

If TDKR happens a year after TDK. He's 32..It probably spans over 5 years, I doubt it'd be much longer, which makes me wonder if the gray is more of a disguise.

Maybe "dead" was too much of an analogy. He still exists. He's just been on the back-burner for years.

My point was... Bruce Wayne is a person and every person deserves to be happy. And Bruce isn't happy as Batman. He isn't happy as the masquerading rich Wayne. He has to be fulfilled in his Batman job and move on to another life. That's his only way to happiness.

He should retire. And he should find the right time to do it.

If you think Bruce Wayne should have a happy ending, you grossly misunderstand his character and the mission. Yes Bruce is a real person, but Bruce is Batman. They are one in the same and Bruce would rather be stopping villains like Bane, Joker, Falcone than running Wayne Enterprises.

That's who Batman is. But it has not stopped him from having several loving relationships in the comics. It has not stopped him from taking troubled young boys into his home and loving them like they were his own sons.

Nolan's Batman is still taking his baby steps. You're talking about making him retire just because his first year as Batman has been rough?

We'd have no superheros left if they all retired because they were not happy lol :oldrazz: I cannot imagine Batman really retiring because he's miserable. He might want to, and even seriously contemplate it (Mask of the Phantasm, BTAS episode 'I am the Night' and TDK for example touched on it), but he'd never do it.

I've got some bad news, Joker. Comics don't end. They go on forever. And Nolan's films aren't the comics. They are interpretations of them. Nolan's said he's concluding the series.

I want Bruce to be happy but I also want him to make a dent in Gotham and that Gotham can finally heal after years of self-abuse.

Again, it is against the character of Bruce Wayne for him to just "live happily ever after".

That just means he's concluding his (Nolan's) involvement in telling Batman's story, not that Batman's story is finished when he is.

If Batman retires/dies, I'll erase this franchise from my memory as I did Burton and Schumacher's

He didn't just say this will be the end of his involvement in the series, he said specifically that this will be the conclusion of the story. As in his interpretation of Batman, the "Beginsverse" he created, will come to an end after this film. No one is picking it up after, WB even announced there would be a reboot.

Ummm no. For his vision of Batman, yes, Batmans story will be finished. If you think TDKR will be ending with something that's similar to Batman Begins, where "Batman" is alive, well and ready to take on more villains then you're crazy. They're not leaving it open for sequels..

Yeah, you're being presumptuous as ****.

And you're probably wrong too.

So? That doesn't stop them from having Batman throw in the towel and quit for a long hiatus because he wants to be happy while someone else fills in as Batman.

But they've never done that. Why? It goes against the character of Batman.

And Nolan's films aren't the comics. They are interpretations of them.

So are the Superman, Spider-Man, X-Men, Iron Man movies etc. Do you see them having their heroes retire just so they can be happy?

Of all the comic book heroes, Batman is one of the least likely to ever do that.

Nolan's said he's concluding the series.

That translates to you as Batman retiring? What a baffling unfounded assumption.

I want Bruce to be happy but I also want him to make a dent in Gotham and that Gotham can finally heal after years of self-abuse.

Best of luck with that. I don't want to see a Batman who hangs up the cape or a Gotham City that is ever healed completely of crime.

I'll quote this again, because it hits the nail on the head.

When you have a film called The Dark Knight Rises, it implies Batman will rise from a rock bottom situation and come out on top. Ending the film with Batman retiring doesn't make any thematic sense. You end with Batman winning.
