As much as I love Natalie Portman I agree to a degree, I don't see her doing this role because of the fact that she mostly does artsy films. She doesn't come across as the action girl(even though she was great in the Specialist). As for Gerard Butler it's funny someone mentioned for the role of Kayla its important to not use the latest hotty (no this is not going to turn gay) but in a sense he is one of the hottest attractions I feel right now. With 300 and Beuwolf his is very recognizable right now. The height thing does bother me a bit, though only because he is suppose to be this taller menacing version of Wolverine and he and Hugh are the same height. I'd still be willing to see him play it height issue apart(they'll just though some stacks on his shoes), but if he say "I am Sabertooth" or "Victor Creed" I might think ok another Vin Deisle. However since I read comics I will in the end see this movie no matter.

What's wrong with that idea? We know from X2 that Wolverine volunteers for the procedure (Stryker says so) and if he does so in order to hunt and fight Sabretooth for killing 'Kayla Silverfox' (two characters merged for the movie), then his motivations are presented clearly. Why otherwise would someone subject themselves to the terrible violation and indescribable pain of an adamantium implantation unless they were driven by blind rage and a thirst for revenge?

Devin from Chud.com, who posted the original rumor about Butler, said this in answer to a "Butler denies he in Wolverine" post on the message board:

Butler denies what? That question he's asked is nonsense - no one said he'd be in it. My source told me they WANT him. They've reached out to his agent. His agent doesn't tell him everything that comes his way, he just shows him the best offers and the ones that work in his schedule.

Devin does make a good point.Butler may not have heard about the Wolverine offer yet from his agent. Who knows? Nowadays things like this tend to leak to the press before they actually do to the people in question.

It's weird though that they (seemingly) haven't got their main leads signed up when filming is only weeks away.

They'll prob officially release a press release about production and the cast to Variety (or some publication of similar importance) soon. I recall David Benioff saying (in an interview) they'd announce casting in "a couple weeks" so hopefully he's right

Just don't see why they'd have to mix Kayla into the story, further more Logan was kidnapped by agents Weapon X in the comics, he did not volunteer.
