Superman Returns Will the box office numbers be better then X MEN 3?

Will Superman Returns be bigger then X-Men 3 at the box office?

  • I think so.

  • I don't think so.

  • I think the totals will be about the same.

  • No clue (at all).

Well we know what a monster X3 has become at the box office this weekend. So which do you feel will make more now?

who cares the better question is: After the 28 % drop from Friday to Saturday does Xmen have what it takes to carry itself for another good weekend?

Wow. Just wow. WHO CARES WHO MAKES MORE??? I don't get it. We all should be hoping for big success for both films.

Yeah but remember it was a 28% drop from freakishly good Star Wars like numbers on Friday.

Umm..sorry? I never said X3 owns though. Even though I liked X3, I'm hoping Superman does better too.

NOt you my friend? i do apologize that wasnt directed at you

If your honestly just curious about the whole number and record aspect of it Calendar Man...I apologize. But I am sick of the whole pointless SR vs. X3.

Yeah I'm not asking for people to argue about the quality of the films, just curious as to how big they think the box office numbers for them will be. I think if the stars align just right...Superman could be Batman (1989), Spiderman (2002) big. Maybe bigger.

Well, I guess the Superman numbers would decide really how much of this talk about serious, conflict based films being cool is actually true. Look, I have no grudges against X3, infact I liked both the previous movies and will be soon viewing this one at a theatre, but, if SR doesn't makes as good numbers as X3 despite prima facie being a more serious and emotional film, then I think those who keep questioning Superman's campiness and swoon over X-MEN's emotional intensity would have something to answer for. In my opinion it would show that people judge things based on notions rather than personal experience.

Not opening weekend...and there are two reasons why...

1) X-men, due to it being a second sequel has a built in GENERAL PUBLIC fan base. Superman may be well known, and I'm sure when the masses see the commercial they will be intrigued to see it...but at their convinence. X-men on the other hand, has built in fans within the public due to the first two movies who have been waiting for this.

2) Run time. X-men III was 1hr 45mins appx. Superman is seemingly AT LEAST somewhere between 2hrs 20mins and 2 hrs 50 mins. That means less showings in any given day.

I don't care if it beats X-3. I just want it to do good.

And Superman is being played by a guy that has no movie background and little fanbase with the general public. Superman Returns has alot of uncertain areas but I hope it does well.

superman will lose opening day for sure, andprobaly opening weekend. im 90% itll win total and im 100% sure itll win worldwide gross.

I don't think it'll be the biggest movie of the year. Superman is just too goodie goodie for the cynical world.

I know it'll be my favorite movie of the year though.

The thing Superman will have against it is Pirates of the Caribbean coming out soon afterwards. X-3 biggest competition is the Davinci Code which was out before it .

Two very good points. I hope its about 2 hrs 20 mins like Batman Begins. 2 50 is a bit long. X3 was too short though in my opinion.

Yeah POTC comes out one week after I believe.

True but Da Vinci opened a week before X3 as well and it's already well past the 400 million mark. Both Da Vinci and X3 also opened to mixed response both critically and fan wise. But both still made money.

Therefore I feel that we may or may not see a drop to the number 2 spot with POTC...BUT it's also very possible we see both films still do very well that week.

In any case I dont care how much it makes as long as it's a good film. Sure I want it to be a success but if it doesnt break any records so what. I want it to be successful for the people that put their hard work into the film. But I'm more for quality over quantity.

I'm not comparing the two films but you know Star Wars in 77 was the "goodie goodie" film in a cynical world. Sometimes all you need is a little hope. (realizing the star wars pun there....really not intended)

At this point I have no clue. X3 is turning out good numbers out of the gate, but this coming weekend will be the true sign as to whether or not this thing burns like butane or if it actually has legs. I really couldn't care less about which one makes more money, though. I was extremely disappointed with X3 all around. I really like the first two X-films and was bummed out this past Friday. The way I look at it now is that if X-Men has to suck, then SR better be good enough for it to be worth Singer jumping ship. If both of these movies let me down, I don't know what the hell I'm gonna do.:)
