I often wonder why there isn't one... theres so many characters, so many story lines that if it were a hit and done right... the show could easily last 7 too 10 yrs. Also; it would to be a reboot for some characters.
If they can make a show about a young Clark Kent Last this long (and that show has improved alot in the past 3 seasons).

I'm sure it will be done.... is just an issue of time.

Probably not because like most TV shows with heavy SFX the cost per episode is usually more than the show will pull in with advertising. The show would have to be a huge mega hit (American Idol) to bring in huge advertising dollars.

Not to say it couldn't happen, but the odds aren't good. On the other hand if they were to go the route of Smallville and other fantasy based shows where the SFX are much more "budget minded" and used more sparingly it could be done, but it would still have to be a hit to recoup the costs.

The comic book Generation X was supposed to become a tv series at two points in the 90's, but it never fell through. They did do the tv movie though - which was horrible!

I guess the closest thing we got to a live action tv series, was that X-Men rip-off, Mutant X.

Like thegameq said, the budget per episode would prob be huge. I'd like to see them try and do Generation X again, or New Mutants. That could pass with a Smallville type budget.

When Heroes is all over and the X-films are a decade in the past, then I reckon we'll see a tv series.

Heroes has been done, and is like x-men (persons with powers) so the x-men series can be done too. The effects haven't to be like the movies, and not all would be action, so? what's the problem? I really don't see any.

It's really a combination of budget and scheduling. To create a weekly series with special effects is difficult to do on a regular basis. These movies spend more time in post production than they do shooting their footage.

I DO think it's possible, but highly unlikely because we don't want hokey and cheesy versions of X-Men (No Power Rangers type stuff). And to get the quality we want, it would just cost too much and take too much time...

Still, it is something I wish for. And I'd like Cyclops to be portrayed by the movie actor. Marsden started young enough that he could play that role for years down the line...

I find it more likely that an X-Men live action series would call upon the younger rather untapped (media wise) X-Men that are out there.

They'd want to go young to grab Smallville's demographic. They know Heroes is already an established hit, so they wouldn't want to run up against it with an identical show. So Cyke pry wouldn't make the cut.

I'd love to see one about the original New Mutants lineup.

Absolutely. It would probably focus on another school or team of young mutants - they'd probably avoid using the previous X-Men stars or the previous X-Men locations/sets.

I'd love a version set in UK (like the X-calibur team), but I realise that America would be making it and America would want to set it in America.

There was talk of an X-Factor television series using mutants as government agents to find other mutants and stop anti-mutant crime, and including Multiple Man as part of the team. He'd be assigned to the team as a sentence for his crimes in X3. That would work... and maybe the very, very occasional special guest cameo by an existing X-Men star (Storm, Beast, Moira) who they would consult or speak to via a video link.

There are plenty of characters and scenarios that would work, and plenty that could be invented/created with a little imagination.

Multiple Man as a character would also work effects wise... Nothing too flashy there.

It would probably end up following the Smallville Template. Xavier starting a school and recruiting a young scott, jean, warren, bobby, and hank. Although I would include Storm (for more women). And then it would be them going to this "special" school and dealing with prejudice from peers, and the temptation to use their powers irresponsibly... You could also have Magneto with some of his own gang members causing trouble...

Nah, I don't see them utlizing well known characters that have already been abused in other forms of media. I think they'd go with characters that haven't been seen much at all in the movies/cartoons, so they'd have a bit more creative freedom.

That, and the original five are on their THIRD attempt in the comics (the first run of X-Men got cancelled, and so did the "Hidden Years" or whatever. First Class is the third try to get these guys to sell as a team).

That's probably what it WOULDN'T do, considering it was mentioned that there was an X-Factor idea featuring Multiple Man. Time for new characters. Not a reboot series.

SFX would be costly, yes, but Heroes has proved it can be done right. And in 10 years time, effects would be greatly enhanced.

OMGZ!!!1!!1!!! We can't just have Cyke and Jean go through the same old story over and over again until the end of time? NOOOOOOOOO!

:whatever: :whatever: :whatever: :whatever: :whatever:

What you're describing wouldn't be X-men. It would be Mutant X all over again. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the last heavy SFX show was the Flash from the 80s on CBS. The show was popular with fans, and cashed in on the Batman film's from the era. But I remember more than a few articles citing the show's costs--mainly the sfx as prohibitive.

Pretty much everything else since has been B movie grade stuff with budget sfx. The Star Trek series and it's spinoffs as well as that other space show with Video Toaster sfx are great examples of good sfx done on a budget and used sparingly.

I think a live action X-men would have to focus moreso on characters and story and use sfx sparingly. Not necessarily a bad thing since X-men does have very strong and deep characters to draw from. But the more fantastical elements would probably be downplayed to cut down on the cost of sfx. Alot of fans would not be happy.

It's so ironic, that the very thing that was supposed to make comicbook characters come to life more vividly (advancement in cgi sfx) is damn near prohibitively expensive to use in both tv and film.

I know. Television is so expensive and studios are so stingy. Sometimes you have to spend money to make money!

And I don't think you could round up X-Factor characters or others in the X-Universe together and call the show X-Men.

As for Mutant X, yes it was essentially an alternative spin-off of the X-Franchise (Marvel was involved) and I for one did enjoy it.

I watched it to...albeit not religously. Mutant X might be the best glimpse of what an X-men tv show would look like.

I think a live action toned down version of X-men:Evolution could be a hit. It does have all the elements; teen angst, drama,.........yeah I know Smallville. A more serious or mature series would be a fantasy driven soap opera....interesting....

Heroes is such a rip off of X-Men that I can't watch it.... and its too slow (hey, you know what hapened on Heroes last week; Nothing). A show thats a cross between Heroes and Mutant X would be good. It would have to be X-Men... not sure people would get excited about any of the other groups.

Given your username I hope you're prepared for people to assume you're a Heroes fan :cwink::woot:

There's a lot that could be done with a TV series, but also a lot of money that would have to be put in to make it. :csad:

I give a 10 years prediction, hahaa.

see i always thought that it would be cool but money wise it would be crazy to produce but then along came smallville and supernatural and charmed and heroes...

if they use the powers as a secondary focus and develop story lines like heroes does it can work
