The Dark Knight William Fichtner - Wasted?

It took me ages to remember where I'd see that bum before. He's Boris the Blade.

I don't get this logic. Would you prefer Nolan cast a lousy actor for the role? Just because it's (presumably) a small role doesn't mean you still shouldn't hire the best actor you can get. "Wasted" implies his potential is being cut short, which isn't the case here. It's not like, if he wasn't the bank manager, he would've been Mr. Freeze or something.

He's a great character actor, but on the Hollywood totem pole, he's a (at best) a C-lister, and he's been given a C-list role. Sounds reasonable.

He had a small role alongside Bale in Equilibrium and was perfect. After all, there are no small roles, only small actors right? :oldrazz:

Guys, Nolan used award winning Rade Serbedzija for the two lines of the homeless in Batman Begins. When you have so much money to spend, you can afford to waste them.
this guy was in MI-2 right?
i was suprised to see that guy as a bum saying....nice coat :woot:

This isn't the first bit part Fitchner has had in a big budget movie. As others have pointed out he's friends with Nolan and he was asked to do this small role as favor so it's not really a waste.I doubt Fitchner thinks that - TDK doesn't look bad on anyone's resume.

Here he is at the premiere of The Prestige late last year.

Good point.

Who knows, maybe Fichtner will have a role a la Bruce Campbell in the Spider-Man films.

I don't think Bruce was wasted.

Well, he did seem kinda drunk with that French matordee scene.

was he in the first movie?

Nothing you didn't know already, but...

From today's edition of AV Club:

"William Fichtner: Dark Knight, it's a very simple little thing I do. The producer of The Amateurs, Aaron Ryder, is really good friends with [Dark Knight director] Chris Nolan. He produced The Prestige and Memento with him. And I met Chris a couple of times, and Chris called me and asked me would I play, I guess you'd call it a cameo in the beginning of the film. It was one of those things—for no other reason than I just really dig Chris as a filmmaker, I think he's great, "Yeah, yeah. I'll do it. Of course." That was it."

LOL imagine Chris Nolan just calling you up like that.

Must be nice!

"Hey, a-z, I was just wondering if you'd take a role in The Prisoner for me?"

Uh, sure, Chris. Just let me check my schedule.

William Fichtner is great, but I really couldn't care less about him having a more important role in the film. I mean, how is this waste? The screen time is going to be divided between Bale, Oldman, Ledger, Caine, Gyllenhaal and Eckhart. If Fichtner took on a more "important" role, then he still wouldn't have much screen time, because all the popular roles have been taken.

It's hardly a waste.

Drowning Mona, Equilibrium, Ultraviolet, too. He's under every rock.

But it's exactly like a poster said in the previous page: Nolan put an Oscar nominee for the homeless "Nice coat" guy in BB, why not Fichtner, too?

Didn't this dude star in that tv show, Invasion?

You guys should see him in Soderbergh's The Underneath. Very, very creepy in that.

And most of us probably saw him in The Perfect Storm, unfortunately...

Now, I'm not one to complain. I'm super-hyped for "The Dark Knight", and think the cast is awesome. When William Fichtner was added to the cast, I was very excited, thinking, "GREAT! Another excellent actor joins the Batman ensemble!" But then I hear he's playing...the Bank Manager.

FWIW, the Joker doesn't KILL the guy during the robbery, as far as we can tell. He makes him cr*p his pants, and he DOES get shot, but that's about it. So maybe he has another scene or two.

or his fate could be left uncertain *shrugs*

Eh, it was just a cameo part any ways. Does it really matter?
