Windows Network Problem

Yeah, I tried all the obvious things first and nothing has helped. Rolling back the OS didn't even work. I'm fixing to just reformat the whole ****ing thing and see if that accomplishes anything. If not, then I know the problem is the NIC.

NIC's are cheap, dude. Before you reformat, just pick up a replacement, yank the old one and slap it in. If that was the problem you'll know pretty damn straight away. It's also possible that the slot that your NIC card is in went goofy or the card just needs to be pulled and reseated. If it's an onboard NIC, then there's really no way to replace it unless you replace the whole motherboard.

Okay, after a reformat, the damn thing is still isn't working. Windows says the NIC is fine, but that's the only thing I can come up with...that the NIC is shot.

Well, see, it's my father in law's computer and it's never been reformatted. It needed it anyway. It just sucks that it didn't ****ing help!

To make matters even more confusing, I tried with a second Windows laptop and it has the same problem, but the Mac still works like a charm. WTF is going on? Bill Gates has infected my network!!! Get him out!!! Get him out!!!

Any ideas on correcting that? As a last ditch effort I could call the ISP, but I despise talking to those morons.

I've been connected directly to the cable modem. There's something weird going on between Windows and the modem because like I said the Mac is fine. I'm really confused. I don't know what in the hell could be causing this sort of issue.

Between the two of us we almost make a complete Tech Support person. Malice is our annoying co-worker that eats Cheetos and gets that orange dust all over everything.

Surprisingly, where I work there is only 2 of us. And we take care of about 850 computers and printers ourselves. Got to love Hershey!!! 2 guys for the main plant and offices, Chocolate World, 3 trucking companies, recycling center and Chocolate World Chicago.

Yeah, there's a reason I quit doing support work. I was a SysAdmin and Network Admin for ~50+ NT boxes, ~25+ UNIX boxes and an assload of Cisco and ProCurve gear. If I wasn't working bizarro hours in addition to being available during the day to help people, I was dealing with an "emergency" or spending all my free time reading manuals and release info on new OS's or updates/patches. Bleh.

Since we're throwing out windows related problem. I also have a problem for every antivirus program I used it always sees my system files as viruses. So if I allow the av program to quarantine the file or delete it I will be screwed because I won't be able to boot windows. I've tried so far Bit Defender, ESET Smart Security, AVG Pro and Kapersky.

Something very well could have infected your system files, then.

There are viruses that get onto your disk that will survive a reformat. Best to do some more digging to find out what the virus is because you may need a special tool, possibly even a custom boot disk off of a clean system, to get rid of it.

To make it worse I had a team of 10 PC tech's that I was managing on top of that. Three of them were slacker jackasses who had to practically be flogged to get them to show up for work on time and actually do their damn jobs. The company I worked for at the time wouldn't let me can them, so I was sort of stuck with them. Ugh.
