Winston Duke IS M'Baku

I could definitely see him being elevated to main villain in the next movie. Especially considering the complex theme of
Isolation vs. accessibility that the ending seems to set up. Opening Wakanda to the world opens up a can of worms. There is a legitimate reason why some nations become isolationist. 1st world Nations WILL come for natural resources. Also the threat of the Wakandan's losing their traditions and way of life. It would be trying to return Wakanda back to the way it was before T'Challa opened the flood gates rather than trying to turn the country primitive.

Hmmm... not sure I'd want him as a straight up villain anymore after BP.

I'd love for him to be the Vegeta to T'challa's Goku.

Having loved Duke since his days on Person of Interest, I knew he was going to own this role, and its great to see my confidence vindicated and his talent getting exposed at such a high level. Hopefully this is the start of a very good career for him. (And here's to getting much more M'Baku in the future. I really like the comparison of him being T'Challa's Vegeta)

Yeah I definitely wouldn’t. That would undercut some of his scenes in this film.

I'm a Black woman, not a guy, and I wasn't offended, either. Coogler, et al. did a great job with the Jobari. Some of their scenes had the audience cracking up. Duke himself was properly imposing. I loved that he was physically so much bigger than anyone else. Can't wait to see the Jobari kicking alien ass in IW.

I'm not black, but I think the reason why it doesn't offend is that M'Baku wears these gorilla insignia with so much dignity and pride - within his tribe, the Gorilla metaphor has nothing degrading.

In many societies, comparing people to animals (or at least to certain animals) is considered insulting - while in others it just isn't. The movie makes it clear that that kind of insult doesn't exist in M'Baku's tribe, at least not in the case of that particular animal.

I think you’re right there and have explained that well

How tall is Winston Duke? He didn't seem super tall. Only taller than the others because they aren't so tall to begin with.

It would've been cool if Michael Clark Duncan were still alive and played the role.

He'd have been a whole inch taller! Egads!

That'd show up on screen, alright.

I really hope he has a decent part in Infinity War. He’s one of the takeaways I got from the film.

He is the African dude from the Messengers! The tv series I enjoyed and no one else watched. Too bad he appeared very late in the series but was good anyway.

6'4

2 of the funniest scenes in the movie involved him.

He really has great comedic timing.

How about Loki to T’Challa’s Thor? Heh, I guess I like baddies way too much. I do wanna keep him around throughout the series and the MCU. I swear, they did a GOOD JOB taking a character that could be seen as problematic, stripping him to his core and making him one of my favorite characters in the film.

M'Baku was my favorite character but I just hope they don't kill him off in Infinity War

I thought he's taller. Ben Affleck is 6'4" and Michael Clark Duncan looked a far bit taller than him in Daredevil.

For some reason, M'Baku reminds me of Gimli from Lord of the Rings.

Affleck is 6'2. Maybe 6'2 1/2. Though he's still one of the tallest leading men in the industry.

I've read Duke is either 6'4 or 6'5.

I thought Affleck always listed his height as 6'4. He looks pretty tall. Taller than 6'2". Michael Clark Duncan looked about 6'7".

That goes on all the time, Raven. Schwarzenegger says he's like 6'2" or something, he's not.

Pretty much most leading-men type actors inflate it.

But yeah, Duke's 6'4" according to the imdb stuff. Seems taller on Person Of Interest, but that's pretty easy to fake, they probably just surround him with shorties as supporting actors and extras.

M'Baku was incorporated nicely into the film, first serving as an antagonist to T'Challa to help demonstrate the Wakandan ritual of dueling for the throne, and then as an ally of T'Challa to help defeat Killmonger. He had some good lines in the movie, and he helped illustrate the differing tribes that make up the nation of Wakanda.
