Wolfenstein: The New Order

The idea of "What if the Nazi's won" is an interesting one.. It's incredibly scary to think about, but I want to see how this game plays out.

I read a book that for a chapter covered that topic. It posed that in the case of England, the Nazi's wouldn't have gone all out and occupied the country throwing swastikas up left and right but would have forced them to disband their armed forces and become economically dependent on Germany in various ways.

I think actually in the case of the US, they might have been content with us agreeing to stay on our side of the pond, we're a big expansive country and Germany really only has so much manpower. I don't think occupying us through martial force was a real possibility for them.

All that being said the real Nazis didn't have walking mech tanks SO WHO KNOWS IN THAT CASE.

On topic, I am entertained by the evil Nazi lady on the train cackling. Also this Wolfenstein talk has reminded me of Enemy Territory and how awesome that game was.

I dunno, Hitler was pretty insane. Example was in the documentary The War, a group of Marines took several German POW's. One of them was a high ranking officer.. The officer asked one of the Marines where he was from and the Marine replied (I'm not 100% sure if this is the exact quote as I haven't watched it in a few months) that he lived in Ohio, the officer asked where in Ohio so the Marine said Mansfield.. The German officer began to describe Mansfield to the solider and then said "That's where I planned on living once we won the war.."

That's also just the story from one man..I could easily see it being a Pipe dream of Hitlers though. Even if they would have tried, The US Navy would have stopped them cold before they could even think of mounting a trans-Atlantic invasion...Which according to documents, Hitler believed was more than a century away from ever being a possibility.

I had zero intentions on taking over the thread with History talk. :p

That sounds more like something to rattle and **** with the POW than anything else.

Aside from being a power hungry genocidal racist, most of Hitler's moves throughout the war make strategic sense. Invading America is just a huge undertaking when you consider the distances and manpower involved, especially if we are to assume that by this point Germany is already occupying Europe and Russia. That's not to say it was IMPOSSIBLE, I just don't think it would have been very likely.

And for as powerful as the German war machine was, it didn't beat anyone that survived the initial blitzkrieg portion. Britain and Russia both managed to hang on, and once Russia began to rebound it was over.

Yeah. I find myself often wondering though.. What if Britain and Russia had surrendered by 1942? Would there have been an Axis invasion of North America by 1950?

I agree with you.. I don't think it would have been very likely, if anything I think they would have more or less left the US alone as long as we kept to our side of the Ocean.. but Hitler was a firm in the theory that the best defense is a good offense.

Who can really say..if Hitler struck a blow hard enough that forced America out of the war... Would he have been "calm" enough to let us alone? He was fairly egotistical.

I will say to your point - the Nazi's if nothing else needed threats to point to and attack. I don't think their regime, culturally would have survived a long stretch of peacetime.

Agreed.

It's just something that "creeps" me out when I think about it, lol. I'm a big WWII buff...I honestly used to have nightmares about Modern Day America under Nazi rule. I wish I would have wrote some of that stuff down.

Yeah, the first part of this trailer:

[YT]BlvfqfGTar4[/YT]

is scary to think about. The trailer didn't really hit til it showed the family. The mother crying, the father's shock, and the kid not knowing what is about to come down on his world. Yeah, that got to me a bit. Then the mechs come in and ruin a great what if video. It got me thinking tho, we have some great WEb movies, but no one has ever attempted a film where the Nazis won and what the fall out might be. I'd love a war film on the scale of Saving Private Ryan and with the same level of quality and execution set in an America after the Nazis won the war.

Anyways, the game looks like a blast, and I will check it out.

That is one of the worst things I've seen lol. Why the hell would they not put the game in it?

This is shaping up really nicely. I hope it's as great as it looks.

That video had me laughing my ass off. I wasnt sold on the game, but that video did the trick. I love that it has a stealth or balls to the wall mayhem way of approaching the campaign.

Blazkowicz's face in that trailer makes me wish it was part of the UI like in Wolfenstein 3D.

Reviews are starting to come in. So far so good.

I quite like it.. It's not perfect but I would give it a very solid 8. Really fun, IMHO.

What's going on with DOOM? I heard it's not even close to Beta stage.

Development is ongoing. The date for the beta hasn't been announced.

An invasion would be impossible. Though a Cold War could have developed.

Pragmatically speaking, if Russia had capitulated in late 1941 (as it nearly did), Hitler would have to shift his focus to pacifying Eastern Europe.

Britain would probably have sued for peace at that point (and by extension Canada). Hitler actually wanted peace with Britain, and with Russia out of the fight, I question if they wouldn't accept his terms for an armistice.

The main incentive for America to build "the bomb", was Japan, which would likely still have attacked Pearl Harbor, even if Operation Barbarossa was a total success. The Japanese atomic bomb program was actually much closer to making a bomb than most people realize.

The question then would be if Germany would still declare war on America, or if the Germans and Americans wouldn't hammer out a non-aggression treaty.

But then you have two superpowers, each with an atomic weapons program, and a fledgling space program... Hello, Cold Krieg.

I do enjoy alternate history speculating. Probably why this game appeals to me (besides being good).

Like 2-3 hours into this, having fun. The writing is pretty sharp, I can't get enough of the news clippings and am always on the hunt for them. Gameplay is nice and retro, stealth is a bigger element than I had expected but that's welcome.

So far my only issue is the audio. This has to be one of the worst audio mixes I've ever encountered. And the lack of proper volume controls or stereo option makes it even worse. On my tv speakers it's just a garbled mess of sound effects and voices. If it wasn't for subtitles I wouldn't have a clue what anyone was saying.
