Wolverine filming update/news.

Or he's on a break from filming. Was Hugh spotted leaving with them as well?

No, Hugh wasn't spotted.

It could be he's on a break - I'm also assuming there will be some sort of break toward the end of April since Hugh has another movie coming out on April 25 to promote, which I assume he will do and attend the premiere, unless they do filming without him at that time.

X-Men producer praises subsidy for blockbusters
By DAVID WILLIAMS - The Press | Saturday, 29 March 2008

Government grants are essential for hooking big budget movies into coming back, the producer of the latest Hollywood blockbuster to film in New Zealand says.

X-Men Origins: Wolverine producer Ralph Winter, who cut his teeth on the Star Trek films and has produced the other three X-Men movies, told The Press from Sydney that the New Zealand Government's grant of 15 per cent made a huge difference.

"Particularly when the US dollar is taking a beating around the world and you're spending $15 million to $20m in New Zealand.

"We keep track of those things very, very carefully in our accounting department because those are big dollars."

Economic Development Minister Pete Hodgson said the Large Budget Screen Production Grant ensured New Zealand remained internationally competitive in the film sector.

"Since 2003 the Government has paid out just over $100m, which means that an additional $800m has been brought into the New Zealand economy."

Film New Zealand chief executive Judith McCann said the grants, introduced at 12.5 per cent in 2003 and lifted to 15 per cent last July, were crucial and had been hugely effective.

"Essentially it's to attract production here which generates more than 15 per cent of expenditures - it means you're attracting 85 per cent you wouldn't have had anyway."

McCann said the X-Men blockbuster was the first to be based out of Fox Studios in Sydney and filmed on both sides of the Tasman.

Location shooting in New Zealand for Wolverine finished at Easter. Filming will continue in Sydney until June, when post-production will move to Los Angeles.

Winter said he would love to work in New Zealand again.

Before filming, he talked to Wellington-based visual effects companies Weta Digital and Weta Workshop, co-owned by Peter Jackson, about working on Wolverine after using them on Fantastic Four and Rise of the Silver Surfer.

However, the companies were busy making Avatar and The Lovely Bones.
The producer said he could tell why the Narnia movies and Lord of the Rings were shot in Kiwi landscapes.

"The stuff in New Zealand is just extraordinary - it is unlike any other place on the Earth," he said.

X-Men Origins: Wolverine will be released in May 2009.

It's interesting how you find out some tidbits in articles that have nothing to do with the movie - in an interview with Hugh's wife about adoption in this article, it mentions that they are in Queensland:

http://www.theage.com.au/news/national/overseas-adoption-move-welcomed/2008/03/29/1206207501249.html

The actress has long championed the need for legal reform. "I'm thrilled, I'm beside myself," she said yesterday while holidaying in Queensland with her husband, Hugh Jackman, and their two adopted children.

Wolverine does need WETA, all the effects in this movie should be practical anyway, with the exeption of Gambit's powers... and he's only gunna be a small part anyway...

X-Men origins: Wolverine to inject $60 million into Sydney economy

Hugh Jackman's latest movie X-Men Origins: Wolverine has begun shooting in Sydney and will inject an estimated $60 million and 250 full-time equivalent jobs into the city's economy.

The NSW Government has assisted the movie's producers to help secure the bulk of the production work for NSW and to support the State's film industry.

Most of the pre-production and main unit filming will take place in Sydney at Fox Studios and other local locations, creating jobs for NSW film industry workers.

The producers of X-Men Origins: Wolverine, which include Hugh Jackman's own Australian production company Seed Prods, say the movie will see at least $60 million spent in NSW.

X-Men Origins: Wolverine will see the employment in NSW of 220 people in its pre-production phase; 350 crew, 45 actors and 1,200 extras during its production phase; and 40 people during its post-production.

X-Men Origins: Wolverine is the prequel to the highly successful X-Men trilogy which grossed US$1.2 billion world-wide.

As well as being the star of the movie, Hugh Jackman will also produce the movie together with John Palermo, Lauren Schuler-Donner and Ralph Winter.

The movie’s producers have chosen Sydney as the base for the production ahead of Canada thanks to the city's key infrastructure at Fox Studios and the city's talented crew base.

X-Men Origins: Wolverine is scheduled for release in 2009 and will be distributed by 20th Century Fox Film Corporation.

Sounds like a good amount of actors and extras involved.

This is great news. Has anybody seen Scott in Undisputed 2? He's a talented martial artist.

So it IS him! The name felt so familiar and then I remembered Undisputed 2. The guy is a friggin beast! I don't like the fact that they are still adding more characters into the story because it's already way too crowded IMO. But at least Adkins versus Jackman shoud be a good fight.

Weapon 11?

Hmm. Interesting.

According to

http://www.cinematical.com/2008/04/10/a-few-scraps-of-wolverine-news-new-cast-member-added :

Weapon 11 first showed up in Grant Morrison's New X-Men series, which turned the whole Weapon X story inside out. Turns out, Logan wasn't just Weapon X because it sounded cool -- he was the tenth in a long line of Weapon Plus experimental super soldiers. It caused a bit of controversy and still does, especially as various Marvel characters are revealed to be Weapon Gazillion in every other issue.

The odd thing is, no one knows who Weapon 11 actually is. We just know he is a badass who has managed to beat Sabretooth senseless, which is no small feat. But now we know it was a guy named Scott Adkins. Mystery solved!

This is pretty cool. The fight between Wolverine and Weapon 11 sounds freakin sweet. Each news I hear on this movie I get more and more excited for it.

The person who runs his webpage posted a note at IMDB and said he's in contact with him and said this about the final scene:

its not going to be the main final fight but it is during the end sequence so sabertooth could still be the final fight. but with scott featuring in the end sequence it will be a good build up

Who is Weapon 11?

I know theres a number of Weapons plus programs, but Idont know whos who outside X and I (Bradley Cap right?)

If Wolverine is Weapon X (10), wouldn't that make Deathstrike Weapon 11?

^ Not necessarily, since we don't know when Deathstryke was subjected to the adamantium bonding process. There could be others after Wolverine but before her. If they really wanted to tie Deathstryke into her comic book counterpart's motivations, she could have volunteered years later in order to exact revenge upon Wolverine... only to be manipulated by Stryker and caught up in the events of X2. It's just kind of a shame she died the way she did.

that movie was sick! although it does seem like alot of characters, it might be like Tony Jaa's 'The Protector' where one by one all these people show up to fight. that would be cool.

I'm new here & I wonder if anybody could give me a quck update on what characters from the comics are known to be appearing in this movie.

Thanks!!
