Article on Yahoo Movies talks about Jackman's recorded statement on the 2007 release, they then go on to say:

Fox, however, has since reined in those expectations--a studio rep says the film is in the early stages of preproduction and, due in part to Jackman's busy schedule and the lack of a director, won't likely unspool until 2008

This is the best news ever.

Thinking about this, perhaps the person speaking in Amsterdam was working on old information.

Maybe at one point they were hoping to start shooting this towards the end of this year ready for release in 2007.

Then back in April and May the Baz Luhrmann epic began to fall apart. Crowe was out and they needed a name aussie actor to replace him or else cancel the project. Fox were already on good terms with Jackman and how could he resist the lead in an australian epic directed by Baz Luhrmann? The only problem being a potential schedule clash with Wolverine. So they had to decide between cancelling the Luhrmann project and delaying Wolverine.

Thank God that they will not release it next year!

Hugh wasn't cast as the lead in the Lurhmann movie until June 9, BUT way back in February he WAS being considered as the "third lead" in that movie, so truthfully, I think the 2007 filming/2008 release date was always in the cards - the wording just got screwed up in the announcement. Hugh was never available to film the movie this year - his arena tour is from Aug. 3-Sept. 16 and even if they did start filming in October if he wasn't doing another movie, that's not enough time for a summer release if it's a three-month filming schedule. And in his X-3 interviews just last month, Hugh always said they had two drafts and were getting a third and then would look for a director, so I never though this would be in theaters in 2007. My guess is he will film this after the Luhrmann movie, probably summer next year.

This only makes sense. For a 2007 release they would have to begin filming right now. Seeing as how they aren't filming just yet, the delay is only logical. :)

The delay is inevitable, but I'm annoyed FOX just announced the film would be released in 2007, and Jackman testified to this.

Jackman and FOX both look silly retracting a statement that was made only days ago.

We didn't hear what they said, only what was reported in print. It could be that the press got it wrong - it's not the first time they would have reported misinformation or twisted things around.

I'm with narrows...sounds like Hollywood Reporter made a typo on their part. Everyone's just unnecessarily freaking out about it.

Apparently Fox's original announcement was only that "They are making a Wolverine Movie to come out soon." The only person that said 2007 was Hugh Jackman.

I bet Hugh meant he would be filming it in 2007 - you know how Aussies have different phraseology! Maybe he said something like "coming in 2007" and he meant filming and everyone thought he meant being released. I wish we could find audio out there somewhere so we can hear it exactly - it must exist because I read on another message board that Howard Stern played it on his radio show!

Maybe Hugh found out about the delay the same time we did. Hugh only knows what he's been told. :)

Hugh's one of the producers - he knows what's going on. From everything I've read about this and Hugh's schedule from my millions of Google alerts and watching every Hugh interview in creation, :) I'm positive they always meant *filming* in 2007 for a 2008 premiere. I knew way before this announcement that he was too busy this year to film it knowing his schedule and the script just wasn't ready yet and they didn't have a director.

Could be. :) I just don't see it as Hugh losing face if there was a delay. These things happen.

During the X3 promos he said that they might start production sometime next year. I can't remember which interview or whether it was in print or on video. So narrows, your mission (if you choose etc) is to track down that interview!

yay! yay! YAY! This had me so scared! finally they do something right! :D

Wolf man Hugh to get own movie

05jul06

[FONT=Arial,Helvetica,Sans-Serif]GOOD news for fans of Hugh Jackman and the X-Men franchise.

Jackman's script for a spin-off based on his character, Wolverine, is well advanced.

"We all put a lot of effort into the development of this one (X-Men 3 ), with the script and so on," he said.

"So I'm in development for a movie based on Wolverine.

"I don't know when it will come out, probably in a couple of years.

"We've done a couple of drafts of scripts, so it is a reality."

Jackman is in Sydney rehearsing for the arena tour of The Boy from Oz, which starts next month.
