Woman dies of water overdose

Its water. Like for real. And they didn't hold a gun to her head to do it. :whatever:

That is not the point, they should of known better then to have such a stupid contest. You would think people would know about drinking heavy doses of water is dangerous. Maybe the lady was not too smart but that does not mean that people who did contest did nothing wrong. What if a radio station had a contest where people who can hold their hands longest over a flame would get $1000 dollars, yes some people would be stupid enough to take part but the point is the Radio station presenters should of known better and should of known the health risks before taking up such contests.

Again, nobody forced her to do it. And I'm positive she signed a release or waiver of some sort. You're being overly sensitive. The radio hosts shouldn't be blamed because the lady was stupid.:whatever:

What I am saying is that before they did this contest they should of checked the health risks to the contenders. You would think people would take these thinks into care before holding such a contest.

Its a radio contest, and its water. I mean, people have died in chicken wing eating contests, choked on a bone or something. Its nothing new, again, the responsibility lies on the person, and since she did this on her own free will, and probably would've done it knowing the supposed health risks, the blame lies on her, and her alone for being a cheapass. I have zero remorse for this lady.

That is in your opinion. In my opinion, I hold the Radio station responsible as well. I just believe they should of checked the health risks of drinking too much water, if they had they would of known it is dangerous. I also do blame to women, but I do not put all the blame on her.

There are health risks for anything, and again, I'd bet my left testicle, she would've done it anyway knowing the risk. You're like the person who blames the teacher for my lazy kid getting an F in school.

Well I would put the blame on someone else, I would rather not mention who :D

She's a mother of 3.

Regardless of what waiver she signed, the radio station is looking at a wrongful death suit along with some possible manslaughter charges. The DJ's and probably upper management will probably be removed as well.

Her being a mother of 3 is irrelevant. Maybe you can play sad music while her kids walk into court and the Jury will go Awww and give her family millions of dollars, but that still doesn't change the fact that she acted under her own free will. Stupid radio contests like this occur everyday. I feel for her children, I don't feel for her, at all.

did they mention if they told the contestants that this is can be fatal?

Something like this?

"Drinking large quantities of water rapidly can throw off the body's balance of electrolytes, causing brain swelling and leading to seizures, coma or even death."

if they did tell her, she would be responsible for it, but if they didn't, the people in charge should be held accountable.

No, but other contestants stopped when they started feeling ill. Again, she could've stopped, and she could have never started.

I'm just stating what will probably happen. She did do all this on her own accord and no matter what waiver she signed, it's pretty obvious the radio station is going to have to pay out.

The station should give her family the Wii out of sympathy.

well, either way, someone is now dead because they didn't know what water can do to the body...

Yeah, I know.

Thats ridiculous.

This is not her fault. Those responsible are those who organized such a ridiculous contest without doing research beforehand.

I've heard of drowning but this is just ridiculous:(

I agree, the radio station is at fault. They are fully responsible for asking people to come onto their radio show and compete in this silly stunt. They should have looked into all the possible complications. But what really gets me is why is this the DJ's fault? Sure they came up with the contest but shouldn't the radio station be responsible for letting them do it? I mean the station had to know that the contest but be advertised and the the winner would get the Nintendo. They had to o.k. it so why blame the Dj's? If the radio station knew about it and let it happen then it is all their fault. Either way the family will likely get a lot more than a $250 Wii.

You have a point. It was not the DJ's fault at all, rather the stations for organizing this without taking the time to research anything. The DJ seems responsible because he advertised it verbally, though he was only doing what he was told.

I listend to the actual bit on the radio.

I'm paraphrasing but the DJ essentially said to her, "Did you talk to the Intern and did he tell you the precautions"?

Yeah if you are getting medical advice from a Radio Intern than you know they did like 0 reserach into this.
I know you can die from water intoxication, but I'm not sure how common that knowledge is.

I think ragrdless of how common the knowledge is, it is nonetheless something that needs to be researched. No matter what the contest may have involved it was necessary to ensure the safety of the participants. They failed to do so.

the radio station shouldnt be at fault, for this.Nobody forced the dumb broad to do this..it was her and fault alone

man... i remember when my friends and i used to rave and do acid and x and all that jazz, and water was our best friend... i'd probably go through a gallon of water in an hour or so.
