Woman dies of water overdose

and i agree that the radio station should not be held accountable. nobody forced this lady to do anything.

if i told one of you to go jump off of a bridge, or hold your head underwater, or drink drano, and i would give you a dollar, and you did, and died, should i have to give your family money then? nope, that's just stupid.

plus, why is everyone so sure that the radio didn't tell this lady there could be risks? they very well may have.

If they knew the ricks they wouldnt have organized something so stupid.

Regardless of what the Radio Station told this girl. The fact of the matter is she died.

People at that Radio Station, possibly the DJ's and upper management are probably going to have to find a new job.

There will be possible manslaughter charges.

Lastly the parent company whether it be Viacom or something will definitely be paying some sort of wrongful death suit.

Wow. What amazes me more than anything is that this got all the way through the planning/organising phases etc and nobody thought to say 'hey, isn't this dangerous?'

Exactly my point.

Radio Station Owners and Employees are people too.

Obviously the idea came from the stupid "Wii" name. They thought it would be "funny".

Why is the stupid lady a "victim" because she didn't know how dangerous it was, while the Radio staff are "at fault" because they didn't know how dangerous it was?

Is holding a contest the same as, say, manufacturing space heaters and neglecting to mention that it's dangerous if they fall over, or performing surgery without washing one's hands while hungover and groggy?

What you have is a big collection of stupid, ignorant, greedy, silly people and that often ends up with fatalities. :)

This is one of those events that just sets the stage for new rules and laws. I can almost guarantee if they aren't doing now they will do so in the future, have every stupid radio contest be governed by lawyers who will make everyone sign some sort of waiver.

This is the only one in my head right now but like that lady who burned herself by the cup of coffee and sued. Now all their cups say "HOT" because people are obviously to inept to know that usually coffee is hot.

Perhaps they'll start putting warning labels on water bottles...

I've been on a misspelling spree the last few weeks. I don't know what's wrong with me. :csad:

I agree and disagree.

I agree that everyone involved was stupid and greedy.

The radio station is at fault. They are broadcasting to millions of people, who are stupid and greedy, that they can get a Wii buy coming down to the station and drinking large amounts of water. I mean the Wii is like the proverbial carrot. It would be like me taking a twinkie to the special olympics and getting two mentally challegened kids to fight for the twinkie. Whose at fault me or the mentally impared? I know its stupid to think of it like that but if a radio station hosts an event like this they need to take responsiblities for what could happen.

Even though the contestants signed waivers, the station is a bit ****ed since several people called in telling them it was dangerous and could cause injury or death. The woman said she wasn't feeling well, and had there been a paramedic on the scene, he likely would have immeidiately induced vomiting or taken her to the hospital.

Woah, people called in and said? Damnit, why the hell did someone not realise that they were being a little bit stupid here?

I believe a paramedic (a nurse, maybe?) even called in, but I'd have to find the link.

EDIT: My bad, he called after the incident.

that is a really good point

What's worse is when they were warned, they blew it off because of the waivers. They were aware of the risks, but didn't care if someone was hurt since they thought they had their asses covered.

In my opinion the radio station is just as at fault as that stupid fool who did the bum fight videos.

Or induced peeing...

Yeesh, ten people have already been fired for "violating their contracts." I think they were joking on air about how they should have researched the contest first.

Thats ridiculous.

This is not her fault. Those responsible are those who organized such a ridiculous contest without doing research beforehand.

Whats ridiculous is people not advocating self responsibility.

humm.Alot of people advised me not to water train like i do because this happens.Best way to combat it is potassium, thousands of mgs of it a day.
