WonderCon: The Ruckaning

Tell me about it. I was hoping and praying that we would see Batwoman on the BOP. Instead we get Dove, one of the most tedious characters in the entire DCU and Hawk, a braindead ugly steroid case who looks like he stole The Governators body.

I didn't think anything could make me not wish to purchase BOP written by Gail Simone but knowing that Hawk and Dove aka Dull an Duller will be on the team...well I already have pills to put me to sleep. I don't need a comic to do that..

I like Dove, it's just I liked the female Hawk we had more. I still was hoping Batwoman and Bane were rounding out the Birds of Prey.

Bane? Now that would have been interesting. Simone has returned him to the "Atoner" characterisation that he was sporting during Gotham Knights and done a very good job of it as well. And yes, I liked the female Hawk as well. Though I think you and I may be the only people who know who she is...she was criminally underused by DC

And yes, Bane and Batwoman would have been far better choices.

Bane's doing quite well on the Secret Six, thankyouverymuch. :o

Yes he is but he has always felt very much like only a temporary member of that team. I don't know why but he's always seemed like he will not be on it for good.

And having him try and adapt his methods to fit in with the BOP could be open up interesting storytelling avenues

He feels quite permanent to me. His weird-ass relationship with Scandal is one of my favorite parts of the series.

I was personally hoping Manhunter would join the Birds of Prey full-time, given that she's losing her backup in Streets of Gotham.

Well that's just it. This whole wanting to be a surrogate father to Scandal situation feels to me to be building to a climax. I get the feeling that either Bane will finally overstep in his overprotectiveness of her or Scandal will do something that Bane cannot forgive (She came close when she took the Venom during the Depths story arc) and he and the Six wll part ways

But this is just me guessing here.

From rucka's twitter...

To all who sent kind words: thank you! No bad blood w/ DC; just time to move on.

Read: Bailing out of that sinking ship. :awesome:

I kid, I kid. I know plenty of people are actually enjoying a lot of DC's comics.

I think Greg is leaving because he has no more female characters to write about.

Kidding? I think you hit the nail on the head. DC's output is positively dismal. JLA and JSA, their supposed flagship books are so awful I wouldn't use them to wrap fish. The Superman titles have hit a new low. Rise and Fall is, appropriately, falling like a rock. Or perhaps a turkey would be a more apt metaphor.

Dullest Night was abysmal and Dullest Day looks to be more of the same. The GL titles are fast running out of ways to show how much Geoff Johns wishes to have Hal Jordan's babies. And Wonder Woman...well, let me put it this way: If they changed the title of the comic to "The Adventures of John Wayne Gacey" I suspect the sales could only go UP.

DC's track record with diveristy is already **** poor. If their going to just fade out the only high profile gay chaacter they've ever had then I'm f***ing done with those morons.
To be fair, most of DC's "diversity" characters suck. Asides from a handful (Batwoman, Blue Beetle, John Stewart - when written well, Black Lightning, Cyborg, Jason Rusch, and Renee Montoya), I find most of DC's minority characters to be either dull (John Stewart - when forced into something like the JLA, Dr. Light, Bloodwynd, most of Milestone, Steel, Grace Choi, Thunder) or flat out horrible (Vixen, Vibe, Orpheus, Icemaiden).

If a boring loser like Hal Jordan can get an ongoing then Batwoman sure as hell deserves one.
How do I put this......boring loser Hal Jordan is the star of DC's highest selling ongoing title.

Batwoman on the other hand has overall been untested by writers outside of Rucka's brilliant run. There is no way to tell if people will jump on board with the character when another writer steps in Rucka's shoes or if they'll flee like what happened when Brubaker and Fraction left the Immortal Iron Fist.

Seriously, your complaint would be like me *****ing about Batman having (several) titles while Aquaman has none. Sure Aquaman is my favorite, but Batman is what sells.

I have no idea who Peter Tomasi is. Doesn't he write GLC or something? I find the Lantern mythos painful to read so I don't pick that title up but I seem to remember seeing his name on a cover once.

Can he write worth a damn?
Tomasi is a great writer. Originally Green Lantern Corps was the stronger of the Green Lantern books until more recently, and a lot will say that it is still better than the flagship Green Lantern title (and I certainly won't argue it because while I currently like Green Lantern better, Green Lantern Corps is still a damn good title).

Vixen and Ice Maiden were great characters. And I love all those who you list so casually as "Dull".

I'll give you Vibe and Orpheus though. Even I wasn't bothered when they died.

And god alone knows how he managed that. He's the most tedious creation currently appearing in modern comics. Every time I look at his face I have the urge to tear it from his head.

Then DC had better put another writer on the character. NOW. Not "Later" or "Soon".

I would sooner commit seppuku with a rusty blade than pay money for an issue of Green Lantern. But I've read his Nightwing stuff and it was good. So yeah, I'd be happy to see him as the writer on the title.

Green Lantern, Green Lantern Corps, Batman & Robin, Secret Six, Detective Comics, and R.E.B.E.L.S. are some of the best comics on the stands right now. Cry for Justice sucked, but Krul is doing a good job with Rise and Fall. And asides from the recent issue of Adventure Comics, the Superman titles have been pretty damn good. Really, the only complaint that I have towards DC is how they treat their team titles with inconsistent rosters and bad writers.

I'm loving almost everything DC puts out right now, especially batman and robin, secret six, and the green lantern titles. Great stuff, I look forward to it every wednesday.

Vixen and Ice Maiden were great characters. And I love all those who you list so casually as "Dull".
I think you and I are thinking about different Icemaidens. I love Tora, but I find Sigrid pretty crappy.

And my hatred of Vixen knows no bounds. :argh:

Maybe because Green Lantern is actually.....good :awesome:

Then DC had better put another writer on the character. NOW. Not "Later" or "Soon".
With your attitude of just having another writer on Batwoman, we'll probably get Adam Beechen or Bruce Jones on her. I'd rather wait for Rucka to come back or DC take as long as necessary to get someone good like Gail Simone to write her.

I would sooner commit seppuku with a rusty blade than pay money for an issue of Green Lantern. But I've read his Nightwing stuff and it was good. So yeah, I'd be happy to see him as the writer on the title.
Green Lantern is great. The only people complain about the book are zealous Hal Jordan haters who feed my feelings that Kyle Rayner fans are the worst comic book fans in fandom.

We'll agree to disagree. The only titles you mention that I enjoy out of all that are Detective Comics, Secret Six and Batman & RObin. The rest I consider the worst kind of garbage.

I won't apologise. Geoff Johns is a hack and nothing will dissuade me from that opinion. I have heard him described as DC's answer to Brian Bendis. This is most apt.

They are both awful writers who's work sells well for some godforsaken reason

Don't you dare call R.E.B.E.L.S. garbage :cmad:

And frankly, it looks more like you're just simply calling Green Lantern garbage without even reading them. You've even admitted that you don't read Green Lantern Corps.

Bendis is good for the most part as well

I think you and I are thinking about different Icemaidens. I love Tora, but I find Sigrid pretty crappy.

No, I know who you mean. We are talking about the character who Nuklon had a crush on and who was skinned alive in a abysmal two parter in JSA classified. Yes?

But I love Tora as well. She's like a puppy.

And my hatred of Vixen knows no bounds. :argh:

Why? She's not an absolute favourite of mine but I find her entertaining enough to read about. I probably wouldn't buy an ongoing starring her but she isn't nails down a chalkboard levels of bad.

Maybe because Green Lantern is actually.....good :awesome:

That's a lie and you know it.

Adam Beechen on the title would compel me to kill. So no, not Beechen. But there are plenty of good writers available. Tomasi is the best choice. Maybe Morrison. I'm so-so on that.

And I am not willing to wait. She's the only high profile gay character DC has got. They took THREE *****ING YEARS to finally put her in the spotlight. I'm not waiting another three because they lack anything resembling a backbone

Green Lantern is great. The only people complain about the book are zealous Hal Jordan haters who feed my feelings that Kyle Rayner fans are the worst comic book fans in fandom.

No, I don't really have any great love for Kyle either. Though I don't hate him like I do Hal.

I just find Hal to be the most boring character ever conceived. The plots I find to be cliched and uninspired affairs. And Dullest...sorry, Blackest Night was simply appaling. Zombies rise. Eat hearts. Emotions good! Necrophillia bad. Lather rinse repeat.

No no. I said that I do not pay money for it. Something quite different.

I have read it on occasion. I'm not that old internet ciche of "Complaining about comics you don't read" I promise you. I have read Green Lantern. And I've hated it. Postively hated it.

Bendis is good for the most part as well

A thousand times no. Reading Secret Invasion was the most painful experience of my life. And from me that is really saying something.

Ultimate Spiderman was alright I guess. Not outstanding but...readable. Sometimes. Maybe.

Yes that one. I don't like her.

I just find her so dull, boring, generic, and token with a crappy power set and she just completely wastes space in the Justice League that could be given to better characters like Aquaman.

That's a lie and you know it.
Nope :oldrazz:

I'm willing to wait, I want a Batwoman book done right. Not a Batwoman book put out just for the sake of being put out. That would kill an excellent character IMO.

No, I don't really have any great love for Kyle either. Though I don't hate him like I do Hal.

A Hal hater that doesn't result to made up arguments of how Kyle is constantly getting screwed over? My mind has been blown :wow:

Seriously, I don't think I've ever seen a person complain about "boring" Hal Jordan without being a Kyle fanatic

Sure Batwoman is the big news involving Rucka at the moment but they announced that he's working on a project with Williams described as Blade Runner meets Blake 7.

So....**** Batwoman that sounds so much better. :awesome:

Huh? There's several posters who dislike Hal without being a Kyle fanatic. You just seem to think that anyone who dislikes Hal and like Kyle is automatically a 'Kyle fanatic'.

Bendis' problem is that he strays into genres that he's not the best at. His works on Daredevil, Alias/the Pulse, and early issues of Ultimate Spider-Man are great. But when he goes into more traditional superheroic territory (Avengers, forcing Spider-Woman down our throats) the results vary.

His traditional superhero books are more like great ideas, flawed execution (at best).
