Worst Cases of Miscasting

Curse you internet!!! every other page Ive seen lately has it as Tim...hate has blinded us all

My point is how would you feel if Arnie was swinging Mr. Collins out there for all the world to see??

I'd be fine with it. After all, big blue penis didn't make me like Watchmen any less. I'm not squeemish that way.

Johnny Depp as Willy Wonka. I think he could have been great in the role, but the choices he made for the character ran that film right into a wall.

I think Ed Harris was intitially asked to play Alan Grant but did something else or Spielberg changed his mind. He was better suited for Alan Grant but I liked Sam Neil.

I still think Spielberg broke the action movie mold along with Cameron with JP. It's still one of my favorites.
I read that Harrison Ford & William Hurt were both offered the role of Grant and both declined.

Any of those guys would have been better than Sam Neill. Don't get me wrong... Neill is a great actor, but he's much more suited to more sinister roles. He was awesome in The Tudors and Memoirs of an Invisible Man.

Leonardo DiCaprio as Howard Hughes

Chatwin sucks. I remember being super-pissed when it was revealed that he survived at the end of War of the Worlds. That film sucked anyway, but it could have redeemed itself a little by killing him off.

Others...

Van Damme - Guile in Street Fighter (just... painful)

Tyler Hilton as Elvis Presley in Walk the Line (loved the movie, but Hilton didn't look, act or sound like Elvis AT ALL)

Kate Bosworth as Lois Lane

Jennifer Garner as Elektra

Tommy Lee Jones as Two-Face

Hayden Christensen AND Jake Lloyd as Anakin Skywalker

Adam Sandler as an NFL quarterback in The Longest Yard

Agreed I mean come on Hollywood suspension of belief can only go so far.

Phoenix in Walk the Line. C'mon Hollywwod, Johnny never looked that baby faced in his life.

may not be the worst but: Audrey Tautou in Da vinci code....

tautou.jpg

seemed nice at the beginning but ended up being bad (sorry for Audrey who is a far better actress than that)!

obviously, the producers/director only knew ONE french actress

But... he was brilliant in the role. At least I thought so. He deserved an oscar a hell of a lot more than Reese Witherspoon did.

not exactly......it's been reported they met a lot but chose Audrey in the end which was a mistake to me !

Agreed.

He may have not looked just like him but I'll take performance including one where he actually plays the guitar and sings over 100% looks any day of the week.

This reminds me of the time I was watching a documentary on John Carpenter.

For the role of Elvis on an early 1979 tv film on him, he had a choice between a guy who looked almost like Elvis, but couldn't act, and Kurt Russell, who looked almost nothing like Elvis.

Good thing he chose Kurt Russell, a guy he'd be working with many more times in his directing career.

Yeah, I have a lot of respect for a guy like Phoenix who actually sang and played guitar as well as acted in the role... I remember seeing an interview with his where he discussed how he studied Cash's unusual strum pattern. That's a lot of commitment by an actor... he may not have looked all that much like him, but he was still amazing.

Kristen Dunst as Mary Jane in Spider-man.
Jessica Alba as Susan Storm (I like her but she really looks nothing like Sue).
Tommy Lee Jones as Two-Face Dent.
Kate Bosworth as Lois Lane.
Nic Cage as Johnny Blaze.

Yeesh. This thread is really starting to run around in circles.

I have a feeling that Seth Rogen as the Green Hornet will soon make this list.

Not that I care at all for TGH, but the thing is... Rogen is miscast in any role where he's not just playing himself.
