Worst Cases of Miscasting

I'm sorry, but I have to disagree. Kilmer's voice--as both Batman and Bruce Wayne--was horrible.

"Tell me doctor, do you like the thircusth?"

"'R'? What's dat ssssthand for?"

He did look the part of Bruce Wayne though and was arguably in the best shape of the three.

hahahaha, Yep, Kilmer is the one and only BATHMAN. His lisp annoyed the crap out of me in that movie. One of the many reasons why I feel he was miscast as Batman. He might have looked the part, but that's all I can say for him. I seriously think he is one of the most overrated actors of all time. I've liked him in a couple movies, but for the most part, he comes off like driftwood to me. He was the worst Batman, IMO. I think that even if BF hadn't been a turd of a film, he still would have made it suck.

Michael Keaton was great as Batman. Too bad it somewhat ruined his career.

Keaton turned down all sorts of big parts after BATMAN largely because he wasn't happy about the decrease in his privacy that being A-list meant (for example tabloid stories that claimed that Keaton had an affair with Michelle Pfeiffer whilst making BR). The guy had a family and wanted his life intact so, on purpose, he disengaged himself from the 'big leagues' so to speak.

My only real issues with Goode were: 1. he looked too young (I gather that his experiments allowed him to retain his youth, but I still think they should have aged him at least a little bit and 2. they made it a bit too obvious that he was the antagonist. In the book, I wouldn't exactly say it was shocker that he was the bad guy... but you shouldn't be saying to yourself, "Oh, that guy is guilty as hell," after one scene.

So, really, these things aren't really Goode's fault, although you could venture that he was miscast simply for looking too young.

People knock Keanu a lot, but I thought he's been well-cast in plenty of movies. Bill & Ted obviously, but I also thought he was perfect for Neo in The Matrix. He sucked in the sequels, but that was due to horrible dialogue and overall mediocre storytelling, more than anything else. I also thought he was great in Speed, Point Break, The Replacements and The Watcher. He suited each of those films well, IMO.

That's not to say that he hasn't been miscast. He should definitely avoid period pieces, because he sticks out like a sore thumb (Dracula, Dangerous Liasons, Little Buddha).

Agree.

He definately gets a lot of undeserved flack. Sure, he's been downright wooden in some films but for Haff to say that he's mis-cast in all of them is beyond harsh. I look at it this way - can anyone imagine Neo, Ted and Special Agent Johnny Utah being played by anyone else?

I know I cant.

Keanu was also really good in The Devils Advocate.

Same here. I still cringe at the thought of Will Smith playing Neo (which supposedly almost happened). If it had, there would have been three movies that would have sucked, instead of just two. That might not sound like much, but the first film was very, very good. I still consider it a modern sci-fi/action classic, regardless of where the story went from there.

Can't remember if anyone brought this one up yet or not (I might have)... Dominic Purcell as Dracula in Blade Trinity. Hands down the all time worst depiction of Dracula I've ever seen. He was totally wrong for the part, and man, was the character written horribly. I hate that movie so much.

completley agree with you, that dracula played like a henchman more then an actual threat, plus he was really short for dracula. triple h was more imposing then him for crying out loud. parker posey was also miscast in that one, she came off like a vampire comedian.

Agreed that was terrible. Saying that there have been other horrible Dracula castings.

Gerard Butler in Dracula 2001 anyone?

Mila Kunis in Book of Eli.

So it's a movie set in the a dystopian future yet she looks like she walked out of some big fashion store. Not to mention her acting sucked horribly in that movie.

Yeah, Dracula 2000 would be my runner-up for that category. Though I've heard Dracula 3000 is even worse.

I also felt Butler was miscast in Phantom of the Opera. Acting-wise he didn't do too bad, but the key to that role is finding an actor whose singing voice is practically angelic. Butler wasn't as bad of a singer as some critics made him out to be, but he didn't possess the vocal ability needed to carry that role effectively. I think that Joel Schmuck-er cast him because his voice has a rough, dissonant and ugly quality to it that I guess he felt reflected the Phantom character... but that's kind of missing the point entirely. The Phantom's appearance is hideous... but his voice should be amazing.

She was even worse in American Psycho 2, or as I like to call it, Jackie the Ripper.
