Worst/Hated use of CGI in movies

it was nominated for an Oscar for best Visual Effects for God's sakes.

and the dude also made a sly comment about the CGI artists that I didn't like. It just sounds so arrogant.

The CGI in Benjamin Button was actualy pedestrian and poorly recieved. I was perfectly disappointed by the lackluster performance of the unskilled digital effects artists who worked on that film.
 Uhh...BB had some of the best Ive seen.

SUPERMAN RETURNS.

/end thread

How is it that Superman: The Movie, which was made in the late 70s, looks more practical than a film in 2006? A big waste of money. Smallville, which is on a television budget, is also better.

keep it mind..that this isn't just the 'bad CGI thread'.

This is the thread for CGI being misused. Just also point out why you think it's bad and why practical effect should have done the job instead.
I just don't agree on certain thing that people have mentioned, like Two-Face in Dark Knight. You HAD to use CGI. So this is not a place to condemn this technology but rather, trying to see the good out of it.

For example, in Angels & Demons, they used a fake looking greenscreen for the Vatican instead of building a practical set.

the first screencap. i think noone noticed that this was CGI ni the theater. of course after 3 years and a blu-ray you notice more and more

Unless the CGI is just blatant, you never notice unless you freeze frame and look realllllllly hard at an image.

That's Sony Imageworks for ya. but they're so quick though that even I didn't notice it too much.

I mean if you look at something like a Garfield or an Alvin and the Chipmunks, you can say that CG is bad because those characters are originally cartoons, but I give the CG geeks credit for attempting to make them look somewhat plausible. If you saw a cat that looked like Garfield in real life you'd probably **** yourself, but in that universe, he's just accepted. I want to see what this new Yogi Bear is going to look like personally.

True.

I've always kinda defended the looks of Garfield/Alvin/etc. (Though I did mentioned that the new direct to DVD Scooby looks better than the old CGI Scooby)

I hope that Yogi will sound like Yogi and not..Jason Lee. haha. Yogi's voice is too iconic now that they can't change it.

I didn't even notice how bad the CGI was in Superman Returns. It's.....pretty bad. Why couldnt they just use a green screen instead?

since you didn't notice it before Arya, then the movie magic worked!

What is confusing about that?

I looked at the images posted above and noticed how bad it was. I only saw SR once about a year ago and I didn't notice it then. However, now I do.

And yes....the movie magic did work.

So in other words, they got you.

well you are in a thread about CGI and you see screencaps from the movie. your brain automatic screams to you ''fake''.

i noticed that bad cgi in SR... its another one of those spidey moments where they couldve just shot it in greenscreen.

i mean, by just looking at the screencaps, yes I would say that they look like a Playstation game. But they move so fast in the movie, that I guess it doesn't matter. Unless there were closeups of the CGI model.
