Worst/Hated use of CGI in movies

yeah, the so-called vampires in i am legend was a totally needless use of cgi. as a matter of fact, 90% the the cgi in the movie was unnecessary. given how the plot was laid out it was begging for practical work.

I competely agree. That movie should've been much smaller but most importantlt quieter. It was too damn loud! When i read the book what really made an impression was how silently it all played out in my head. Actually, i wouldnt even've bothered with a score. Just let a nice tense silence fill the theaters for two hours.. Freak everyone out.

it seems as if the movie was trying to fulfill some some of action quota. from the cg mustang to the cg animals to the cg mutants, everything looked like it was done with the intention of keeping people in their seats since the majority is will smith talking to his dog and his mannequin community. i think the movie should not have been as big as it was but instead very stifling and closed in. for example, the scene where he's in the dark looking for his dog was great but the scenes where the mutants were flooding the street just took me completely out of the movie due in the impracticality of it all.

What about the original Jurrasic Park movie?.

It was a perfect blend of animatronics and CGI its been nearly 20 years later since its release and those modern documentarys on tv about the prehistoric period still look crap in comparison.

T2 are Jurassic Park (IMHO) are the perfect example of how you do special effects -- they still look pretty damn good 15-20 years later.

At the time they were pretty revolutionary, though. Back in 97, Spawns special effects were pretty much the only reason to go see it. And i think you're exaggerating about Blade, i watched it a few weeks ago and it still stands up pretty well.
In fact, the only real bits that take you outta the movie are the occasional tendencies of Snipes to stop and pose like an action figure intead of, y'know... Act.
But hey, It was the 90's! We're talkin about a decade that made A-List stars of not only Jean Claude VanDamme but Steven Seagal as well.

Agreed. Have you seen 28 days later? thats how you do a zombi type creature good makeup and rely on the actors realistic movement to carry the scene.

I loved the first two blade movies but i agree the CGI is pretty poor at times. when they go back to basic makeup e.g with the grossly obese librarian (forgot his name) thats when the film is great but parts like the COMPLETELY POINTLESS switch to CGI, then back to Snipes and stunt fighters, during the amazing fight with the two ninja vampires at the start of Blade 2 thats when i wish CGI was never invented.

Yeah, it's funny you say that, i had 28 Days Later in mind when i wrote that post. Love that movie!

Spawn is another example the highlight of the movie should be the Malbolgia scenes but they are crap and again basic makeup techniques and good acting triumpth with John Leguizamo who was amazingly cruel and funny as Clown/Violator.

Yeah...Blade 2's opening fight scene...generally the first thing i thing of on this subject.

And the Hulk scene where the explosion stopped and paused for a second like a comic book panel...that second of film ruined the movie (which is fine, since the ending sequence would have done that anyway)

Blade 2: Scene where Blade and vampire were fighting in front of the flood lights.

Mummy 2: The Scorpion King was atrociously bad.

Matrix Reloaded: The 100 Agent Smith scene,just looked bad at times,plus I would rather they used more wire-work for Neo in that scene would of made it tons better.

The Blade 2 floodlights fight is horrendous. I've seen more convincing effects in some video games.
Have you ever listened to Del Toros commentary on the DVD? He openly berates the scene...

Spawn could have avoided being mentioned here if at least they hadn't had that CG cape. I know Spawn's Cape is super huge and everflowing, but the caped ALWAYS looked fake in it.

i like the CGI cape. its a sylistic choice. they were able to art direct teh cape. and for that i give them respect.

Back in the day everyone liked the cape. That scene was plastered all over the trailers and tv spots... It only looks bad now because FX have come so far since... I myself, remember sitting in the theatre in 97, and having my little 11 year-old mind blown by it...
