Days of Future Past Worst moments in 'X-men: First Class'

Outside of the funny bits that intended to get laughs, I saw some laughs during my viewings from the scene where Xavier reads Emma's mind, and discovers what Shaw's plan is. The scene of him cheesily standing in front of the map as missiles fly all over the place and mushroom clouds start going off got quite a few "WTF????" laughs from the audience. I facepalmed. That scene was epic bad. Worse than the Halle line in X-Men bad.

Just seen First Class, and have to say I loved every minuted of it - far better than Thor IMO.
Anyway, the only scene/s I didn't like in the whole film were the scenes of Banshee flying - especially when he comes out of the water near the end - looked exactly what they were... clumsy wire work! Totally unconvincing! That said, it was the only problem I had with the film.

And dario - can't say I see what you're talking about. It's brief either way. I'd prefer 'clumsy wire work' over obvious CGI any day, I love realistic flying as it draws you in much more than the CGI. Superman Returns makes me cringe for that reason.

I just thought it was uber cheese ball. It was part of the whole "vintage 60's" that Vaughn was going for, and I didn't like the vintage 60's aspect of the movie.

I think the worst part for me is when Erik is trying to move the satellite. I love the scene but when he's being serious and then springs into jazz hand mode just makes me cringe. I don't know why really. But it's just that one second. Rest of the scene was great.

I never cared much about Mystique until this movie, but did they make her too sympathetic?
If they continue on and make it not connected to the other films then I guess it doesn't matter much they can make Mystique a more sympathetic character who sometimes seems caring,
but if its meant to tie into the others then she goes form being such a sympathetic character to being almost heartless.
Later on when she tries to kill Xavier it seems off, and plus if [BLACKOUT]Xavier didn't let her go [/BLACKOUT]she wouldn't have become bad.

I don't know, I get what you're saying, but it makes sense to me.

I know from personal experience how a difference in ideology can fracture a relationship. There is a span of 30-40 years between X-Men: First Class and X-Men, plenty of that time for that relationship to continue to fracture (by comparison I have had relationship fracture over a matter of months due to ideology - relationships probably even stronger than Mystique and Xavier).

Plus, while she obviously went after Xavier in X-Men, I never took it as her trying to kill him. There's that, and the fact that she DID show concern for Xavier when she learned that Stryker was targeting his school. I think that scene in the Oval Office is a little more fitting now with the inclusion of that relationship.

I mean, I wasn't a fan of the creative choice to make Xavier and Mystique old friends that grew up together, but I did feel it was well done, and I think it's easy enough to fill in the blanks that it doesn't feel out of place.

All thats true, (I don't remember her concern in X2 but its been a while since I saw it.) But my main concern was that in the comics Mystique was always sort of heartless. They went into her past and showed that she was always sort of heartless and manipulative and cutthroat. But in this story she is very sympathetic and not cut throat. Its a little hard to see her becoming that cut throat.
But again, her character I guess does fit with other stuff they had her do in the other movies (except for her kidnapping Rogue and trying to sacrifice her in X-Men, and laughing about it with Magneto.)
Perhaps she will, in the sequels, show Mystique to be a more sympathetic person or show how she became so hard edged.

Give me practical effects any day! It looked more realistic and it helps with the acting too, interacting with the actual environment - wind and being suspended in the air and whatnot.

I also don't think Mystique was trying to kill Xavier in X1, just debilitate him from using cerebro....
