Yeah, it's a B-Film for the sake of being a B-film. Sometimes those are made and it's considered genius to make a bad movie. It's weird and dumb, but whatever. It's not to be taken seriously.
There is this great quote in Ghost Dog: Way of the Samurai, that goes something like...'Matters of great importance, should be taken lightly, while lighthearted matters should be taken very seriously.'
Now, what that means is, that when you are faced with a matter of great importance, it is wiser to laugh in the face of it, it lessens the chance of you panicing, and messing it up...whereas, if you take something like inane chit chat and banter seriously, you could become the funniest and most interesting person in the room....
See, you can study what may be very interesting subjects, you can read every book in existance, but that ain't gonna make you interesting necesarily, in fact, it could do the opposite, esp if you have a big ego about such things.
Anyone with half a decent brain can regurgitate facts and have an opinion on them.
Now, if you apply that sensibility to a silly stupid movie, then you could end up with something as sublime as The Marx Bros...there will have been umpteen 'serious' writers of that era who'll be long forgotten...while the genius of the Marx Bros will live on forever, why? Because the Marx Bros took their 'silly' art very seriously.
they were ahead of their time, not everyone 'got them', there would have been a lot of jealous comedians who couldn't compete and would belittle their achievements, and then you would get shortsighted numbskulls who had no idea what they were about, and were too scared to face up to the possibility that they were beyond their ken.
so, if you are gonna make a movie about a giant tire, then you best be taking it seriously, because then you just might end up making a work of genius.
