Would a movie without Superman, Batman and Wonder-Woman work?

It could. Personally I would love to see a movie with the "League within the League" as Brad Metzler puts it. That would be:

Flash (Barry)
GL (Hal)
Green Arrow
Black Canary
Atom
Hawkman
Zatanna

I think that would be cool.

Sure it would. Would it sell as well? That's a bit more debatable. I certainly wouldn't mind either way, to me the trinity is Cos, Lightning Lad, and Saturn Girl anyways.

It could work but not having the 3 would suck a bit cause they could draw more people in with the 3 then the 2/3 stringers.

Maybe but they would bring in more people, even if you just had one of them.....:brucebat:

These are minor characters and would have to rely on some really great writing and realy great actors to sell at all. I serioulsy doubt that this would work with out the big three, since they will be expected to be in there by most.

Yea that live action justice league pilot was utter crap, i have it on dvd and what a waste it is. A big selling point for the film would be to have the big 3.

Not for me it wouldnt.

Yeah, it wouldn't do very well though. They NEED the big three for the box office success.
Anyways:

Martian Manhunter
Green Lantern (Hal)
Flash (Barry)
Green Arrow
Black Canary
Aquaman
Hawkgirl

or Hawkman
Atom
or
Zatanna

yea it could be a good film but having the big 3 as i and others said would be a big letdown cause those 3 could draw in viewers to see the film and have more marketing on them and all that.

I agree. I would LOVE to see a movie like that, but being realistic...it would SUCK at the box office. Seriously, people only care about Marvel and the only DC guys they would care about at all would be the big 3. Sad but true.

People care about marvel because they made movies. I think a movie without the trinity would work very well. A movie with the trinity would work even better. By the logic that the name itself sales, then B&R and Superman Returns should have kicked ass. I think Green lantern and the Flash could boomerang this movie. Basically remove the trinity and the second trinity(flash,Aquaman/Martian Manhunter,Green lantern) aka remove the STAR, and you probably got a lack luster box office. Id be all up for a movie without the trinity since that means it isnt a batman/superman/wonder woman movie. Martian Manhunter clearly replaces superman and the Flash is your detective. Black canary is your wonder woman.

Why bother? Would you make a movie about the 1992 Dream Team without Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson, or Larry Bird? Would you make a first X-Men movie without Cyclops, Xavier, or Wolverine? They tried to make an Avengers cartoon without Iron Man, Cap, or Thor, and it sucked.

You don't make a team movie without the biggest and most famous members of the team, the ones that everyone wants to see.

Clark:

That Avengers cartoon would have still sucked if Thor, Cap and Iron Man were in it, too.

Well, it working depends on more than a few things. I think it COULD work, but it'd be tricky to manage.

On the other hand there are no good reasons not to have them if you OWN ALL THE CHARACTERS!

Would it work? Perhaps, would I want to see it? Not really. It would depend heavily on the talent involved. It's possible to make a great movie without them, but why would you want to?

Not at all. To me this is the Justice League, plus Red Tornado, Zatanna, and Plastic Man

Exactly. I know they wouldn't miss my money, but I'd have zero interest in it without the big 3.
Heck, i'd settle for just two of the three.
So if they wanted to leave Batman out for obvious reasons, i'd still see it with Supes and W.W. there.

I don't believe it would work.

It really depends what you mean by would it work.

If you mean would it be a good movie, I'm sure in the right hands it would be. Green Lantern, Flash, Zatanna and the others are all great characters which is why they've lasted so long and I'm sure if the director had the right vision for them, he could make an amazing movie without using the big three. So yes it could be a good movie without them.

Now if you're talking about how commercially successful it would be, I think that's a different story. Certainly here in the UK Green Lantern and the others are nowhere near as well known as Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman by the non comic book reading public. So I doubt it would be commercially successful without the big three to support the film.

Personally I'd rather have them in it than not.

yea i totally agree without the big 3 it could be a good film but using the big 3 is a good way to get people behind the film.

JL might work without Batman and Superman but I don't see it without WW.

A WW solo could lead into it if it was successful so her presence would get the public interested.

It wouldn't get as many people interested at first unless either of the Big Two could, though. Its best chance would be if it was a TDK masterpiece but the chances of that are slim to none.

Another option could be to get Green Lantern, Flash, WW and Green Arrow established in one film each then put them in JL where Martian Manhunter makes his first movie appearance.

It's a tough call, but I honestly don't see it working.

As quoted by the Simpsons.
"Now a few more details about this year's company picnic. It's at the plant, no food will be served, the only activity will be work, and the picnic is cancelled."
