Comics Would creating another special offensive move take away from the Fastball Special?

Should other characters have a chance to create their own special move?

  • Yes... A new move should be created with two different characters.

  • No... It would be disrespectful & redundant of the current Fastball Special.

  • Not sure if any of the writers could pull it off.

  • This might be the dumbest idea ever...

I liked the fact that Carey included a fastball special in his recent issue, but it also got me thinking about other team members collaborating together and coming up with a trademark move of their own. And Cyclops has always asked his team members to work together in defeating a foe by combining their abilities to some degree, but none of them ever developed into anything substancial enough to stick with them on other occasions.

But the thing about Wolverine and Colossus, is that they share a certain kind of bond, yet they are almost two complete opposite personalities. And yet somehow, their Fastball Special has transcended over the decades to present time.

Brubaker, Whendon and Carey are fantastic writers, but do you think they could pull off creating the same kind of comradery Wolvie and Colossus share by having any of their their current characters create a new offensive/defensive move that could compete with the "fastball special"?

Not only would it create a bond between the characters that do the move together, but the writer and the move will be remembered for decades from now.

...What do you guys think?

The fastball special is a joke.
Its been overused into a Cliche

Well first let's take a look at the Variations of the Fastball Special.

Thrower/Projectile

Colossus/Wolverine
Juggernaut/Wolverine
Wolverine/Colossus (On the Moon)
Juggernaut/Nocturne
Rockslide/X-23 (I maybe Imagined that one)

I can't think of any more but I know I have seen way more combos than this.

Now as for some other combos that might work.....

Gambit Charging Colossus' Fists
Nightcrawler teleporting Cyclops all around an enemy while Cyclops Shoots
Kitty Phasing Wolverine's claws into an anemy and letting him get himself out
Storm causeing rain and Iceman Icing the hell out of everything
Iceman Icing up and Enemy and Gambit Charging the Ice

Combos that have been done:

Thunderbird III Shooting Bishop to charge Bishop more
Angel dropping Wolverine into Battle

I'm not talking about reinventing the Fastball Special with other X-Men... I'm talking about two entirely different X-Men creating their own special move. The fastball special has been around for decades... It's about time two other X-Men came up with their own special kind of move. Whatever it may be.

That's all I'm saying.

Let's not forget...

Thing/Wolverine
Warbird/Wolverine
Spider-Man/X23

It's an overused maneuver.

Emma is crystal. Is it feasible that she could refract/amblify energy-based attacks?

Heaven forbid you could read my second post.

Yeah, Cyck could shoot through emma and his beam would be sent all over the place taking out the whole room....I think I actually saw that once.

I think I did too.

Of course, as long as it's not called Prismatic Special or any crap like that, it can remain cool.

I think Cyke has aimed a beam at Colossus, or Wolvie's claws for a ricochet effect... I could be imagining that.

That was Colossus's forehead, in an issue of Ultimate X-Men. During the Mr. Sinister storyline.

thanks

i liked that arc, despite the way they made sinister SO pathetic. but i digress.

I liked it because it was a nice change of pace. They really exercised their right to make an Ultimate Counterpart different because they could. They haven't really done that too often.

D'oh :whatever: ...

I can see Iceman creating an ice structure with many smooth surfaces in the center of an area heavily occupied with enemies. The enemies are confused and slowly approach the structure out of curiosity. Then a beam of red light (Cyclops) ignites the ice monolith in all directions, taking out all those that are within it's immediate area.

The problem with Carey's team is that most of the members aren't permanent. So it makes it pretty hard to establish that special kind of relationship like Wolvie and Colossus share, in order to experiment with a signature move. Maybe something with Cannonball, Rogue and Iceman would be the only one's qualified to have that kind of close relationship, let alone come up with something offensively/defensively creative.

Well, Nightcrawler and Rogue did have the "Deathstar Drop". I'd like to see that return.

Fun thread. I wonder if Kitty held on to Cyclops when he let his optic blast go (when he can use his powers agian), if they could just walk through and blast people without ever getting hit?

I thik the optic blasts would be phasing also
Yep i agree.
Otherwise shed just need a gun and shed be the ultimate untouchable killer surely?

but once the bullets left the gun they wouldn't be touching her anymore... so they should be solid again, no?

Youd think, wud make sense. Why doesnt kitty just go round with aa gun or bow and arrow or something?

Too easy? Not her style?

I don't remember if this happened in 616 or Ultimate, but I think it was somewhat recent. Colossus threw Kitty into a sentinel so that she could phase through its electronics.

^ Yeah, but Kitty could just phase after he threw her. I think if Scott gave a good little optic blast and it was realeased, it would would not be "phased" anymore. It would be cool to see though......
