Superman Returns Would the movie had been better if (about the ending)...

Right thing to do to not only make the ending more exciting but get people looking forward to the sequel, is hinting at the potential villain Supe will be facing in the sequel. Have some unknown being landed on the kryptonite island in the space overlooking Earth. You can only see the silhouette of that thing but it'd be something that resembles Braniac, Doomsday, whatever. It'd make people go WOW! and brings a lot of anticipation for the next Supe movie.

nah, i never liked it when shows and movies hinted at the next installment's villains... they used to do that with the Batman TV show in the 60s, when it was on its last leg, and i just found it more annoying than anything else... i prefer films to be primarily self-contained, usually... this idea of letting it appear Superman is dead is good, because it's still a self-contained ending, but when they announce the next movie, people will want to see it because they'll wonder how he survived...

i don't mind sequels that explain away the supposed ending to the previous movie near as much as i hate the idea of movies that hint too much at the next one... ;)

Why does everybody say Superman is in "critical condition" as do the newspapers when his heart is flatlined for like a week? That's not called Critical Condition.

I think a lot of people would've been upset if they ended the movie with Superman dead.

You can't end the movie with Superman dead. Think about it, fans will be waiting probably near 3 years for the next installment. A dead Superman, well that would just be awful.

But see that's kinda the idea...like ending the movie after Superman crashlands into the park would not only catch the audience off guard, but it will get them thinking and anticipating the sequel that much more b/c they'll want to know how he is revived.

Its a very unconventional ending sure, but it would've been interesting.

Still, the ending we got was pretty good too. :)

basically what they should have done was after showing the newspaper headlines, just cut to Lois and Jason in the hospital walking into Superman's room. It seems audiences, at least in America want a movie to wrap up at the most 5 minutes after the big action finale.... anything more than that and they get antsy.

And.... since the ending is the last thing people remember as they leave the theater, the ending may have had an unusally high negative effect on how the autidence felt about the movie as a whole....

They had guts enough to do it in the comics.

yeah this is a movie, not a televsion series. a movie has a beginning and an end. if you arent sure if superman is alive or dead is not an end. regards to cliffhangers, i think the best cliffhanger they could've done was either show some kind of satelite thing land on NK[braniac], show lex holding the piece of kryptonite with blood on it [bizarro] or richard listening to supermans speech to jason[metallo]
