Not to mention the fact he can't speak English.
I cringed when they came out and said that it was indeed a soap opera.
A soap opera is a fake show with actors. It doesn't lead down a path of drugs and painkillers due to a constant beating on the workers bodies, which lead to early deaths. Fans can call it whatever they like, but it's no joke. It's Professional Wrestling.fans have been calling it that for years now....I'm not a fan of the label, but that is what it is
but soaps are dying now so who knows what the next "label" will be
OK, some actors do have drug issues. But the same can be said for every profession if you look hard enough. The point is that there's a direct link with Wrestlers. I'm sure every once in awhile there is the actor dealing with problems, that resorts to drugs to fix their problems. The point still remains is that actors don't take the kind of mental/physical beating that professional wrestlers do. They say their lines and get on with their day. They aren't constantly traveling and having to be away from family/friends. At least not almost every single day of every single year.actors have issues with painkillers and drugs and all of that.....and yes the physical aspects are real, but the storylines are manufactured
and whether you like it or not...to 99 percent of the tv watching audience, professional wrestling IS a joke....when crap like Jersey Shore and Real Housewives gets more attention and respect in the media than wrestling does.....wrestling is the joke
we, as fans, just can't admit it
It's a "joke" except to other athletes who have a lot of respect for WWE wrestlers, even MMA guys have come out and said they could not do what wrestlers do.
But seriously, wrestling is a joke because morons that enjoy Jersey Shore don't respect it? What?
Who cares about perception? I'm talking about reality. Although maybe you're talking about from a business standpoint? Even then I still think it's incredibly disrespectful to the talent.ok....im talking about the PERCEPTION among the viewing audience

I'm not quite understanding. The WWE isn't focusing on reality TV. They're focused on making movies/selling products. Not TV shows. Before this years Tough Enough, there was one back in 2002(I think). They didn't need to sellout to get a deal 9 years ago, why should they now?I am arguing from a business standpoint....and considering how cheap it is to throw a "reality" show out there and make just as much $$$....how would you sell WWE or TNA to a potential sponsor??
because pushing Dolph Ziggler ain't gonna get it done
The vast majority of people are ignorant, the best idea would be to show them exactly what it takes to be a wrestler, instead of trying to pretend it's not wrestling.

The first Tough Enough aired on MTV.which is why I wish they would put Tough Enough on NBC for a couple weeks, I think that would go a long way
I still don't understand how this helps. People make fun of Professional Wrestling and call it fake, so let's prove them right. Let's start calling it a soap opera and calling them Superstars instead of Wrestlers. So let's water down the WWE and make it nothing more than guest host from MTV shows to draw attention. It shouldn't be about the people that put the work into this every single day of their lives, it should be about making a few extra bucks.because the TV landscape has changed dramatically in 9 years, especially in cable....the reality TV genre has proven you DON'T need to spend money on production to see a return, cable channels have focused on original programming (and that has yielded great results for channels like AMC and FX)
and if a channel or network doesn't have to spend money on production, they can charge less for ad space....and advertisers will go with the best deal that gets the most eyeballs seeing their ads
