I heard the movie isn't going to be a continuation of the show's storyline (alien invasion coming in 2012) but a stand alone mid-quel. Is that true? If so, why bother? A stand alone mid-quel is TV movie material. Not cinema movie. We deserve answers.

I think a lot of fans are annoyed with the whole alien conspiracy plot and mythos that never got answered, really. A stand-alone flick is prob best for everyone (including the general public). They likely want to start fresh for those who didn't watch the show that closely. Plus, the stand-alone episodes were some of the best, imo.

The alien stuff was way too confusing and complicated; actually the reason why I stopped watching the show way back when. A stand-alone movie is a much better idea, especially since it doesn't eliminate the potential audience who never watched the end of the show and wouldn't know WTF is going on.

Myself included.

Knowing this movie is coming out really makes me nostalgic. I remember Sunday nights were the best night for TV and Fox ruled my television because it was King of the Hill/Simpsons/Futurama/X-files. That was a solid night of TV! If I had to work on a Sunday night, I would always set my VCR for that 2 1/2 hr block so I could watch it through the week....good times.

Hell, yeah. I am so done with the alien storyline; it peaked at the first movie, for me.

This is the way to go. People (me) really just want to see Mulder and Scully back. Add a good mystery/monster and you've got gold.

I would have to agree with the previous posts.

When the mythology became overbearing and complicated, the series really took a hit. FOX milked the series for all it was worth, and it ended up hurting the series in the end. The series worked best when the mythology wasn't so forthright, but rather mysterious and broad. The "monster of the week" and other quirky episodes is what really gave the X-Files its cult status.

For Chris Carter and company, there is a need to attract a "new generation" of fans. The kids who grew up hearing about the X-Files, but never truly experienced it. For older fans, nostalgia will overtake any trepidation they may have about the series' conclusion. The series has been gone long enough that people will easily forget the muddled ending and will gladly welcome Mulder and Scully back. I think Chris Carter is doing the right thing, because the spirit of the X-Files was nowhere to be found in those last few seasons. But if Carter is able to scare us, make us laugh, and most importantly, make us think, the film will have been a success.

So anybody have an idea when we might see a Poster or Trailer?

Well Scully can't die, would be interesting if they went into that part of the narrative a little more....

Yeah.
Can't wait to see Mulder and Scully back together!!
Hope the movie doesn't suck, lol.

Finished off the episodes of the box-set now! TIme to hit special features, although a lot of what is covered in the final episode undoes the things from the series. They make out as if sculy's baby is just an alien baby, when it's more like a miracle 'jesus' figure.

Yeah, well Scully's daughter be a part of the new film at all?

Chris Carter said it takes place after the series, didn't he?

That would be weird since it's just a standalone. I would imagine it doesn't really have a solid place in the timeline at all, just a movie version of an X-Files standalone episode.

Which I guess could be weird since David Duchovny looks much older now. But I care not!
