I have just returned from watching X-Files: I Want to Believe, it wasn't a bad movie but it wasn't as good as the first motion picture. As far as it being a stand alone movie it works, you don't need to be a fan of the series to understand what's going on, however there are references made from the series that the fans will notice. It's a very morally driven movie, Mulder and Scully, just like the series, has their differences and they bounce off each other. The two new agents Drummy (Xzibit) and Whitney (Amanda Peet) kind of represent what Fox and Dana were when the series began, Whitney being the believer while Drummy the non-believer. They all bounce off each other with their morals and beliefs, the problem is sometimes the whole moral aspect gets in the way of the story and slows it down. There isn't much in the way of action, just a couple of chase scenes here and there but they don't feel forced. Billy Connolly played a believable roll, he was used well as a focus point for the belief system.
I was kind of hoping for a more complex plot, after the long break from when the series finished it would have been nice give the fans something for there trouble but didn't quite deliver. As an old school fan I really wanted to like this movie, it was great to see Mulder and Scully back but it just wasn't enough. I'll give it a 2/5.
