X-Men: Destiny Thread - Part 1

What's your take on Density Control and Shadow Matter?

My first play was Aimi with Density Control, and I thought it was pretty powerful, given that it was obviously intended as bruiser melee combat. Chucking the exploding sticky rocks was fun, too.

But now I've played through with Shadow Matter, and oh my balls, it destroys things so hard. Much harder, and faster, than Density Control did.

Energy Manipulation I've found pretty weak, to be honest, but I haven't gotten any Destiny choices with it yet.

I found Density Control with Aimi the weakest...IMO...maybe it's my choice of traits (again all Juggs)...I'm still fairly early on with this set, think I'm gonna switch offensive to Pyro

...on the other hand, Energy Manipulation with Adrian (still real early on, I don't think I have any traits/genes yet), and the Shadow Matter with Grant (combo again of Offensive Iceman/ Defensive Surge...I'm currently at
the Sentinel Boss Battle
), I was tearing through the game easily...

From a gameplay and maybe strongest to weakest...again IMO...I'll go with Shadow Matter, Energy Manipulation, with Density Control last...

so.....Shadow Matter seems to be the strongest power??

that's cool, cuz that's the power I'd be most interested in........lol

also, just curious........

does this game have some kind of "codex" system that describes the various powers ( and bios the characters )?

like does it describe "how" the Shadow Matter mutation power works??

I rented this game from blockbuster today... it is so damn boring. same thing over and over and over... But i will probably finish it up tomorrow, and try to get as many acheivements as possible, then return it and completly forget about it.

this game is seriously bad.

The set-up I ran with for first-times was Density-Aimi, Shadow-Adrian, and Energy-Grant. I believe I kept the Colossus Offensive on Aimi for most of the game, and Grant currently has that equipped as well. He's really early, right near to the end of Mission 2, but I do have his XY and XXY combos, both of which do jack **** for damage. Even XXXX doesn't do much in the way of damage, whereas Aimi could at least kill stuff with it.

Huh, interesting that we have differing experimental data there. I wonder if there's an unseen stat that makes for a positive or negative correlation between character type and power type.

Finally finished inFamous. Great game. Now whenever they'll finally make another XML or decide to give the Destiny formula another go, I want them to use InFamous as a template.

The way powers work, the boss fights, the free-roaming city, that was all just great. I'll definitely get inFamous 2.

Joystiq gave it 1 1/2 stars out of 5. Wasn't even on my radar but after reading their review... I won't even glance at it when it hits 20.

To be fair, Joystiq is probably the worst review. As they pass off stuff as fact, that isn't entirely true. Doesn't make it less of a mediocre game though.

Oh I know... I normally never base ANYTHING on Joystiqs review... but what I took from it was that it was an unfinished game that both Activision and Silicon Knights should be ashamed for releasing it as is.

I think if Silicon Knights worked on this game anywhere else but Activision it would have been much better. All the ideas are great, the excution is not

Silicon Knights isn't exactly known to be a good developer, in fact I think they specialize in good ideas with bad execution (Too Human, anyone?).

I 100% this game today. Probably played for 11 hours total, and I got really bored of it about 2 hours in.

I was kind of shocked they [BLACKOUT]killed Pixie.[/BLACKOUT] Didn't see that coming.

also,

I didn't under stand how they had so much stuff correct from the comics, but they kind of really messed Pixie all up. No welsh accent, and they had the U-Men/MRD/Purifiers/Bastion taking teleportation powers from her, when they even showed her saying (singing) the spell she has to us to teleport. I don't know why that made me mad.

The shadow powers were kind of cool though, and I did like [BLACKOUT]turning into a flying demon thing[/BLACKOUT] and completly ****ing everyone up.

This game was a lot like Brutal Legend for me, I liked everything about it, but I just hated playing it.

Okay guys, it comes out in Australia this week. I wanted to buy this game, but reviews I've read have turned me away, however you've been playing this game and I to hear what you have to say.

Should I buy this game?

I say rent it first if you can, it's fun, but not the kind of fun in which I feel justified in spending 60. Maybe 20.

I suspect it will be a $20-30 Black Friday item. It doesnt sound like a must buy for X-fans. Rental seems to be the best way to go bc I read it can take you as little as 3 hours to complete in one playthrough with 5 being the upper limit if you go a bit slower. Definetly rental material

Yeah. I mean, I don't mind spending money on a short game, but if it's only 5 hours then those 5 hours better be action packed and thrilling as ****.

yeah.....this definitely doesn't sound like a $60 game.

Does anyone know exactly how many fan costumes there are? And based on who? I've got Colossuss', Wolverine and Pyro already. I only bought the game today so I haven't had much time to play yet; going with Adrian and Shadow Matter while my brother plays Grant with Density Control. Forgot what X-Genes I'm using at the moment.

Bring up the statistics screen in the menu. That'll tell you how many costumes total there are.

As for whose they are, pretty much if they're in the game, you can collect a costume. There are a few costumes of non-game characters, like Psylocke.

Well I did it. I picked up the game for $60aus. I was playing it for about 3 hours last night and I'm impressed with the voice acting, but the rest of the game feels very flat. I was really hoping to enjoy the game a lot more, but sadly everything the reviews are saying seems true.

I'm hoping the game picks up further into the game, but it just seems like it won't change.

I was looking forward to purchasing a nice X-Men game, but after reading all the abysmal & scalding reviews, i'll pass. Perhaps when it's in the bargain bin.....

yeah that would be wise. I remember someone jumped on me for saying Id wait till the reviews came in before deciding on whether to get this day 1 or not. Im glad I waited instead of jumping on it. Definetly doesnt look like its worth a $60 purchase
