WonderCon: 20th Century Fox Executes Bryan Singer PR Control During ‘X-Men: Days Of Future Past’ Panel

While fans were allowed to ask questions to the string of talent from Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes, The Maze Runner and DreamWorks’ How To Train Your Dragon 2 at 20th Century Fox’s WonderCon panel, the one creative talent not fielding questions from the crowd was X-Men: Days Of Future Past writer and producer Simon Kinberg. While a “no questions” policy wasn’t blatantly announced, Fox gracefully saved its X-Men presentation for the final portion of its nearly two-hour panel. And it was brief next to the half-hour-plus devoted to Planet Of The Apes. Kinberg stepped in at the last minute after the studio pulled Bryan Singer in the wake of the director being slammed with a sexual abuse civil lawsuit. Kinberg promised the crowd that he had footage that was never seen before, but that wasn’t the case: He showed the same clip that was on the MTV Movie Awards last weekend with the young X-Men including Kitty Pryde, Colossus and Iceman fighting a rather large latex figure who absorbs their powers. Fox, unlike ABC — which pulled Singer’s name off their Black Box TV spots — kept the filmmaker’s name on the trailer that was shown at WonderCon today. The crowd was unfazed when his name came up on screen.

Egan’s attorney Jeff Herman responded, “I haven’t seen anything he has. We will subpoena the (documents).”
“This was Bryan's first studio film,” Marty Singer said Friday. “Clearly, he's not going to take a break in the middle of this movie while you're shooting and prepping it to go to Hawaii.”
“We have spoken to several witnesses who will place Singer in Hawaii (at the parties) at these times,” Herman said earlier. He would not say whether those witnesses saw the alleged sexual activity.
On Saturday night Marty Singer countered, “We also have over a hundred witnesses who can testify that my client was shooting a movie, and was not on Hawaii.”
He also asserted, “There are very significant consequences when people lie under oath. Perjury is a crime. I can guarantee that if these anonymous witnesses ever come forward and are willing to testify under oath that I will prove them to be liars.”

Honestly, without bias, it's not looking good for Egan's case thus far. No attorney in their right mind would claim to have 100 witnesses and documentation to prove some of these things during a high profile case if they couldn't produce them as well as said evidence.

Singer's attorney (Singer) is basically daring Egan's attorney to force this to a hearing/trial He hasn't been subtle about his lack of confidence that Egan's attorney can work successfully in a trial setting.

One thing that is so fishy to me is that the FBI did come out and say that Egan and his mother met with them in regards to the case, but Bryan's name was never brought up back in 1999-2000 when they were speaking with the FBI.

So they can't use the we went to LAPD and FBI defence when there is proof by the FBI they did and never once mentioned Singer.

I don't think it has anything to do with fans of Singer since there are people who don't particularly care for Singer and still dismiss the claims. We are looking at the facts and evidence, not rumors. And thus far they don't add up.

It hasn't - which is why I used the term "all but been". Various websites have posted reports that Singer targets young, sexually confused males, plies them with money, drugs and alcohol and coerced/seduces them into having sex with him. I think that with this much smoke there tends to be fire. It appears as though FOX Studios has come to the same conclusion.

Which still says nothing. I'm hearing nothing but hearsay accounts about Singer from other people. Hearsay does not provide good evidence, and is generally dismissed. Especially for a crime. Hearsay does not work as evidence because we have no way of knowing whether the person lied to fuel speculation, or simply based their information on wrongful information or even bias. We know stories & mythology can arise from no good information whatsoever. You notice if you go onto to these websites you often see, "Anonymous" or "I know a friend" or "a friend of a friend said". Those are not reliable claims, particularly when the information is derived and spread by other people rather than a identified direct eyewitness themselves. And courts of law do not generally allow hearsay as testimony.

There's also a former Disney actor, Matthew Smith, who just came forward (he's also gay) saying he met Singer when he was 17 through a friend (and known Singer over the next 2 years) and all the times the two were alone (even flying together on a private jet) Singer never attempted to rape him or engage any inappropriate sexual conduct. He says Singer had every opportunity and didn't, which is why he thinks Egan's claims are BS with the focus on money.

Bryan Singer Accuser's Attorney: I Have Witnesses (Exclusive)


UPDATED: Michael Egan’s lawyer says witnesses will disprove a claim that credit card receipts and other documents show that director Bryan Singer wasn’t in Hawaii at the time of alleged sexual abuse of a minor.

“We have spoken to several witnesses who will place Singer in Hawaii (at the parties) at these times,” said attorney Jeff Herman, a Florida lawyer specializing in sexual abuse cases nationwide who is representing plaintiff Michael Egan, III. Herman would not say whether those witnesses saw the alleged sexual activity.

The problem with this is....Egan's attorney is going to have to come up with more concrete evidence, like video surveillance footage perhaps, that places Singer in the area. If all he can do is find people who are willing to say "I saw Bryan Singer..." then that's not enough, particularity when Singer's lawyer can produce documentation as well as witnesses. You'll notice before, Egan's attorney said he WILL be filing additional cases the following week. Now he's saying, “The door is open now,”....“If these investigations pan out, I will be filing many more cases for victims..." Now we know why this is a civil case rather than a criminal case. Things don't add regarding these definitive claims of abuse.

If Singer doesn't return for Apocalypse who would you guys like to see take over as director? Remember that the job would likely go to a journeyman with no input into the script which has either already been written or is currently being written. To make the 2016 date I would imagine the movie would have to start filming later this year.

I have feeling even if the suit falls apart we will be headed to a FC like situation. Singer
stays on as producer and story he devolped with Kinberg and X2 writers will move forward
but a new director is hired to be public face for film.

Inless others will claim singer also raped him egan case becomes he said-he said and Singer has good defense.

I'm so sad for Bryan Singer. One of the failures in our system is anyone can falsely accuse with little or no consequences

How can someone come out and say false claims have been made unless they were there? Until there is actually a court hearing none of us will know. It's all propaganda by both sides at this stage.

Honestly, I was ready to condemn Singer at the time but now that this new evidence in his defense has hit, I'm going to wait for both sides to present their testimony in court.

Here is my observations from reading some news reports, the full filing by Egan and the sections that where available in the FBI Criminal complaint pdf as posted by TMZ. Because of all available documentation, there are issues that arise in egan's story that can make my observations rather confusing.

PLEASE NOTE: IN RELATION TO THE FBI CRIMINAL COMPLAINT DOCUMENTS, EGAN IS “MINOR #4”, SCOTT SHACKLEY IS “YOUNGER BROTHER”, CHAD SHACKLEY [SCOTT’S OLDER BROTHER] IS “SHACKLEY” AND MARK COLLINS-RECTOR IS “RECTOR”

TMZ’s posted FBI criminal complaint document now has Mike Egan at age 15 when he graduated 9th grade in 1998. Thus that means that Mike Egan is now 30 years of age. All reputable news outlets are reporting he is 31 which would then make him 16 at the time of the incidents. TMZ reports that Egan says his mother went to the FBI and LAPD back in 2000 while variety is reporting that it was 1999. The truth now is that both the FBI and the LAPD interviewed Egan on July 20th, 2000. The Hollywood reporter states that he was sexually abused by the X-Men director beginning at age 15 through age 17 as per the press conference. Lets do the math. Most news outlets are running that Egan is 31. Egan said the abuse started at the age of 15, According to the court documents filed by Egan was first taken to estate in "early-mid 1998" but according to the FBI documents “Minor #4 graduated from the ninth grade in May, 1998, at the age of 15. After the graduation ceremonies, the younger brother invited Minor #4 to a graduation party at Shackley’s house located at (the “Encino Estate&#8221. They took a limousine to the party at approximately 9:00 p.m. There were approximately five to six guests at the graduation party including RECTOR and Shackley.” The Abuse started that night. If we go with media reports that he was at the age of 31 would place him at 16 years of age, but the thing is that he claims that he was 15 at the time which would make him 18 in June 2000 to May 2001, when he sued 2 other men including Mark Collins-Rector. The thing is, according to court documents "On more than one occasion, Plaintiff was flown to Hawaii when he was 17 years old. Two of these trips took place on or between August 1, 1999, and October 31, 1999" which means that with his graduation at 15 when the abuse started, its possible for him to be 17 for the two cases of abuse but with no solid birthday this can be assumed and then we could pin point his birthday to August to October. But Egan said the abuse started with Mark Collins-Rector "Approximately 2–3 months" prior to him meeting with Bryan Singer. The Only way for the abuse to have started by Bryan Singer would be when Egan was at the age of 15 would be between August though late September of 1998, even though he first went to estate and met Mark Collins Rector, as the FBI document states May of 1998. That thus means that it is not possible for Egan to be 17 years old on August 1st, 1999. That would place him as being born in 1983 in October and then would he be 17 during on October 31, 1999. Thus it is not mathematically possible for Egan to be 15 years old when the abuse started with Bryan Singer in August though October of 1998 and still be able to be 17 years old for both August 1, 1999, and October 31, 1999 when he was apparently 17. So If he was 15 at the time the abuse started when he met Bryan Singer at the age of 15, I would pin point that to August 1997 though Mid-1998 just to be able to be 17 at the time of August 1, 1999, and October 31, 1999. If we are to use his age as indicated though the FBI document, If he was 15 at the time the abuse started when he met Bryan Singer at the age of 15, he would NOT be 17 for August 1, 1999 as the abuse would of started during the months of August-September when Egan as 15, as a birthday would be in October but then would Egan possibly be 17 for October 31, 1999. I would estimate Mike Egan’s Birthday to be in October of 1983 to be 15 when the abuse started and to still be 17 for the time for October 31st 1999 for an purported incident in Hawaii. It is worth noting that Egan continued working for Shackley until May of 2000 as per the FBI document but in the pages that are available that was about Egan 27,28,30 and 31 (PDF Pages 37-41) there are NO mentions of Singer nor Hawaii. Also in order for him to now be 31 as per the news reports, Egan would have to be born between Late may-mid october of 1983 to be 31 but then not able to be 15 when he was abused by singer, but if he is 31 then his birthday Late may of 1982 to late may of 1983, then he would be 16 when the abuse started. It's also to note that Bryan Singer would be in Canada when X-Men was filming which mind you took place from September 22, 1999 to March 3, 2000 in Toronto and in Hamilton, Ontario, so it would make Singer look bad just from the standpoint of leaving the filming within a month since the start of the filming to go to Hawaii for one week, and leaving the filming for that one week, he would of not directed X2 or Days of Future Past.

I don't think the ages or years is evidence of much considering as you say yourself.... Different sites are listing different things. That's reporting inconsistencies. Not Egan necessarily reporting inconsistencies.

News has a tendancy to mess up like that on occasion and in many cases it because they "play telephone" from either sites on occasion messing up a few facts. That kinda thing isn't going to get Egans report dismissed in court.

This is why i think both sides really shouldn't be talking about much any more until a court date.
