X-Men - Part 4

Every time I was tempted to start reading AvX, someone would mention something incredibly stupid that happened during a recent issue.

Well to be fair it was handled in one of the ongoings, which was better than the main series. Hope and Rachel met in the pages of Wolverine and the X-men, #12 to be exact. The entire issue was told from Rachel's perspective well done by Aaron

Which I am very happy about. I think she has a lot of potential.

I think she's just gonna end up getting killed again, since that seems to be all the Marvel guys think she's good for.

Bendis has said that he literally can't stop writing her and she's going to have a huge focus because she's going to feel everything that has happened through her telepathy. Marvel has constantly said that they are here to stay for a very long time, are the new status quo, and are being treated like any other characters (in terms of where they could potentially appear or guest star someday in other titles).

I just can't see them killing off the most interesting one (which Bendis has already called her). It feels like the whole point of this story was to get a younger Jean without Phoenix/White Hot Room baggage. No one ever talks about any of the other characters.

I have a feeling that at some point in the future, the rest of the O5 will go back to the past and she will remain in the present and "regain" all of 616 Jean's memories and essentially become the same character. The only difference is she wil be trapped in the body of a teenager unless they age her

You know I can see that happening.

but then...she wouldn't be fresh anymore. she would have all the baggage that original Jean has..since she is absorbing it all telepathically. i kinda feel this was the original plan for Hope though. to make her a reincarnated Jean..but why do that when we can just ****e all over continuity and bring young Jean to the present to replace dead Jean?

well that would be the point. Jean carries with her alot of history, history which her fans have followed for decades. This would be a new and unique take to bring her back rather than the typical resurrection and best of all it doesnt involved the Phoenix force bringing her back to life.

but eventually...you KNOW she will reunite with the Phoenix, thus making this whole convoluted 'resurrection' plan null and void.

if we needed a replacement jean this badly..why not bring in an already interesting and developed one from the AoA? Then have her magically absorb the Jean-y goodness of the 616 version that baby jean is doing

Even as a Beast fan, I find it a little hard to swallow that Marvel is going to allow 3 versions of the character to roam the present day 616 universe for too long.

Isn't there like ten Wolverines? Hank is just trying to catch up is all... :p

I dont think thats a valid reason for why Jean shouldnt return. And AoA Jean would be worse to do this bc she has her own history and personality. TeenJean is just an earlier form of current Jean who shares her same background. She carries less complications and would make an easier transition

Interviews can be deceiving and misleading. We'll see if she's still alive & kicking five, ten years from now under the writing of Bendis.

I could see that happening as well. I could also see the current adult Cyclops killing the time displaced teen Jean for some vague reason that vaguely ties into some master plan of his and then shrugging her, what, fourth of fifth death off just to shock fans and continue proving he's just so much darker, grittier and edgier than Wolverine. :cwink:

But if Jean stays in the future, she will never become phoenix, she will never meet Logan back in the day, she will never have done any of the things she will be hearing that she did...

So unless Bendis comes up with some amazing reasoning, this will not make any sense for the O5 to stick around without radically altering the universe, especially Jean.

And I don't have that kind of faith in Bendis.

There's always parallel univers number #### from which they originated from but who's timeline changed due to their leaving so young and never returning. I'm sure that's what the Marvel Handbook guys would say.

Not really. The rules of time travelling can change depending on story but them coming to the future can and will most likely just have created a new timeline, one in which Jean never made it back to the past. To my knowledge AoA is the only time travelling story which had an effect on present day 616. All others just tend to cause the time stream to diverge in a new direction. There is an infinite number of alternate futures and present day 616 is no longer theirs

Unless Legion is involved or Mephisto is there disguised as a little girl & a bird, time travel can't change the future.

Which, you know, makes Bishop's face-heel turn all the more ridiculous, because he of all people should know better.

I miss Bishop...not skrull Bishop ( I call him that because i refuse to believe the real Bishop would ever act as such and is in stasis somewhere in space )

Hell, half of the current X-characters come from alternate universes and timelines. Basically every X-time travel creates a branched off universe with whole new characters to exploit.

It was hinted way the heck back in Uncanny and they kinda dusted it off lately. It all came about when it was suggested that mags coudl keep Rogue from hurting him by way of hsi ability to manipulate magnectic fields. Lame, I know.

They've been attracted to each other since, like.......forever. Like squeekness said, it started with Claremont back around UXM 274-275 and was a recurring plot the next few times Mags and the X-Men tussled (X-Men #1-3, Fatal Attractions, ect)
