X-Men - Part 5

Waitaminute ... isn't All-New Marvel NOW! relaunching series, not unlaunching old series..?

The folks at Marvel have a plan for what they calculate will be the 300th issue of X-Men: Legacy. In March, 2014 the publisher will offer a #300 issue that takes a numerical break from the titles current numbering convention.

Legacy began life in 1991 as the much-remembered (and ordered) X-Men by Chris Claremont and Jim Lee, became New X-Men in 2001 under Grant Morrison and Frank Quitely, went back to just X-Men in 2004, and then finally morphed into X-Men: Legacy with issue #208 in 2008.

The title then relaunched with a new #1 as part of Marvel's 'All-New Marvel NOW!' initiative last year.

Marvel plans to recognize just the history of Legacy since the '08 title change in this special, with stories by each of the series writers - Mike Carey, Christos Gage and current writer Si Spurrier, each likely using the cast from their runs in their stories.

We'll learn more later this week with the release of Marvel's March, 2014 solicitations, but until then check out this first look at the cover.

That's so annoying.

But yay! for Husk and Chamber leaning in on that cover :)

Don't they want to wait for a book to actually disappear to at least give the ILLUSION that it's been canceled before they announce it coming back? I'm so sick of this.

You know what sucks about this? Uncanny X-Men 300 was my first ever X-Men comic and got me hooked on the franchise. Ever since then, I have always eagerly anticipated the day when X-Men reached that number because I can then imagine the amount of time the people who were X-Men fans when I started and apply it to myself for the second series (confusing, I know). I was highly annoyed when they relaunched X-Men just shy of 300 for that reason, but now that it's coming out, I likely won't get it. I don't care about past stories, and I don't buy the current title. Add that to the fact that it'll likely be overpriced, and there's no reason for me to get it.

So an issue that I've literally been looking forward to for about 17 years is likely going to get a pass because of Marvel's relaunching and pricing.

Didn't you know Xzibit is now Editor in chief at Marvel comics.

"Hey, we heard you like issue one comics so we made all your comics issue ones!"

Loa! :atp:

Husk has been in WaTXM up until a month or 2 ago. Horrible characterization, but she was there.

I assume she's still around. Last I saw her she was recovering in the infirmary right before the Battle of the Atom crossover. She was heavily involved in the Hellfire Academy arc.

It's cool that Indra is on the cover. I always thought he was cool, but he's just another student lost in the crowd.

I hate that they jumped back and brought Quentin Quire and Glob Herman back, skipping over the entire New X-Men generation. Technically, he's still the same generation as them, but he just featured before them.

Heh, funny. I remember being really annoyed when Marvel started focusing on the New Mutants/New X-Men group when the previous group of Morrison's students were ignored after he left. I wanted a book with Beak, Quentin, Glob, Redneck, Dummy, etc.

All those characters were created around he same time. New Mutants v2 was ongoing during the New X-men run. Different sets of students being featured in different books at the same time. For what its worth, I think Quentin is more interesting than most of the New X-men kids. It would have been a mistake to just drop him forgot and Im glad they brought him back. The guy was put out of commission for years and only in recent history started getting utilized again. He deserves it

Yeah, I know that they were running simultaneously. But New Mutants started in the latter half of Morrison's run, and they were all new kids. While reading it, THAT'S when I was frustrated that Morrison's kids weren't getting the focus. Then when Morrison left, Dust was the only one to make the transition from Morrison's run to Academy X. Honestly, I was only mediocre enjoying New Mutants. Academy X was pretty good, but it wasn't until it turned into New X-Men that I grew to love it. I think I just really liked that grouping of students better.

And yeah, I completely agree that Quentin went far too long on hiatus. He was the main one that I wanted returned after Morrison's run (well, him and Beak). I'm cool with him being there. I just wish they'd grab 2 or 3 of the New X-Men generation to merge in with the rest. I feel like Anole and Rockslide would fit in smoothly. And Hellion would be a kick going up against Quentin and Kid Gladiator in the attitude department.

Quentin is definitely one of the better X-kids in the X books of recent. I'm glad the new WaTXM is changing and focusing on a smaller group of students instead of a huge ensemble cast like before. This, hopefully, will lead to better character development and stories because the Hellfire arc was okay and the Frankenstein kid arc was just blah.
I'm loving the main X books right now (WaTXM, ANXM, UXM and AXM).

Anyone else really enjoying the new X-Men Legacy series with Legion? It's easily my favorite series from Marvel right now. I also think it's cute him and Blindfold are dating. It's really hard to write a character that can literally destroy the planet if he loses control but they do it very well and with all his rampant personalities it makes for an interesting view in his head.

I think the better question is I anyone else is actually reading it. To that I respond no

Sales are bad for it? That's a shame. I find the most of Marvels stuff to be pretty meh these days. They say it'll go to issue 25 and that'll make it #300 for the title.

Last month issues 19 and 20 ranked 117 and 119 respectively with about 19K sold

Ah well. They say it's finished at #25 unless something big happens so either way it's kaput. I'm just hoping they keep Legion around. I've always liked the character, when he's not in a coma for years at a time anyway.

Legion is great. A series on him is surprising bland though.

I know, it's just him wandering around and basically talking to himself while getting in some fights. I still like it though.

Heh... I was roaming around other forums because I'm bored and found this gem of a post.

It's a very fun but accurate account of Battle of the Atom.

Can you send me your copy of BotA because mine was sheer garbage. Literally ten issues of the same go in circles argument. Followed by nonsense fighting between two sides that agreed the 05 need to go back immediately until future X-Men showed up and told them that was a good idea. Then we find out wait no that's the new Brotherhood and that founding members of the X-Men hate humanity now because magic dragons killed president Dazzler huh? How exactly did normal humanity summon dragons to kill mutants? Who cares we got much more important things to do like having the same argument for five more issues that we had the last five issues. Oh and yea sending the 05 back is going to stop Dazzler from running for President or humans from killing her with magic dragons. Why is that? Never mind shield just dropped standard sized bombs that turn into 100 ft Sentinels. Oh and future Jean killed herself to prove she likes to die I guess? Oh and the 05 can't go back in time because we don't know why but now we have an excuse for smart characters to want to risk all of existence because these 15 and 16 year olds should be able to do what they want. Forget that society wouldn't trust their judgment to run a Orange Jullius in the mall let alone make a decision that effects every living creature in the entire universe.

That's likely the most concise and properly explained version you'll find anywhere.
