X3: Bomb or not?

P.S. I really hated this movie but it was a hit and justified spin-offs, but I doubt sequels. The ballooning budgets to outdo each other made sure of that.

And no it was not better than X1, simply because X1 gave its characters' depth and time to breathe in their emotions and feelings and the climax was actually suspensful and Magneto was menacing and not comic relief.

I'd also argue that while more people wanted to see it and were more impressed by the marketing campaign than they were for SR, SR generally was more liked as a film and has better WOM because it dropped 58% instead of close to 70% which shows a gnereal distaste for the film which SR didn't suffer (though being above 55% shows nothing exceptional in the word of mouth though.

X3 was better than X1. And obviously people liked it better then Superman Returns which will be lucky to make 190 million.

I agree with you. This movie was a damn good movie. I don't care what anyone else says. People are just mad at the running time of the movie. But regardless of that this movie sold alot and it is a big hit. When it hits on DVD, this movie will be more of a hit, trust me.

I don't know, I liked SR too. I wish that movie would have sold more. When I went to see it on opening day, there was only like 15 other people in the theatre with me, that was real disapointing.

But all in all, X3 was a hit.

X3 was a hit and one of the biggest movies, worldwide, this year.

Meh, who cares? I think you guys pay way too much attention to box office numbers sometimes.

yup.....

the only thing that should matter is if enough money was made for a sequel or not.

Perhaps. The movie is still a steaming pile of **** in terms of writing, directing, editing, cinematography pacing and development.

But hey it has cool special effects so people like it. Whatever.

i respectfully disagree

Maybe, im sure others wont agree. Its just that if you like the movie what do you care how much money the movie makes? I see all these SR people sweating it out because its been doing poorly so far and like if you liked the movie thats all that matters.

the reason for the "sweating it out" is for hopes of a sequel.

Financially, it's a huge success.
As a film, it's barely worth the celluloid it was printed on. Total **** :down

whats the reason for the over exageration?

even the worst of Marvels movies arent THAT^

Well Elektra and Punisher come pretty darn close haha.

I know it is all opinion but X3 was mediocre. It just seems worse because we had two good X-Men movies (the second being great IMO) setting up for a classic finale and what we got was so underwhelming. It didn't help when you kill Cyclops off for no reason, underplay Pheonex and betray Magneto and Wolverine as characters in their basic fundamentals. The sheer disappointment makes it worse. It was on par with FF (mediocre) but after the first two we could've had something big like BB so....

Oh well.

I was just replying to the first post.
X3 was far from great, but it was mostly enjoyable.

X3 is hit domesticly, but it makes low numbers in overseas.

X3 made $230 million domestic and currently has $205 million overseas and it hasn't opened in Japan yet which is good for at least another $20 to $25 million.

It's numbers will almost be exactly a 50/50 split between domestic and overseas.

The only Marvel movie worse than X3 was Fantastic Four. :o

To say that X3 is as good as F4, The Punisher, and Elektra is stupid. X3 is better than all those movies, way better. I'm not saying those other movies suck, I'm just saying that X3 is better.

Would you guys want an X4? Some you guys seem to hate X3, but I wouldn't be surprised if they did give us a whole nother trilogy.

Only if it's done in, like, 5 years with Colossus, Kitty, Angel, and the other kids; don't bring back the heavy hitters. :o

X3 is a hit at the BO. there is no doubt about that.

but how it would be remembered as a film is an entirely different matter altogether.

Xmen 3 was far from being a bomb BUT it was a disappointment! It opened huge but had no legs! It deffinetly made enough money to warrant more sequels. Plus it should do very well on dvd.

Xmen 3 imo sucked, I liked think they could have went out with a much bigger bang.

i want an X4, but i want it as a movie that should correct as much of the shortcomings of the first 3 films, namely focusing on the core characters, make it the closest to the comic books as it profitably can. they've spent enough time on Wolverine, so how about showing Cyclops why he's the leader of the X-Men missions, why Prof X can arguably be the most powerful mutant on the planet, how Storm is more that just a lady with varying hair-dos, spinning around and flying a jet, how Rogue despite the enormous challenges her powers pose on her can turn it around and use them to her full advantage-- how she could potentially be the most powerful mutant in the future. there's so much potential from the core characters that was just ignored. make X4 the last and the best.

Seeing as how two of those characters are dead and one is depowered, I can't really see that happening :o

The movie sucked. Of course people came in flocks to go see it, though, because of the first two from Singer.

The first two from Singer were atrocious, that didn't stop them from being met with a ton of undeserved praise though.

This one was far from great, but still a masterpiece compared to Singer's trash, which wouldn't take much.

And X1, and X2, and Spiderman(one of the worst movies I've ever suffered through in theatres, another abhorrent piece of **** that mainstream audiences can't stop praising)...

X1 gave the characters about as much depth as an empty pool. The characteriztion in Singer's abominations ranges from horrid to just plain non-existent.
There are virtually NO scenes characterizing who Storm, Jean and Cyclops were. They wasted the bulk of the film on Wolverine, and even managed to drive him into the ****ing ground.
Magneto and the Professor are the only things that made X-Men watcheable. X3, flawed as it is, was about a team, not a watered down version of one character while the rest of the team is shoved aside because the hacks behind the movie don't find them important.
SR may be more well liked by audiences, which is more a complement to X3 than anything, since general audiences laud Singer's sorry ass excuses for X films.
As much as you hate X3, I hate Singer and his idea of good X-Men movies 100x more.
X-Men isn't even more entertaining than a ****ing test pattern, let alone X3.
It's amazing how many people just put the blinders on and credit Singer for characterization that clearly isn't there, and that he was barely even attempting to put there because he and his incompetent crew were too busy making horrible Wolverine movies to try making decent X-Men movies.
With SR, he tried, he just failed yet again, one of the VERY few things he's good at. This guy butchers great source material like no other. He's the big budget version of Uwe Boll.
