X3 should have lead to X4 and/or Wolverine IMMEDIATELY

FACT 1: X3 was a huge box office success.
FACT 2: X3 has had huge DVD sales.
FACT 3: They advertised it as a triology and as the "last" X-Men film but still left it wiiiiide open (magneto moves the chess piece, xavier shooting mind bullets across the globe).

Now I know they have plans to make a Wolverine spin off and possibly a Magneto spin off but why the wait? After the amount of money X3 brought in I would think they would bust out the next X phase asap.

I like the idea of a Wolverine movie but why haven't they jumped all over X4 after the amount of profit X3 made? I feel I am in the minority of people who actually enjoyed X3. I really liked it and it has left me thirsty for more.

It has been said before. The X universe is vast. X4 could introduce new X-Men (gambit gambit gambit) along with keeping some of the old. Price tags probably have a lot to do with it but if they are willing to sign Jackman to a spinoff then they should be willing to sign him to X4.

The only other thing I can imagine holding them back other then price tags would be the fan response to X3 but obviously the negativity didn't hurt sales much.

So here are the questions...... why the wait after X3 for X4/Wolverine/Magneto to be put into production (obviously wolverine is a much closer reality then X4) after the monstrous box office/DVD success of X3? Why no immediate plans to even make an X4 despite numbers X3 pulled in and the endless amount of possible characters and storylines?

I say budget.

X3 costed a LOT. The guys at Fox must guess the success of the franchise is mostly due to Wolverine. So, in making a movie featuring only him, they will save at least 30, 40 million with actors, and even more on production, since it's not going to be a huge scale movie like the ensemble ones. And the profit would be, according to their guess, I think, proportionally huge.

I just hope they see Wolverine isn't the only reason why the X-movies were so successful. Time will tell.

I think that, if Wolverine flops, they will greenlit X4 the next day. Problem is: Halle will be 44, 45. Anna will probably not want to come back. Same with Hugh, etc. So they might have to restart the franchise, and it would be too soon for that. It's a tough problem, in my point of view. They are trusting all their shots on Wolverine, and somehow I highly doubt it will pay off (unless it's a magnificent movie, and we have to know the director to assume anything first).

I'd start X4 right now. It's the perfect time, imo. With a smaller budget, and more pre production time. Or then, they will have to wait some years to restart the franchise.

Although, if Wolverine gets good in his way, I guess we will have a Wolverine trilogy, which is a pity.

Wolverine trilogy?

Ugh.
Ugh.
Ugh.

*barfs*

And yeah, I want an X4 too, though I guess will get it in an alternate reality, like the twilight zone.

It must be budget, because I just don't understand how they wouldn't want to make an X4. X3 made loads of cash, and many people want an X4, but like flavio said, I think they're thinking they can have the same success with a cheaper, Wolverine film.

X4 wouldn't have to be entirely expensive. Just make the 'Young X-Men' film be an X4. Get Halle and Hugh back (Halle in a full role as the headmistress, and Hugh as a cameo). Bring Bobby, Kitty, Callisto, Colossus, and Pyro back (some of the actors should already have options). Cast some other 20-something actors for Gambit, Jubilee, Avalanche. Bring Rebecca Romijn back (Mystique - as a teacher at the Xavier School).

You can focus on the younger-X-Men but also continue the story from X1-X3, with a new villian. Keep Phoenix and Cyclops dead, Rogue away (till X5 - with full powers and flight), leave Magneto out (for now), and have Xavier cameo at the end. It could be done for the same (or lesser) price of X3, and you'll still (hopefully) make a profit :D

I'm thinking many of you wouldn't see my X4. Yay or nay? :o:p

Your X4 would be good if you brought back Cyclops, introduced Emma Frost, and the Hellfire Club. Personally I'd like for them to adapt the Astonishing X-Men storyline where Cyclops is in a comatose state, only for him to return as a bigger badass than he is.

I do agree that Jean/Phoenix should stay dead, leave Magneto out, and I'm a bit iffy on Xavier.

Meh.....the X-franchise ended last year....not even Halle calling out to the fans to make a sequels can't change fox's mind.....

In short…

The Last Stand didn’t make the financial leaps that its predecessors did… and it cost a hell of a lot more to make.

A large portion of the familiarized cast is cured or dead, and bringing them back would most likely result in less than stellar storytelling coupled with more than stellar renegotiated contracts. Berry will be costly to bring back and Jackman is dedicated to other projects, including Wolverine’s solo adventures… and Ben Foster and Ellen Page won’t be headlining anything, as audiences aren’t paying to see them. McKellen is great, but bringing Magneto back as the main villain yet again is questionable, and simply tacking on a new villain for a random fourth installment will probably seem fairly week when compared to the Magneto/Xavier dynamic of the deemed “trilogy”… and unfortunately, The Last Stand didn’t really bother to introduce us to any new substantial villains.

Story-wise, someone will actually have to get creative… the Cyclops and Jean dynamic is done. Phoenix is finished. The X-Men won’t be flying off into outer-space anytime soon. It’s doubtful that elements such as Asteroid M or the Savage Land will see the big screen… and I wouldn’t hold my breath waiting for Apocalypse. Trask is plausible, but sentinels are costly, and Fox nixed them the first time around when they actually made sense in the storyline. Why bother including mutant hunting robots after the happily-ever-after ending of The Last Stand? With regards to the source material, the best bet would probably be the Mutant Massacre arc, while introducing the likes of Gambit and Mr. Sinister… and knowing Fox, Gambit will probably be the new Wolverine… blah.

Who knows? I could be wrong. Fox could surprise us all, but I doubt it. I’m looking forward to seeing what the studio and Story have in store for FF2 despite the disappointing first installment. An X-Men 4 is plausible but there are a lot of questionable variables. I just don’t seeing it happening without some major changes. I think they backed X-Men into a corner with the marketing mindset that this would be “the last X-Men movie ever.”

The secret scene with Professer X was the biggest mistake of the film, in my opinion.

If they are gonna be more X-sequels....they should of been an announcement like Sony who said expect Spider-man 4,5 and 6!!!

IMO, Wolverine, Xavier, Jean, Magneto, Mystique, Calisto, Juggs all should stay out. Introduce Gambit, Sinister and Trask, bring back Cyke.

It could revolve around the Sentinels, and then make Sinister somehow linked to them. Sinister could become obssessed with Jean after Alcatraz, and then we find out he's been researching about her and Cyke. He wants to ressurect Jean through cloning, so throughout the movie he tries to get Cyke to his side.

At the same time, Rogue's cure wears off (I've explained 1000 times how and why), Storm has troubles dealihg with the school, Hank tries to help but is too busy with the UN, Kitty discovers new sides on Colossus, Rogue and Bobby find out they should always be just friends, and Rogue is enchanted by Gambit, but refuses to acknowledge it.

The Sentinels are released as a result of both X2 and X3. Hundreds of soldiers died, hundreds of innocent, so we discover Trask has been planning the Sentinels project for a long time, along with Stryker. He finally releases them, and we have a third act with X-men vs Sentinels vs Sinister.

Gambit could be a Sinister henchman who joins the X-men and gets Storm's friendship. He could flip sides all along the movie, and we really didn't know which side he was, until the end.

Yeah, I have a script ready :p And trust me, Sinister could have a convincing link to the Sentinels.

This way, Sentinels only appear on the third act (the rest of the movie deals with the politics behind it), we have both emotional and political role for Storm (through the friendship with Beast and Gambit, and the Sentinelss plot), same ffor Beast, Kitty and Colossus developing together, Rogue becoming a true X-men, no need for some of the most expensive cast members, Cyclops will finally have a development with Sinister, Gambit makes his debut, etc. :p

Its really weird, like you were in my head because thats basically what I thought X4 should be. But don't forget Angel hehe. Also, I think Cyk should start off as a villian, only for the first half of the film.

I think that when Jean "killed" him that he was really just injurer and was sent into the woods from a mix of his optic blast and her telekinetic blast and Sinister found him and studied him (aka in a tube like what he creates his clones in) and he brings him back to health and life but its a twisted Cyk and eventually he turns back good, but at the end we see that Sinister had created a clone from Cyk and somehow Jean, aka Cable but have it be Cable but with the appearance of Nate (X-Man) as I think that character would fit the movie verse better.

Besides all the Cable thing, that's basically what I thought too. Sinister would find him, and take him to his house, pretending to be his friend. To me, Jean would never ressurect, but her coffin does come out at some point. Sinister's intention is exactly what you said, to create a superpowerful clone, but he doesn't achieve his goal in my script. (too many things to happen, since Sentinels take the entire third act)

Oh, and Angel does have a role too: he becomes the main sponsor of the school, and we see more of his playboy side, logically always being nice, and anxiously waiting to become an X-Men, which happens in the second act.

Ohh I didn't mean for the Cable/XMan to be in the movie, just like show him at the VERY end, the clone, kinda finishing...kinda hooked up liek weapon x

I wanted something like this for X4 too! But with Xavier, Emma as the other villain and Nightcrawler returning. This X4 will be an amazing movie, better than the first three, in my opinion. With an important political issue and epic action in the big city finally. I'd love to see this one day. Please Fox, you can do it.
