I was one of those people who wasn't entirely happy with X3.
There were many great deleted scenes on the DVD, so I decided to see what I could make of the movie myself.
I've added some clips to my description below. The quality isn't great, but I just wanted to give you all an impression.

Did anyone else try this before? I remember seeing one where, I forgot who it was, made a re-edit of the movie's first seven minutes. Maybe it would be cool if it could be (re)posted here.

Discription

Up untill Beast's meeting with the President, the movie is left as it was.
After that scene, cut to Jimmy in the laboratory. The scene with Beast is pretty ambigous, we hear "it's viable" en see the word "surpression" in the file, but what are they talking about? The scene of Jimmy in the laboratory adds to that mystery.

After Mystique on the concoy, cut to Beast arriving at Alcatraz.
I thought it would be logical for the Secretary of Mutant Affairs to check out this cure himself before it is made public, instead of after it.
Because we are not supposed to know yet a cure is being developped, I cut out the "Little hard to get to/It's the safest location we could find, that's why we keep the source of the cure here" exchange.

After Beast has met with Jimmy, the movie continues as it did originally.

Clip

In the scene where Magneto addresses his fellow mutants, I made a slight nitpicky change: I reversed the shots of Callisto en Quill. Now Quill reacts to Callisto's gesture, it makes Callisto look a little more like a leader.

After the church scene, cut to Mystiques cure, followed by Scott and Jean at Alkali Lake.
I wanted to "get rid" of these characters right behind each other, because new characters have just been introduced, and new ones will be coming (back). Also, I wanted to see Mystique cured before Angel is about to take it. It adds more suspense to the scene: we've seen what the cure does, en hope Angel realizes in time it is wrong.

The scene in which Beast resigns now follows directly after Angel's escape.

The movie procedes as it did, up untill the battle at Jean's house.
The extended fight on the DVD had some great bits, but ultimately, it didn't add much to the movie. I did like the voices in that other deleted scene, so I rearranged them, and added them in subtly, because the scene is powerful as it is, and I didn't want to take away from that.

That's pretty much the first half, I'll post the rest later.
Discuss, and feel free to give me some feedback.

If it makes you happy, and you can do it to a quality you are happy with, go ahead. I can't view wmv files as they aren't Apple (Mac) compatible, so I can't see what you have done.

I wouldn't mind an extended edition of X3, to insert most of the deleted scenes and make a few trims of cheesy bits, but I hadn't got in mind anything like your total reconstruction. Sounds interesting, but a lot of work! I hope it's worth it in the end.

Thanks Maniac.
Well, it isn't a total reconstruction, just a few scenes in the first half that got moved, but mostly, it's just as you said: the deleted scenes from the DVD put back in.

It's been a lot of work indeed. I've been working on it for almost six months, but most of the time, school and work got in between it.
What I did was just for fun, but I too would be interested in a extended and recut version of X3 from Fox itself.

I wouldn't mind anything that would alleviate the feeling that X3 was an unfinished mess!

Well, FOX is releasing an extended cut of Fantastic Four on June 5. Its supposed to have an additional 40 minutes of dramatic footage added. However, the original DVD was released in 2005. So if we use that as a gauge, we might not see an extended version of X3 for quite some time.

At any rate, I wouldn't hold my breath at this point...FOX will release it when it's most opportune for them a la a parallel release with either X4 or a spin-off film.

Yes, if they release one day an extended cut of X3, it will be in the same year as X4 cinemas release.

The deleted scenes in my opinion really didn't help the finished film -- sure they were nice to see, but most of them were trimmed for good reason. I would like to see that alternate ending with Rogue not giving up her powers reinstated instead of the other one used in the theatrical cut.

I only watched your first clip.

It's not bad, I really like the addition of the Jimmy in the lab clip.

But the Mystique on the prison convoy scene is totally out of place there. It's located where it is in the actual film for a reason; when Magneto says "can you locate one for me?" that's the cue to introduce us, the audience, to Mystique's situation. With that scene earlier, the whole point of that line is lost.

Other than that, no complaints about your edit.

Thanks Nell.
I see your point: going from the chuch scene to Mystique's liberation is a bit too quick, though I think it would be obvious it was Mystique Magneto meant when he said "Could you locate one for me". I also thought that if I put the Jimmy in the lab scene in another place it would be even more out of place, since it's very mysterious. I wanted to keep the connection with the earlier scene when Beast learns of the cure, and sees Jimmy's photo in the file.

I agree that not all scenes add much, mostly because they are extensions of already existing scenes. But, all the deleted scenes with Jean (which I added in) shows a little more struggle between her and her Phoenix persona.
Other scenes show more of the X-Men working as a team: the way the Storm creates a wave scene is editted shows this, as is the Bobby freezes Phat scene.
Another example is Bobby's arc that was lost in the movie with the deleting of the original X-Men boarding the jet and the alternate ending which implied he had become a teacher at the institute.

I think adding the scene with Iceman and Colossus teaming up on Phat would have been really cool

i think they said in the commentary, that they just couldn't get the CG right for that scene in time, (I am sure they touched it up and finished it for the dvd)
if they had more time and got that scene shoot and ready in time, I wouldn't of minded seeing it in movie, i guess

I added that scene to the final battle in my re-edit, MoPlayYa. If you're interested, I'll post a clip of it later. The effects are a bit dodgy I agree, but I too like the little team up, and seeing a bit more of Iceman and Colossus in the final battle doesn't hurt either.

Did they say anything else about deleted scene on the DVD commentary, Spider-Fan83? I have a feeling they cut more than we saw on the DVD.

For those interested, I took the psychic battle clip offline, if you'd still like to see it, just ask.

I wanted to post the rest of the movie today, but yesterday I noticed a few minor mistakes that need fixing first. Here's a discription of the second part, I will put the rest up ASAP:

Reinserting the Beast warning Trask scene didn't work, because it required a lot of restructurig which just didn't work, as well as changing the original scene from a day into a night situation.

I reinserted the original version of te X-Men boarding the jet, because I think it provides a bit of an arc for the younger X-Men, especially Bobby. With this scene reinserted, as well as the new school year alternate ending, you can really see Bobby growing into a full fledged X-Man, and someone who will carry out Xavier's dream.

Clip

The scene of Jean sensing a scared girl is also reinserted. There isn't enough development for Jean/Phoenix, in my opinion. That is why I tried to put back in most of the deleted scenes involving Jean, just like the psychic battle voices, this one and her refusing to help Magneto to help in the final battle. They all show a bit of a struggle between her two personas.

Clip

Magneto asking Jean to help in the battle is also reinserted, and comes instead of Magneto's "That's why the pawns go first"-line. I didn't like the line, neither the implication that Magneto thinks his entire army is expandable.
This version shows Magneto being not just worried about himself, but more as a strategist, and more involved in what is going on in the battle field.

I like it.:hyper: Wish this was in the movie!! :csad:

Thanks, storm-x-fan :yay:

For those interested: I noticed the links in my last post didn't work, so I put the right links into that post.
I'll put up the rest of the editted sequences ASAP.

Very cool, Wide Awake! Many of the deleted scenes should've been left in the film, and your editing proves this

I can't see it :csad:, my computer wont let me open it! Could you upload uit onto youtube or something like that

Thanks, Ant!

I have the video's hosted on a private server. These clips are copyrighted material, so I don't really know if it's ok to put up on YouTube. What are your experiences with uploading material like that? Can I get banned or sued or whatever?

well it sounds risky. leave it. it will be bad if u get punished for committing a guilt which u didnt know was a guilt.

and i sugegst puk-joey to maybe see it from someone else's pC where it can open...

This version of the scene is INFINITELY better than the theaterical version, and should have been in the theatrical version, especially with the amount of it that was used for various television spots and the full trailer. Again, a situation where moments were filmed but unused, when they were clearly more in-character that what ultimately went in the theatrical version. The younger students would want volunteer. Wolverine would NEVER be one to persuade students at their level of training to go on a real mission. He'd reluctantly give in, knowing that he could at least watch their back, but he'd never actively push for them to join, and furthermore wouldn't hit them with a speech like that, as if he was the team leader.

Scenes like this might as well have not been shot at all, as far as I'm concerned. It's one thing to not have more in-character moments in the film, it just adds insult to injury knowing that such moments were film, yet unused.

With this we NEED an extended cut just as we did with FF and DD. Seeing this proves that to me. Come on Fox, what's taking so long?!

where is the clip of that team scene before going to battle?

Edit: sorry, I didn't see it, but now yes.

*sigh*

Gonna have to wait two or more years for a good release that contains an extended cut and good special features.
