The Life and Times of Mary/Marty/Gary Sue

Simply put, a Mary/Marty Sue is a person of unbeilvable good looks, uber power, has the amazing ability to make everyone like/love them, has the power to upturn and refocus the plot on them alone, may have a small but solvable problem to make the audience "relate" to them, and is generally good at everything they do.




And here it is, the test of all test. The Mary Sue Litmus Test. If this get's to be a subject, I am so doing it for those characters. Placing all bets to see who wins. t:

It would be good if people took both test for the character, that way the scores could be more reliable.

I know for a fact that Storm and Jean are hardcore Mary Sue's. Wolverine is, and I'm wondering if he beats Superman and Batman's scores. But I'll take these later, the pen and paper one should be fun. I'm tempted to issue challenges in the character threads, but I'll wait to see if this gets to be its own thread.

Edit: Hmm, when I make this thread, I'll make it specific so that people know to answer it for Movieverse and not comic verse. I reword some of the questions or something.

had good looks, sense of humor, leadership skills....he slices, dices, and essentially does everything, making all the male characters barring beast and nightcrawler look weak

Sorry Darth, but 50 is a god-awful Mary Sue score for one of the test and around 70 for the other, and Jean scored 83 for one and 112 for the second one. Storm hit 46 and 38. That's for comic verse. Didn't bother doing them for movies.

I just read *some* of the questions - will read the whole thing later this weekend - and nearly bust my gut laughing.

And OF COURSE Jean is the most *annoying* Mary-Sue in the x-verse. Just... DUH.

But seriously, that whole 'pulling insane feats A LA facing the Phoenix Force or tapping into the core/force of an alien planet and yet not being an official Omega' thingy Storm has got going on should count for at least 50 points. t:

Anyway, let's discuss the two characters who were treated more worse than paper: Ororo Munroe, and Scott Summers. I would have added Rogue but X3 just seemed to be her worse, she had X1 to herself and X2 was a wee bit reduced.

Scott was basically poop compared to Wolvie. And it pisses me off because they let that hairy creep come before the man Jean loves to her toes. Seriously, Jean didn't give as much affection to Scott as she did to Logan. Scott gets his ass turned to crisp, but all of a sudden Logan can stand his ground against the most powerful cosmis entity in the universe...oh wait, I forgot that was just a tired ass duel personality, not star eatin for you missy ...

So the question is: How could someone develop a Phoenix plot (which wasn't very good), give Kitty/Rogue a love relationship (along with Bobby), and all of that other stuff, but make Ororo's character look like crap?! I seriously don't understand that...AT ALL. Besides most of the good stuff being deleted, Ororo could have kicked ass in all three of these. But instead we get someone who calls mutants "cowards", snaps at Rogue for no apparent reason, and get's absolutely NO LOVE BUDDY?! Kitty just came in the movie and all fo a sudden she's maing out with Bobby while Ororo is stuck doing God knows what.

And seriously, is Ororo a bad name or something? NO. So why are peopel around here calling her by her codename when their in the frickin mansion? Ororo in the comics has a high level of respect, she wouldn;t just stand around and let someone call her Storm when she's washing the dishes. This movie-o this franchise was a dissaster waiting to heppen, and I'm truly embarrased that I'm a fan...seeing as how we got FF2, and the newly released SM3 doing better than they did.
