X3 vs Mortal Kombat Annihilation

Mortal Kombat Annihilation and X3 should not be used in the same sentence. Sure X3 is flawed, but MKA is just...beyond flawed.

hey no more of this negative crap..

:wow: I'm not sure what you mean. You don't want any negative crap but post negative crap to try to prevent negative crap, which makes your crap negative against negative crap, so we're to assume no negative crap can be posted unless it's against negative crap?

MKA wasn't flawed. People just had unrealistic expectations. :yay: :hyper:

I disagree. Annihilation contained several brilliant mythological themes that normal people didn't understand.

Hee. I see what you did there.

See what? It's true.

MKA, I think excelled in many things that MK didn't. Mainly, the action, and reminding me that these are video game characters. I love MK's grounded, realistic version, but this film also showed that you can keep that realistic, grounded version and still have some fun with it.

I enjoy the final battle. Earth's defenders jumping into battle, theme music blaring, lining up across the battlefield from their enemies, with Shao Khan and his generals raised above, looking over the battle field, claiming Raiden and his fighters should "prepare for final battle! ha ha ha!" takes me back to the sega game and nights of intense battle in a way that MK never did. For the first time in this series, we actually got a battle.

The way Jax was portrayed was absolutley spot on, from the writing, to the acting of Lynn Williams. Everything that I love about Jax (and he's my favorite fighter of the MK behind only Johnny Cage) was captured in this film. The fact that they turned him into an original member of the cybornetic enhancements project was a brilliant touch, even if minor. I absolutley loved his little interaction with Sonya in the final battle, about seeking help, and there coming a time when all people must... YOU GET THE POINT! Straight from the game!

Shao I felt was absolutley brilliant. Everything that was established in MK, his feelings towards how humans treat those born into power, and that the humans will only try to eliminate the Outworld as Kung Lao once tried to eliminate Shao Kahn, something he experienced first hand, became justified with the victory in MK. The war had begun in MK, and he has been fighting it from the end of MK up until this point, with all of his terrorist attacks across the globe. Now with this loss, that's the final straw, and he's going to take this war to the human's doorstep, his first move to destroy Raiden in the merged realms.

We see things in this film that fans have been waiting for; Scorpion vs Subzero, Striker (albiet just a mention, but an inclusion none the less), Rain (though not as developed as he should have been, he was still a nice addition), animality, Raiden's woosh thing.

The little elements, like Shao Khan's terrorist threats over the Temple of Light, that are straight from the game and give the characters just that much more.

We had Sheeva, although not how we expected it, I still think was well done for the most part.

The story was more epic. We finally had the war that had been building since MK, and we had the epic personal struggle of Kitanna and Sindel. The final scene of Lou Kang marching up to stop Shao Khan is one of the most powerful sequences in the entire series as far as I'm concerned. And a little fanboy touch, I love how his animality was a dragon during that sequence. First time I saw it, for a second, I thought he'd be JUST a man in suit. But actually seeing his dragon cgi fight was a very nice touch.

There was just so much good about this movie that outweighs the bad. I do admit there is bad, and some of the bad is the worst of the series. But there is so much good as well, that it just outweighs all the bad. The storyline is the best of the two, with the Wrath of Kahn and Raiden's sacrafice. The movie feels like something I could actually play in a videogame, or get out of Mortal Kombat Devastation, more so than MK. Scenes like the fireball battle between Khan and Raiden, and the sequence of Kang marching up towards Khan to save earth, are more epic than anything in the first movie... the only thing that could compare would be scorpion vs Johnny cage from MK 1.

As somebody who was against Kitanna getting a bigger role in this film over adding a character such as Quan chi, I was pleasantly surprised with how they handled her role. Jax, though not used enough, was excellent, and spot on. Bringing in the Lin Kuei, since they are never referred to as the High Order, I consider them the Lin Kuei, was a nice touch.

Thank you for making this thread, me, and hopefully it will stay active, and not get hijacked, because there is plenty of good in MKA that is definatley worth talking about, and definatley worth praise.

The difference is, X-Men: The Last Stand is a very good movie...

Mortal Kombat: Annihilation may be the single worst movie ever made...

HATER!!!!

MKA is a completely underrated masterpiece. Not really, but still... Your X-money The Last Cash-in can't compare to its greatness.
