The Bureau: XCOM Declassified: The Kotaku Review

In an early mission of The Bureau: XCOM Declassified, a deer clattered across the pavement of a wrecked college town's main drag as I took my orders. It paused and looked at me, and I at it. Even before this invasion, that deer's world was under constant threat from death-dealing technology beyond its comprehension. What might it be thinking? I wondered. Am I really any different from these aliens? Read… Today 12:00am

Agent William Carter peeks around a backyard wall, surrounded by the buoyant remains of a scattered birthday party. Straight-faced in an evacuated 1960s suburbia, he is the man who shouts against the alien invasion on America's porch. "Draw their fire!" he tells his two colleagues in arms. "Put a mine there!" And finally, with a bold pose and a deep cache of air in his lungs, he screams the scream that won the war: "DEPLOYING BLOB!"

The Bureau: XCOM Declassified is a game about shooting aliens, coordinating offense under duress and, in some cases, deploying blobs in a tactical fashion. As a dapper CIA agent and pragmatic not-on-MY-watch type, William Carter rejects the lexicon of XCOM, a secret organization that now finds its Cold War paranoia rerouted to deflect "The Outsiders," slender grey men from outer space. Carter's blob is actually a "silacoid," a mercurial pet formed from magnetically bound lumps of inky material. The scientists back at HQ delight in describing its fascinating properties and how they repurposed it from our would-be conquerers, but to Carter it's just a roving tool meant to distract enemies in battle. (The alternative sound bite on this order is "Blob out!" which sounds like an instruction to lie in bed and inhale a gallon of Ben and Jerry's.)

Carter's role in the action itself is to anchor your strategies, and that's what makes The Bureau a more arresting third-person shooter. There's the usual knee-high detritus that serves as cover in firefights, the pop-and-shoot gunplay, the evasive roll – and you've gotta have a melee attack, so Carter gets a huge electric bracelet that looks like it stuck after he punched through a desktop computer.Continue Reading

That's a shame, it looked like the game had turned into something interesting there at the end.

I'm waiting for Giant bomb, EPD.TV/ROTR GT and GI's Reviews since IGN, Gamespot and Destructoid have been sketchy at times. That and kotatku seems to be with Joystiq on it. it's seems this will have mixed reviews.

How can a reviewer's opinion of a game be 'sketchy'?

How can a reviewer's opinion of a game be 'sketchy'?
their sketchy the review's over looks stuff like in the Case of Metro city rampage and use's that very reason to say the game isn't good at all, which the creator of that game told the people of vic's basement and part of the reason IGN keeps heading in that direction of not always to be listened to too often. they said there wasn't an element of a game that was in deed there and other people found it.

half the time alot of the reviews by some certain reviewer's there have had stupid reason's said for getting reviewed lowly. it depends who's reviewing and you have to really check up on what they said if it's true or not. for one thing, oh I'll send you what what said in the pod cast of the creator of metro city rampage after this post In pm. but it's not the first time that's happened.

Gamespot spot has often favored on certain types of game's and their reviews are viewed as iffy often, cause half the time it's cause they have a deal with a certain publisher's and they are afraid they won't be able to have the access they like to have them, if they actually do what they are supposed to do with reviews. but if it's some one like a "dev studio" that isn't overly too powerful in the industry they seem to write certain people off for stupid reasons, just so they don't have deal with the game. in other words their seen to have been bought by certain people in the game industry and have a bia's to score certain ip's higher then others no matter how their made.

And then there's Destructod, wow a lot of Review's from them are just terrible alot of the time ,they have rated alot of cool games low. which is why most of the time I and most people I've taken notice of, don't touch them of source's to be trusted.

I 've taken to the other people that are more independent like Giant bomb, EPD.TV/ROTR.( the latter has been around longer and both can't be said to have been bought off and are trusted ) and then there's GT and GI's(the latter more well known)
