Warframe is coming to Switch, developer Digital Extremes announced. A release date was not announced. Panic Button is handling the port.
The free-to-play online cooperative third-person action game first launched for PC in March 2013, followed by PlayStation 4 in November 2013 and Xbox One in September 2014.

Here is an overview of the game, via its Steam page:

They were called Tenno. Warriors of blade and gun: masters of the Warframe armor. Those that survived the old war were left drifting among the ruins. Now they are needed once more.
The Grineer, with their vast armies, are spreading throughout the solar system. A call echoes across the stars summoning the Tenno to an ancient place. They summon you.
Allow the Lotus to guide you. She has rescued you from your cryostasis chamber and given you a chance to survive. The Grineer will find you; you must be prepared. The Lotus will teach you the ways of the Warframes and the secrets to unlocking their powers.
Come Tenno, you must join the war.

Developed and published Digital Extremes, Warframe is a free-to-play third person sci-fi action game that was initially released for the PlayStation 4 and Windows back in 2013, and was eventually ported to the Xbox One in 2014.

In March of this year, rumours started circulation around the web that Digital Extremes was considering porting Warframe to the Nintendo Switch as they were carefully examining the possibility, although they didn't confirm it by any means. It wasn't until July that the developer officially confirmed that Warframe for the Nintendo Switch was a reality, although the announcement made by Digital Extremes only mentioned that the game was currently in development and didn't provide an official release date.

We also found out that Panic Button, which has become widely known for their fantastic ports of Doom(2016) and Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus, were working on the Nintendo Switch port of Warframe; which were great news for fans of both the Nintendo Switch and Warframe, since Panic Button has yet to disappoint when it comes to porting titles to Nintendo's handheld hybrid console.

Today, Digital Extremes and Panic Button's Warframe has finally released for the Nintendo Switch. Much like other versions of the game, the Nintendo Switch is also getting Warframe as a free-to-play title, so fans of the third-person sci-fi action game can now download it from the Nintendo eShop. With the release of Warframe on the Nintendo Switch, we also get a brand-new, and action-packed trailer that shows-off some of the games' brilliant gameplay that players can now take on-the-go.

Warframe
is a free-to-play third-person sci-fi action game developed and published by Digital Extremes. The game came out for the PlayStation 4 and Microsoft Windows in 2013, getting a port for the Xbox One a year later.

This year, Digital Extremes announced that Warframe would also be coming out for the Nintendo Switch; which was great news for fans of The Big N, but also had people worrying that the game would suffer due to the system's limitations—especially when compared to the other consoles the game had been released for.

With the announcement that Warframe was coming to the Nintendo Switch, Digital Extremes also revealed that the game was being ported by Panic Button; the very same studio that successfully managed to port Bethesda's Doom(2016) and Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus to the Nintendo Switch.

With Panic Button handling the porting of Warframe on the Switch, fans were immediately excited because they knew they would be getting a proper versin running flawlessly on Nintendo's handheld hybrid console.

Today, Digital Foundry has released their full analysis of Warframe on the Nintendo Switch and, without spoiling too much the video, they have nothing but praise for Panic Button, who have managed to deliver a worthy version on Nintendo's platform.

Take a look:

The next Warframe coming to Digital Extremes’ constantly-expanding game is Baruuk, who the developers have described as a “reluctant warrior” and even a “pacifist.” This week, the team gave a demonstration of all of his abilities in a live devstream, and Baruuk looks like he’ll be an interesting Warframe to play both solo and as part of a team.

Baruuk’s abilities are governed by a special resource called Edge. This is built up in combat and by Baruuk using his abilities, and it represents the idea that Baruuk can only be pushed so far before he unleashes his inner lethality.

His first ability is a channelled power called Elude. It functions as a damage-reduction buff, but the on-screen effect is remarkable: Baruuk’s midsection shimmers as if it’s moving or vibrating, or perhaps phasing between adjacent realities. Incoming projectiles pass through Baruuk’s model, and using Elude builds up his Edge meter. Note, however, that Elude only is effective in a cone that extends in front of Baruuk.

His second ability is Sedative, which is a cone-shaped area-of-effect. Baruuk projects runes onto the ground in front of him, and enemies in the area or who enter it gradually slow and fall asleep. Once they’re sleeping, they’re vulnerable to finishing attacks from either Baruuk or his teammates. Sedative will also build Baruuk’s Edge level, depending on the number of enemies caught in its area of effect.

Baruuk’s third ability is called Subdue, and it summons a ring of levitating energy daggers around him. These will disarm enemies they contact and cause a small amount of radial damage. While they’re active they also reduce damage, so keeping as many of them up at once is a good idea. Interestingly, the daggers can be shared with allies – unused charges will jump to teammates, and Baruuk can replenish his supply when he needs to.

For his Ultimate, Baruuk spends his built-up Edge and focuses it into a fist exalted weapon, using melee attacks while sending out powerful runic forces from his strikes. These combo together in a series of heavy punches and kicks, and the effect is kinetic and brutal in a way that fits right into Warframe’s action.

The team explained that not all of Baruuk’s animations are fully complete yet, and they still have to work on some initial balancing. But by the looks of things, he’ll be in the game before too long – the in-game demonstration looked pretty feature-complete. Digital Extremes says he’ll be added with the next update to Fortuna on PC.

Last month, developer Digital Extremes revealed three new frames coming to Warframe, though offered little in terms of actual specifics regarding their abilities. That changed in the latest devstream as we were given a look at Hildryn's abilities along with a sneak peek at Wisp.

Hildryn is unlike other Warframes "in that her shield pool doubles as her energy pool," the developer explained. "Energy pickups will still work – they will increase this pool, AND will remove her shield recharge delay. One final fun thing, her dash will summon small shields."

In the videos below, Digital Extremes walks us through Hildryn's abilities. The first video provides a look at Hildryn's passive Shield Gating as well as her first ability, Balefire, which summons her Balefire Exalted Weapon. The second video features her second ability, Shield Pillage, and her third ability, Haven. Lastly, the third video shows off Aegis Storm, her fourth ability.

Passive: Shield Gating on her base shields, and her on overshields.

First Ability – Balefire: Summons her Balefire Exalted Weapon, a launcher that charges up and deals an energy blast!

Second Ability – Shield Pillage: Sends out a wave that pulses out, and rushes back to Hildryn, stealing some enemy shields and armor as is passes over them. Any allies it passes over as it returns to Hildryn are cleansed of Status Effects, including Hildryn herself! Finally, you can recast the ability to return the wave to you sooner.

Third Ability - Haven: Enemies in range will take damage based on the shields you drain from them. This ability also recharge your Ally’s shields and give them bonus shields in range.

Fourth Ability – Aegis Storm: You can fly up and down using your spacebar and shift. Enemies below you are caught in a CC pillar of energy. The higher up you go, the more damage done to enemies in these pillars, but the smaller the area of effect becomes! You can still use abilities in this mode (pending her Shield Pillage) for extra synergy.

In addition to Hildryn, we were also given another preview of Wisp. Unfortunately, details are still being kept under wraps regarding her abilities, but at least we get to see what she will look like in-game, including her alt helmet and animations.

"She’s the second Warframe with her own floating idle," revealed Digital Extremes. "The animation team is experimenting with creating her own custom sprinting animation, as well as a potential custom movement set. We are still planning on doing work on her cloth details, so she’s not quite finished just yet."

There's still a third frame planned for the game, arriving after Hildryn and Wisp, but it has yet to be formally introduced.

Warframe is a free-to-play action-adventure game currently available on PC, Xbox One, PS4, and Nintendo Switch.
