Yahya Abdul-Mateen II IS Black Manta

Can’t wait to see more of him in the new trailer.

It honestly looks so cool, and so bizarre at the same time. I don't know why I love Black Manta's outfit so much, but I do.

Not to mention his performance as Manta last night when I was watching...Yahya made me sympathize with the character

He was great and I can’t wait to see him get the focus in the sequel.

Should've been mostly cut from movie. Should've kept his intro, but maybe saved his for a teaser in the sequel. Forgot he was in this movie at some parts.

Yahya has a very bright future, he seems like a very nice person and he was really awesome in this movie

Setting him up for the sequel with hopefully him as the primary focus would do just fine

He was the second best part of the movie, behind the world-building, in my opinion. Just a perfect introduction for one of the most BA villains in comics. Years of hearing that the suit wouldn't work in live action and Wan went all in and he looked incredible. Yahya delivered a terrific performance to boot. That montage! :wowe:

It truly was a pitch perfect comics-to-screen translation. Can't wait to see him in the sequel.

Edit:

70 LBS?!

In the suit he was dope as hell, but unfortunately the actor playing him was one of the weaker parts of the movie for me. I don't know if it was the writing or his performance, but I never felt sympathy for his character. I mean when we are introduced to his character him and his father are pretty much stone cold killers. All that being said I would still like to see him come back just because I loved seeing him in action.

I see he is gonna be in Jordan Peele's Us, that looks like it's gonna be a great movie

Black Manta's sequence was amazing. And the cherry on top was hearing him self-proclaim "CALL...ME...BLACK...MANTA!"

Come on. Who didn't love that!

Yes, they are. But Wan made it work. We also got a great line in "I won't tell you how to captain, if you don't tell me how to pirate!" followed by a kill. It just worked. The father-son dynamic was there, and Aquaman made an enemy for life. While we already had one antagonist's arc pre-established, we got to see another unfold in real time. And later we hear Arthur's regret over not saving Manta's father, because Mera could have been hurt as a direct consequence.

I loved those lines.. some think those are cheesy but I think those lines (including Orm's "I am Ocean Master"and Aquaman's
"I am protector of the deep" ) are pure comic booky lines.

This actor is hot af but the character was a complete dud.

One word: Over-acting.

Yahya's performance was too intense at all times - almost like he was trying to mimic Erik Killmonger. I laughed at nearly everything that came out of his mouth and I'm pretty sure that wasn't the intention. Thankfully that costume was a geek's wet dream. Kudos to Wan and Co. for staying faithful to it.
