Young Justice Cartoon - Part 7

Here's a question. What cool rogues are there in other heroes galleries? I hate to admit it, but I'm only really familiar with Supes and Bats rogues. I have always felt other rogues were...kind of lame, but as I get older in my comic appreciation I want to see more of the gallery for other superheroes. I love some Latern's rogues. I also really like Wondy's rogues, but that's about it for me.

What about you?

This a question for everyone who watches this show.

Flash's rogues damn it! They're actually called The Rogues, damn it!

HighFlyingMF has my initial answer to to your question, charl_huntress. While Captain Cold and Abrakadabra have both appeared on the show, their roles have been very minor. Even in "TERRORS", despite Cap. Cold's experience in the comics as leader of "the rogues", it was Mr. Freeze who played a bigger role (and Icicle Sr. of course). But, yes, Superman rogues have also come up a lot - Lex Luthor, Ultra-Humanite, Atomic Skull, Parasite, Neutron, etc. I imagine Professor Zoom's motives - doing evil to force heroes to become better by stopping him - could make for a solid episode. But, yeah, Flash's "rogues" have always been in it for the money so they easily could have been reliable thugs for "The Light".

Considering how much Greg Weisman seems to enjoy themes of mythology, a part of me is surprised to not see more of Wonder Woman's enemies. Granted, there were issues with having her appear outright in season one and maybe he didn't want to use gods like Ares or figures from myth like Circe. And in fairness there are a mix of galleries here. Count Vertigo is a Green Arrow villain, even if that's been misunderstood from prior animation appearances on Batman shows. Technically Vandal Savage is an Alan Scott/Green Lantern villain but has branched out. Queen Bee was a JLI villain. Ocean Master and Black Manta are Aquaman villains. Heck, the Brain and Mallah are Doom Patrol villains.

I suppose I just prefer seeing other galleries besides Batman's especially. Joker, Riddler, Clayface, Bane, Mr. Freeze, Poison Ivy, Blockbuster, Ra's Al Ghul, Black Spider, even Whisper A'Daire...all from Batman, all appearing in the show. Hell, the only Batman villains who have been in film that the show has never used are Penguin, Two-Face, Catwoman, Talia, and Scarecrow.

I always find it amusing that Killer Frost has become so widespread in DC animation. She's a Firestorm villain and Firestorm himself almost never appears.

I do like that some newer DC villains have seen animated debuts here, such as Match or Harm. And the show's take on Vandal Savage is very good. With Deathstroke and possibly Despero coming up, hopefully the reliance on Batman and Superman villains will diminish.

Yeah but you keep harping back to it, like he's missing something because of that.

As I stated before, for action shows it's icing on the cake. And I like my cakes with icing.

On a broader point, typically I expect certain power feats to occur with those with those specific powers. You expect a feat of strength to come from the one with super-strength; a psychic willpower feat from the team psychic, the bad ass action sequences from the powerless action person, and so on. While "COLDHEARTED" and other episodes and shows do showcase speed fine enough when all someone is doing is running, it usually isn't regarded much of a factor in combat. So it can become a peeve when the only time you see anyone utilizing super-speed in battle competently, it is a character where super-speed is one of MANY powers like Superboy or Superman.

Except Sportsmasters "shot" against Wally wasn't definitive. By your same token, Sportsmaster is tougher than Vandal Savage; since SM was shown to be able to anticipate better than Savage was. Hell by that same token Kid Flash is better in combat against Chesire than the others because he's knocked her off her feet the most times in the series thus far. You seem to rarely take context or circumstance in to consideration when making judgements like these.

A debate on whether Sportsmaster is a better fighter than Vandal Savage is an interesting one. Just because Savage is immortal and a brilliant strategist doesn't mean he has to be the greatest fighter on earth. If anything, Savage here is a better fighter here than the Savage who showed up in Bruce Timm productions.

I am aware of mitigating circumstances. In "COLDHEARTED" Vandal Savage wasn't trying to kill Kid-Flash, merely delay him. Allowing him to land some hits played into that, one could argue. Kid-Flash was more liable to stay longer if he seemed he was defeating a notable villain after all.

I wouldn't disagree that Kid-Flash has done better against Cheshire than most other characters. He's usually the only one who's actively fought her besides Red Arrow and Artemis. Still, Sportsmaster took Wally out in "USUAL SUSPECTS".

Bereft and a couple of scenes in Infiltrator (when Artemis is struggling against her sister) say hi.

"BEREFT" is a mixed bag in that regards. Saves Artemis from tank shots, does the obligatory "trip on a rock" scene later on.

Steamroll? Terrors aside, most of his victories over someone required effort on his part or something/someone to assist him. Hell even when he had the patch in Performance, he got defeated by Parasite.

He beats Match in "AGENDAS". I don't mind that Superboy's battles have been challenging. Maybe steamroll wasn't the best word, but it's beyond debate that at least physically, Superboy's the most powerful member of the team; Miss Martian is if one regards psychic powers as physical.

His name in the credits was Scarface, not the puppet though. Personally I thought that was a middle of the road episode. Hell there was also some stuff in that episode that was cut for time. Like Bullock in his high school football days and his Dad chastising him for being a team player.

I liked that episode. Shame about the edits, though, that'd have made it better.

But what was the detriment to his character just because he didn't get it right away? You didn't get to see it sooner? That's not a character flaw, that's a viewer flaw in having a lack of patience.

I think it was a detriment because for almost the entire season Kid-Flash comes off a certain way because the audience hasn't seen that other side of him at all. For most of the season until "COLDHEARTED" Kid-Flash does more talking the talk than walking the walk. Plus, most shows typically cover the basic development of their core cast early on. The "oh, super speed is actually useful" episode shouldn't be in the third leg of the season.

I'll be honest, only she and Beast Boy have really done anything for me, as far as the new characters go. At least so far.

Tim Drake/Robin II is pretty much a cipher as far as character goes.

Lagoon Boy only has being attached to Ms. Martian as far as interesting characterization goes. Though that and him being taken prisoner could go somewhere interesting.

Bumblebee, had a decent buildup last season but her and her boyfriend Mal Duncan haven't left an impression on me. Though Weisman did confirm that he would be taking over the Vox persona from the comics this season.

Batgirl is basically the same as Bumblebee for me. Though I enjoyed her teasing Dick in Beneath, and there might be something interesting between them this season.

The only two I don't really care for are Blue Beetle and Impulse.

Eric Lopez's accent is something I'm finding hard to overcome. As it comes off as pretty grating for me. Considering he did pretty good as Mark Allen in Spectacular Spider-Man makes it even more disappointing.

Impulse is probably my least favorite character in the entire series to date so far; for reasons I've gone over many times. Sorry, the teddy bear "hug me" characterization does nothing for me. Though I'm glad that entire character is an act, and maybe he'll ditch it eventually, but I'm not holding my breath on that.

I don't altogether disagree with you. It seems our haggling is on which characters we'd have edited out. I wasn't overly eager to see Blue Beetle here even though I do like him in the comics, and Impulse I can't stand even if it is an act. I do agree that Robin (Drake) and Lagoon Boy are ciphers. Hence why dumping in so many new characters in a shortened season is rarely ideal.

Who? I saw you bring it up a couple times last season, but I don't remember anyone else bringing it up much, if at all.

You're going to make me dig through a year's worth of posts? It's come up once or twice since last season. Some people (or maybe 1-2) thought "COLDHEARTED" would bring up the legacy aspect.

Thanks for the eagle eye! It has been a long time since a production update - perhaps because everyone was so busy producing!

The "TLDR" version is that all but the final 2 episodes of "YOUNG JUSTICE" Season 2 are "in the can" and thus ready for air whenever CN pleases. That means the next 11 episodes of the season are done. The 19th episode is being edited for air and the season finale is due back from overseas "late this week" to begin the editing process. This naturally includes editing footage, sound mixing, recording retakes and so on. I am not an insider but this likely takes weeks, perhaps months, to complete.

Also mentioned is the video game, on track for 2013.

While it could be possible that CN could air the rest of the season in 2012, I do believe the network may run new episodes until November and then save the rest for winter/spring 2013 around when the game is debuting. From there, who knows. There's been no announcement yet beyond this second season. If CN really wants a third season ready around September thru December 2013, work on it would have to be approved soon.

Bruce Timm himself has said that he can usually edit an entire episode in an afternoon... and the rest all comes pretty quickly when the episode is good.

Plus Greg Wiesman seems like a competent fellow whose scripts and production seem tight so it probably doesn't take him too long.

I'd say before Christmas the show will be wrapped up completely. It's a shame that season 3 is looking more and more unlikely. Unless of course it has been approved and we just haven't heard anything about it.

The long hiatus is not a good sign.

Another thing I noticed CW, which is KTLA for me, recently started airing Justice League in their cartoon block. I have never seen JL on channel 5. I don't know if this is a good sign or a bad sign.

Hey... I'd glady welcome a Greg Weisman Justice League/Superman cartoon in place of Young Justice.

That would soften the blow a bit.

I'm curious that they have started showing this in lieu of YJ. Just seems odd.....

Nah... It's unrelated.

Justice League Unlimited was just a cheap acquisition for The CW/Vortex saturday mornings. And it certainly hits the demographics they are looking for.

Okay. Though, it seems odd because they had access to the show when it first aired.

We've been waiting so ****ing long...

Im not surprised they would pull a stunt like this. Only took almost 2 years to finish season 1.

Wait... where have you heard this?

''Satisfaction'' is set to air on Saturday 29th September. Worlds Finest says that media is coming soon.

Cartoon Network issued an official press release stating the return of new episodes of current DC NATION shows and shorts on Sept. 29th, 2012. That is fairly close to official as one can get. CN THEMSELVES are promoting new episodes on various media websites.

http://www.worldsfinestonline.com/2...s-return-of-dc-nation-with-new-press-release/

Plus, at least two more episodes were "in the can" back in June; CN just sat on them because they usually air the DC NATION shows in blocks of at least 5-6 weeks of new episodes per go.

Bruce Timm himself has said that he can usually edit an entire episode in an afternoon... and the rest all comes pretty quickly when the episode is good.

I imagine different shows have different editing processes. I honestly don't know how long it takes to edit episodes of "YOUNG JUSTICE" but I naturally prefer quality over speed.

I didn't even know Rob Paulsen had a podcast.

Well Bruce Timm's a pro, so he probably hits the quality at a high speed.

World's Finest the first with the logline for the new episode:
Young Justice: Invasion
September 29th, 2012 at 10:30am (ET/PT)

“Satisfaction” – Roy Harper seeks vengeance against the man who ruined his life.

I cannot wait for this show to return.
