Young Justice Cartoon - Part 8

It's beyond sad that arguably one of the best works by DC animated will be ended like this. The last episode I found to be beautiful and the entire series in general is a piece of art. I mean that completely.

Way to go Cartoon Network/Warner. These guys are seriously becoming the next 20th Century Fox (under the Rothman tenure).

Eh I'm done with them too. The only show I was watching on there was Young Justice anyway and I may catch Adult Swim every now and then although I haven't done that in months either.

This is pissing me off really bad. I know there are more important things to be upset about but I really did love this series. It beat out B:TAS for best DC show for me and I absolutely adored B:TAS. Absolutely disgusting the way they go about ending this. That's not the way you treat a great series.

I haven't kept up with YJ, but I'm really hating we're losing GL. Coupled wiht what I believe is Disney getting Clone Wars next season, I'm more or less done with CN. Adventure Time is about all I have left.

While I have no love loss over Cartoon Network, I think some of you guys are being a little melodramatic over this. I think what you can take away from this, you got 46 episodes of a solid serialized DC animation series.

I think the problem is the model for shows like this maybe doesn't work.

I had a brief conversation with Bruce Timm tonight and we talked about why the climate isn't working as well for the superhero shows. Timm basically said he doesn't understand and pointed out when you look at the number one movies right now a lot of them are superhero or comic book movies.

Now some people might not want to hear this, but I think one problem might be is that a show like Young Justice wasn't appealing enough to the kidlets. The toys and the merchandise weren't selling. Maybe the show was too dark and too complex for younger viewers.

The new hit TMNT series while I think it is very good but not great, I see why kids find it visually appealing and entertaining. It has goofy humor mixed in with lots of action.

Ben 10 I think it appeals to kids since you have a main character who is a kid and looks just like them and can transform into basically any type of alien and that's a great concept that kids can dig into.

Maybe these shows are too expensive with all the high quality overseas animation. They take a while and a lot of money to produce. Thundercats with every episode looking so top notch, I imagine the show probably got pretty expensive. Drawn Together I think from what I hear did good ratings for Comedy Central, but according to the producers the episodes being animated in Hong Kong were taking far too long to meet Comedy Central's demand.

So maybe these shows need to find some more cost effective measures to make the animation budgets more manageable and their survival easier. Maybe if they can figure out a way to keep costs down and production quicker it would be easier to stick around.

Well you know, it may not be as fluid in some areas, but My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic is done in Flash, and you'd never guess with the amount of techniques they pull off. Just saying if its the time to animate them, there are options out there.

The toys and the merchandise weren’t selling because the Young Justice toy line sucked, the clothing and accessories line was nonexistent, and they did absolutely nothing to take advantage of the higher end collectors stuff for adult fans. I mean they did not even bother to release the show on Blu-ray. As I see it the failure of the Young Justice "secondary market" brand had nothing to do with the show, it’s quality, or the popularity of the genre. It had everything to do with a piss poor marketing strategy and absolutely no investment in building the consumer base they were just expecting to magically appear.

Seriously, THIS.

It's still kind of hilarious that people think you have to pander and degrade your show to sell (not that TMNT is bad, though). Just have strong advertising, a strong merchandise line-up, and good-quality toys. That's it. Mattel failed to provide so for YJ, so the show suffers for that.

I was almost ready to lose Young Justice (still wanted more though), but I actually hoped Green Lantern would get more than one season.

It isnt a problem of not working because YJs model did work. They were getting very good ratings esp in their time slot compared to a year ago.

Yeah the merch didnt work but as already stated it wasnt that good exactly either and even the comic which was selling decently even got unfairly canned.

I'm not about to claim that this was the greatest DC animated show and cry it's demise, because frankly it was downright messy at times.

But I still loved it and I'm very sad that it's coming to an end. It had beautiful animation, excellent voice actors, engaging storylines and a dedicated (if too far-reaching) crew.

I wanted more episodes, but we knew this was coming for a loooong time. Let's just enjoy the remaining episodes and the videogame.

Can't have one of my favorite modern cartoons to last more than two seasons, TMNT was the only exception
I'll mourn the loss of potential stories

What toys and merchandise?! When's the last time they released any toys? 2010? Like I said in an earlier post: If you can't get a toyline from a show based on superheroes, then you obviously have zero commitment from the outside.

Drawn Together... :barf:

As an animator it's sad to know that the only way shows will exists is if a few of the following needs are met.

-It's animated in some lower cost of living country(outsourced), to save costs.
-It's animated in some new technology which is in some cases is just moving 2d rigs(of the nature of the more cut out flash shows).
-It's a super silly wonky show(everything has it's place, but these shows seem to be the hits these days).
-It's an effective toy commercial(people cry foul when movie adaptations of shows do this).
-It's pre-sold on it's brand name.

The 90's really were a good time to be an older kid. Especially on Saturdays.

I wouldn't put YJ above BTAS, but it sure as hell was up there with Justice League and Earth's Mightiest Heroes. All of them however have their messier points.

And Green Lantern could have been a hell of a lot better, especially when it comes to 3D. I've seen some amazing cgi shows in my day. Reboot being at the top followed by a few of the Transformer shows and this Clone Wars show, followed by that sweet Shadow Raiders show...etc.
Something about GL felt cold and stiff. And jumping in to that corps war stuff may have been a good use of the serial format but it screamed Johns(not my cupa tea). Especially before Sinestro.
(Too many people running around with the exact same power, and not in the star wars way).

Honestly, on top of losing all control of your idea to a development team as well as future profits, is there a point in pitching and selling a show to a network. Just seems they will cancel it in a season and a half.

I mean if Tron was canned....

Darker cartoons about older kids/adults are just not what they're going for now. Everybody is looking for the next Spongebob or Adventure Time, as you can see from all the new shows' premises. Motorcity on Disney was an awesome piece of work that I watched whenever I could.

Regular show is actually a good show IMO and I crack the **ck up when I watch it with my son. However, I will miss YJ and GL....

....who knows Go Teen Titans (lol) and Batman Beware (lol) may actually be good. I remember a whole lot of people hating on GL when they first saw clips of the animation, but alas it grew on people and the story was what mattered. A lot of people didn't like the fact that JL was getting cancelled and that YJ was coming out so soon, but look how that turned out.

Who knows, both of these shows may be pretty good. However, I would still like to keep the former two as well. Also, I assume Clone Wars will be moving to Disney shortly also.

Well guess I will be watching The Hub, Boomerang, MeTV, and NickToons, to see all my favorite action and classic cartoons.

Honestly, I'm not that broken up. I always had a hard time getting into Young Justice.

air bender seems to be doing fine for itself
same with Transformers prime(but that sells toys)

I never really cared for Teen Titans animated series, don't have a reason to care for the new one
Beware the Batman looks like The Batman in CGI

Exactly! Why is it that Adventure Time and Regular Show merchandise is marketed across demographics while shows like Young Justice, and Green Lantern have to rely on toy sales? There's a bunch of Adventure Time and Regular Show stuff for teenagers and young adults like clothing and the like. You would think they'd be smart enough not to put all of their eggs in one basket and have a little more in the book bag and clothing departments...

Because Adventure Time and Regular Show are much more popular with teenagers and adults than Young Justice. Most of Young Justice's periphery demographic are lifelong comic book fans, both Adventure Time and Regular Show are watched by a significantly larger periphery demographic. There's just less of a market.

Wow, Cartoon Network pulled a "Marvel" on their best animated show currently on the channel (besides The Clone Wars). Guess its too hard to ask for good superhero cartoons anymore.

Personally I don't think Young Justice was the best thing Cartoon Network currently had. Nor do I feel that way about Clone Wars.

You guys are completely ignoring that they did have a toyline for this show and it bombed. The line got cancelled.

So if the toys and merch aren't selling than the model doesn't work.

Ratings for these shows are not as important as merchandise sales. The ratings for these shows are marginal anyway being on Cartoon Network.
